  • Day 2 Started bright and early. We had initially planned to get a slow start to recover from the previous day of driving, but with excitement brewing we were both up before our alarms and opted to skip breakfast and head straight for our first destination, Leslie Gulch. The views from the towering rock formations that surrounded us on all sides were breathtaking and awe inspiring.
From Leslie Gulch we headed to the Jordan Craters. The 27 square mile lava flow is one of the most recent volcanic flows in the state of Oregon from the Coffeepot Crater thought to be roughly 3200 years old. Standing on the edge of the crater looking out of the lava flow it's truly mesmerizing to see how the lava ebbed and flowed over the surrounding terrain.
Our final stop for the day was Birch Creek Ranch. Established in the early 1900s the history of this riverside ranch is still evident in the outbuildings, waterwheel and rolling alfalfa fields and it was here we settled in for the night witnessing an truly amazing sunset against the surround rockface and falling asleep to the sound of the frogs on the river bank, and the best part? We had the place entirely to ourselves.
