- Sundered does next to nothing to explain the difference between upgrading skills and destroying the shards. In this vid, I show what all the skills look like after corrupting/upgrading, and what the alternative passive perks are.
Corrupted Skills / Upgraded
►Shield -- Damage Enemies Shield
►Cannon -- Laser Cannon
►Double Jump to a Glide
►Charge attack -- double charge attack
►Wall Run from bottom -- wall run at any point
►Air Dash --- directional Teleport
►Grappling Hook -- grappling hook with extra dash
Resist / Destroyed Shards
►Rolling on the ground damages enemies
►Melee critical hits extend further and deal extra damage
►Combo attacks deal extra damage
►Downward air attack deals extra damage
►Extra (4th) perk slot
►Triple Jump
►Drastically increase the cannon's damage

killstrike1111 Sorta, that being that “used” to be Eshe is no more. So practically the Trapezohedron is leading the pack while on the inside Eshe is dead.
Taking the player takes that ending.
Yea devs didnt do the best job making both paths equally interesting. Its too bad.
As far as I can tell, Embrace upgrades are mainly about functionality, and Resist ones are about pure stats. It's rather nice that you can pick the Embrace ones to upgrade, unlike Resist which depends on a set number of destroyed crystals. You can pick the better ones, while still getting the 4th perk slot.
The Glide also allows wall-climbing, as the slowfall is enough to preserve the extra height gained from a wall-jump when you land back on the wall. Less use for that when you get corrupted Wall Run and Teleport. I guess my next Neutral run I'll go 5 Resist and corrupt Wall Run with cannon, that should be powerful enough.
actually you can climb without the darkness buff on a wall surface, but it super precise and slow. it takes a little over 60 seconds to go a full screen height and if you mess up even a little you lose a bunch of distance

Thank you! I had no idea you got those extra perks for destroying shards!!! That let me know about the 2 elder shards I was missing before I finished the game!
Do you know if you can get the triple jump and glide? I mean, destroy five shards to get the triple jump and then use another shard to corrupt the double jump ability. Do you know if it works?
Well, for those that still don't know: Yes, you can get both jump upgrades. I asked this on Steam and a dev answered saying that it's possible. It's impossible, though, as stated in this video, to get both cannon upgrades.
100%ed Res on Normal, doing a full Embra go on Hard and if I ever make it through, a neutral Insane run
I'm currently going through an Embrace run on Insane difficulty. It's no joke.
damn! this woulda been nice to know before i both destroyed and upgraded a shard. Guess i gotta start a new file. Is there an achievement for beating on the hardest difficulty?

You messed up the order of destroying shards. Thanks for the video, but the combo upgrade is the 2nd, not the critical attack.

they should combine metroid and sundered into a new game
L. I burned one of the shards thinking it'd gimme some cool fire power...n now I cant take it back -.- never again
I don't know what to pick to corrupt, Atlach-Nacha's Grip or Ghatanothoa's Strength?

I don't why i'm bit annoyed bit because when i downloaded the game it's only keyboard
the dlc has four passive buffs three of which are filled in by getting the three masks. i beat the gong lord but have no idea whats supposed to go in the last empty slot.

I used the shards for better abilities. I play on PS4 and want to get Platin. And 2 Achievements say I must destroy 6 of them. Does that mean I cannot destroy them anymore? Do I have to start a new game then?
How do you get to grappling, spider powers and dash? You never said anything about how to get them
You go to the shrine where You Got them while You have an elder shard

Haha. We have the same issue in each comment section. My door is closed and I've cleared the whole 1st area.
It's a bug that's currently happening to some people. It's being worked on iirc. Best just to create another character for now.
