I can imagine him saying in his evil mind "well... I guess it's inevitable to make them a couple so I'll do it against my will and, as punishment, I'll make sure you can't fully enjoy it by turning off the light during every kissing scene."
I love this scene and just how sweet and tender Mulder is with Scully in this episode, like when she's giving her statement in court and he looks at her smiling the whole time, trying to convince her that he's fine and she doesn't have to worry. Besides, he's so proud of her because now she talks about aliens and unexplained events as something really legit. He wants Scully to be sure of all the love and admiration he has for her, although she is clearly worried about what's gonna happen to him, but he tries to reassure her, you can see that he's so calm and smiley during Scully's statement but then he looks very serious while all other witnesses testify.
Curses upon the X Files lighting department! I mean seriously, it was just a little kiss on the cheek. I understand that Chris Carter is obviously grossed out by any form of physical intimacy, as evidenced by this entire series and all the movies and revivals. But even a little kiss on the cheek needs to be under veil of darkness?!?! Come on!
So good. I reckon David came up with this (as he's a shipper and prone to coming up with his own ideas,) and Chris Carter only agreed if they had terrible lighting!
mhm an x-files kiss scene wouldn't be complete without pitch black darkness! thanks chris carter!!
I lold. It happened once on Triangle so I thought, oh well, they had to shoot it as a single shot and all. But now this.

He loves her so much ❤️
I always love this. So simple but so sweet. Of course, they had to make the lighting terrible because why not? *rolls eyes*

We either get bad lighting or bad angles, not both. Except for both happening fir a lame handhold in s10 Babylon.
Had to watch this with the brightness on my phone ALL the way up. 😳
Tender Mulder. 💜💜💜💜💜💜
