The great Brian Moore making a mistake there....he said it was Keith Macklin commentating on the Villa-Man Utd game...if it was,it was a fabulous impersonation of Hugh Johns!!
Stumbled across your videos a few months ago and really enjoying looking back in time. Thanks for the memories from a Tottenham fan in New Zealand since 1973
Wretched Spurs performance, the candid talk of 'end of an era' at Spurs by Terry Neill appropriate but it was his job to do something about it.... Some fine goalkeeping by Mark Wallington helping Leicester to get comfortable result, Pat Jennings in form, too. How good is that save by Mervyn Day (00:13) in the Big Match intro through?
Despite looking doomed by this point we somehow managed to stay up that season, tho it only delayed the inevitable. When he stood down at the start of that season bill nicholson recommended spurs offer johnny giles the job as player manager but the spurs board - who were as bad in their own way as the board weve got now - decided to offer the job to ex gooner terry neil for some reason! To be fair to neil he did keep spurs up for a couple of years but as soon as the woolwich job was offered to him he was off, and we went down the next season. The mid 70s was a difficult time to be a spurs supporter - which is about when i started following them lol
Think the idea was to give the job to Danny Banchflower AND Johnny Giles. In their wisdom, the board decided otherwise, their fragile egos unable to deal with someone being directly recommended to them. Bill Nicholson said he felt bad about ultimately ruining Danny and Giles' chances of getting the job but he had simply taken it as a given that the board wanted him to suggest his own successor. The 'dream ticket' may well not have worked out but couldn't have been any worse than having Terry at the wheel...
Within a month Mike England had quit the club and Peters had been sold to Norwich. In his autobiography Martin Chivers claimed both Peters and England suggested to Terry Neill he was completely out of his depth and should quit as manager. So he binned them both
Should be billed as Alfie Conn v Leicester. The rest of the team (Jennings aside) showed nothing. All the stalwarts from the previous era were done by this point (Chivers, Peters, Knowles Kinnear & England) and probably should have been moved on after the 73/74 season. Spurs just survived relegation this season but would succumb two years later in 1977
Now that the current season is drawing to a close hopefully we'll get some more of these gems!

haha funny
Despite the lumpy playing surface what's not to like?
Alfie Conn was some player for sure...
Possibly the only opportunity to spot Albert Johanneson (46:05) playing for someone else than Leeds!
Alfie one of the few that played for Rangers & Celtic

Terrible result but Spurs survived relegation by a point beating Leeds 4-2.It was like winning the cup! 😃
Why did we sell Jennings!
seems like a mad decision yeh
Proper footballers not like today's big Jessie's, only two men on the pitch had gloves on, the goalkeepers
Agent Neil...the smirking assassin. 😏
Plus ca change! Spurs mess it up in a key game.
Alfie Conn worst hair style, if you can call it that, ever. Promising career that fell away after Spurs.
