My father Charles g.NEKIUNAS was a engineer on the Firefighter. I donated my fathers Fire Dept. Helmet to the ship which is now in Mystic Conn. Maritime Museum. I was on the ship{boat} many times as my father a engineer slept. In his bunk located on Port side. He worked a 56hr. Chart. He was also on Gaynor and Mitchell fire boats that were run by reciprocating steam engine which I saw my father run as a test. While at the Warf at Bush Terminal(35th Street Brooklyn. My father last fire was the explosion on Dec.3,1956. The Luckenback pier fire and the explosion caused by cordite-smokeless gun powder invented by the English and stored on the Brooklyn Pier, unknown to NYFD.My dad was mentioned in the article. Marine1 “Miracle on 35th Street,Dec.3,1956…. Tom NEKIUNAS retired NYPD Detective.
Amazing footage! Is it possible for me to use and share this footage on my youtube page? I share footage from all kind of activities on our ocean. Cargo ships in the 1960s till now, oil rigs, fishing vessels, etc. Of course full credit will be given to the owner of the footage. Looking forward to your reply. Kind regards. Thanks!
