      @Mike Simpson - The video is bogus, not how mail in voting works. First, you only get a ballot if you are on the registered voter list. In some states, five I believe, it is mailed to you automatically. In mine I have to fill out a form, mail it to the Elections Supervisor who sends me a ballot with a return envelope. I complete the ballot, seal it in the envelope which I must sign and must have noratized if I do not qualify for vote by mail automatically.
      Yes, It is possible to mail a bunch of ballot , but you have to print them and if they don't match the voter registration list they will be discarded and may be referred to law enforcement because each illegal ballot cast is a felony.

      @StoryGordon 4 года назад +2

      @@micahdunham7874 - If you voted it you are a felon. Your supposed to mark it "Refused" or "Moved" and put it in a mail box. I don't know where you live, but government agencies, especially at the county level do not have the resources to micro manage systems. We want low taxes which means they are underfunded.
      If he registered to vote in his new county the voter registration form he completed probably has a place for him to inform his new county where he was registered before.
      Also, the counties I know mark the envelope with a "Do not forward" notice.
      I recently moved here from another state and noted my former address on the form, but they have not informed my former county.
      The question remains, how much voter fraud exists? Very little.

      I participated in my county's 2020 mail in ballot processing. Before the ballot is opened the signature on the ballot envelope is compared to the signature on file to be sure it was a match. It almost always was; the few times it wasn't, those were put aside for further processing (which I was not involved with so I can't speak to what happened then). Sometimes it was simple mistakes: a married couple "John Doe" and "Jane Roe" would accidentally sign each other's ballot envelopes, or someone who was extra-concerned about their security refused to sign the envelope so there was no signature to compare.

    Seriously? Voting by mail? In the Netherlands you HAVE TO show up in person in order to vote. 1 other person can ask you to vote for them, but in that case you have to show the passport of this person at the voting booth. Yes, one can mail in votes from abroad only if they have a good reason, like military or business abroad. Than again our voting rolls or rather register of citizens is kept up to date every year. When you have ballots of people who have moved or died, what happens to these ballots?
    The only way I could see voting by mail could work is to send a copy of your passport or ID-card along with the ballot.

      Heed Jimmy Carter on the Danger of Mail-In Voting ‘Absentee ballots remain the largest source of potential voter fraud.’ By John R. Lott Jr.
      Posted By Ruth King on April 11th, 2020
      ‘Absentee ballots remain the largest source of potential voter fraud.” That quote isn’t from President Trump, who criticized mail-in voting this week after Wisconsin Democrats tried and failed to change an election at the last minute into an exclusively mail-in affair. It’s the conclusion of the bipartisan 2005 report of the Commission on Federal Election Reform, chaired by former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker III.
      Concerns about vote-buying have a long history in the U.S. They helped drive the move to the secret ballot, which U.S. states adopted between 1888 and 1950. Secret ballots made it harder for vote buyers to monitor which candidates sellers actually voted for. Vote-buying had been pervasive; my research with Larry Kenny at the University of Florida has found that voter turnout fell by about 8% to 12% after states adopted the secret ballot.
      You wouldn’t know any of this listening to the media outcry over Mr. Trump’s remarks. “There is a lot of dishonesty going on with mail-in voting,” the president said Tuesday. In response, a CNN “fact check” declares that Mr. Trump “opened a new front in his campaign of lies about voter fraud.” A New York Times headline asserts: “Trump Is Pushing a False Argument on Vote-by-Mail Fraud.” Both claim that voter fraud is essentially nonexistent. The Carter-Baker report found otherwise.
      Intimidation and vote buying were key concerns of the commission: “Citizens who vote at home, at nursing homes, at the workplace, or in church are more susceptible to pressure, overt and subtle, or to intimidation. Vote buying schemes are far more difficult to detect when citizens vote by mail.” The report provides examples, such as the 1997 Miami mayoral election that resulted in 36 arrests for absentee-ballot fraud. The election had to be rerun, and the result was reversed.
      There are more recent cases, too. In 2017 an investigation of a Dallas City Council election found some 700 fraudulent mail-in ballots signed by the same witness using a fake name. The discovery left two council races in limbo, and the fraud was much larger than the vote differential in one of those races. The case resulted in a criminal conviction.
      It is often claimed that impossibly large numbers of people live at the same address. In 2016, 83 registered voters in San Pedro, Calif., received absentee ballots at the same small two-bedroom apartment. Prosecutors rarely pursue this type of case.
      Mail-in voting is a throwback to the dark old days of vote-buying and fraud. Because of this, many countries don’t allow absentee ballots for citizens living in their country, including Norway and Mexico. Americans deserve a more trustworthy system.

    How do you ensure people don't vote multiple times? Like mailing in a ballot and then voting in person? Will your in person ballot require an identification number on the ballot? Can these be matched up quickly on election day or will our elections span weeks during this verification process?

    • @matthewholt6168
      @matthewholt6168 4 года назад +8

      •By matching on personal identifiers
      •See above
      •Not on the booth ballot - if someone tried to vote twice, the in-person ballot would be accepted and the mail-in (with identifier attached) would be rejected
      •This is a good question, and will vary state by state. However the time spent must ultimately be weighed against potential lives lost if we don't fully encourage mail-in voting.
      Also, note that while double voting in a jurisdiction is prevented by these measures, voting in multiple jurisdictions can be tougher to prevent because there's no central voter registry. However some states do audit collaboratively. Relatedly, see www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/voter-list-accuracy.aspx

    In light of the debate and controversy of mail ballots vs in-person ballots, we need both and the important goal is that every vote should be counted correctly. There are many reasons why votes do not get counted correctly, such as mail fraud, USPS mail delivery Failures, failure of registered voters who automatically receive mail ballot not to request a change of address when they move or die, failure of the mail ballot to have a signature or ink entered scanned by the software program and every election has votes due to errors not being able to count votes. First, everyone who can, should vote in person and vote early for better results. If you must or want to vote by mail, be sure your voter registration card address is currently correct, especially if it is mailed automatically for every election. Then, follow it up with your county elections office that it was received and counted correctly or vote by mail and follow it up with in person vote because the in-person vote will supercede the previous vote so that each vote is counted correctly or if you can't vote on election day in person. In the state of New Jersey, there was a state investigation that uncovered votes by mail, but when the registered voters were contacted, replied they never received the mail ballot. Then, there are many failures in USPS mail delivery service in many cities that receive bad mail delivery service all year around. There are many reasons. Many reasons are not stated here. Each voter needs to do their part to ensure their vote is counted correctly.

      What if the pandemic is extreme during that period? In-person only voting is asking for trouble in November. Just give people the option that best suits their situation.

      You’ve been manipulated for political gain. The cruise ship study, the Stanford study, and the University of Southern California study all prove that the numbers and models have all been wrong regarding the virus.
      And let me ask you this. With your logic, are we all supposed to stay locked in our houses indefinitely? November is 7 months away, are you suggesting that we all remain in our homes until then? How do you think people can survive for 7 months without being able to go to work? Why couldn’t people wear masks and gloves to go vote?
      The truth is that the Democrats want mail in voting, so they can cheat because they can’t beat President Trump honestly. Joe Biden is suffering from mental decline; and if that isn’t crystal clear to people yet, the debates will expose that reality. Mail in voting will corrupt our election, so don’t be fooled. 😉

      @@bambiforester2580 I'll wager you're disinterested in having a true discussion about the merits of mail-in voting.
      No, I'm not at all suggesting that society and the economy stay closed until November. Obviously, the failure of small businesses and unemployment are an equally troubling issues that can impact the public, especially the poor and most vulnerable. However, it's not as simple as open everything all at once. A more nuanced approach that weighs risks and gradually re-integrates public gathering is the wisest move. Mail-in voting has a role in protecting the most susceptible, most-ill and most immune compromised. The video points out why mail-in only does not work for areas where mail is unreliable. However, no one should have to die to cast their vote. For all the far right talks about sanctity of life, I wish they would embrace that value now.

      No, Timothy, I’m not disinterested in discussing the topic. You shouldn’t assume. But first, I just want to respond to your idea of opening up the economy slowly. Numerous studies have shown that the models used regarding the virus are wrong. The cruise ship study proved that months ago. At this point, the economy needs to open because the stress of no income is endangering children’s lives as well as their parents. It’s a dire situation for many families. The USC study proves that the infection rate of the virus is more similar to the common cold than a deadly virus that kills millions and millions of people as we’ve been led to believe.
      As far as mail in voting, your very dramatic statement that no one should die to cast their vote comes directly from the Democratic propaganda machine. I don’t know how you can regurgitate that statement with a straight face. So please explain to me how someone is going to die for having to cast a vote? Then we can continue our discussion. Thanks 🙏🏻

      @@bambiforester2580 I'm sure you've seen reports and footage of primary voting this spring. People waiting in line for hours, collected together, with diminished processing and capacity due to ill or absent poll workers. There were also fewer polling locations available to voters. This experience of being cooped up next to other waiting voters is especially dangerous to cancer survivors, people with respiratory illnesses, the elderly, etc. By standing next to other sick (but asymptomatic) people or carriers, at risk people may very well die from the experience. More likely, due to concern for their health, these people may stay away from the polls entirely. Either way, limiting options for these vulnerable people could likely effect the election.
      Also, just because the projected models are incorrect does not mean that the opposite is true. It means we don't have enough information. That should encourage leaders to take time and caution to make thoughtful choices. As well, it's possible that social distancing is having an intended effect. With more than 44,000 people dead already, this is not like the common cold. Those numbers that people cite are often for the year. This has been a few months only.

    I mean you can vote by mail in Canada and it's a really good system! Really easy and convenient! You have both options of voting in person or in by mail. Ther is actually more people that vote because of this because of the convenience!
