I was recently asked by a non enthusiast friend of many years, "Why do you keep making video and sounds of trains, surely it gets boring as a train is a train". That was easy to answer. For me it's not just a picture or sound, over the decades I have unwittingly made record of so many changes of the railways operations and people themselves I have managed to capture. It's really just a day to day effort when I go out and bring back some record for many to watch way into the future.
MikeRail UHD Volume 10 begins late 2022 with a longer opening HD title shot of 234 at Milson from track level. This follows on from Vol-09 later that day 30163 testing returns to Milson and stops for a light. After a short wait, a toot and friendly wave from the LE and are off at a good clip.
A morning at Milson Junction for some trains in and out of Palmerston North, 234 with two retired Dbr locos in tow to Tauranga, then by road to the Goldfields Vintage Railway. On a second day of Milson morning trains upgraded 30163 led 234 north for it's first revenue train.
Bunnythorpe dip, one is 252 headed for Karioi with lots of compression. This one appears to be almost swallowed up by rank vegetation, the second train is Ef led 391T taken low down from an unattended camera close to the tracks. Making the most of Ef activity prior to the January washouts up the trunk another 391T rolls by.
Concluding 2022 is a sequence at Palmerston North station starting at 5am. This is the set up of Capital Connection 1203 near to the longest day. This segment is a quite lengthy representation of process and departure of the current loco and cars. Even at the longest day period of the year with 1.5 hours of day saving time the 6:15am departure is only just into full daylight. ------------------------------------------------------------------
2023, the first train filmed was B-66 Capital Connection cars transfer back to Palmerston North after a good clean up and servicing over the holiday break. Had to fight with the wind on the Longburn-Rongotea overbridge but the sight and sound worked out okay, then a quick run to the station to see the end of the passenger stock being parked up for service early the next morning.
Maewa and another quite lengthy sequence involving 391T (with Ef class back in work) which crosses the Northern Explorer, and finally for my day out the departure of a heavy 234 with the pair of DL locomotives heard on the wind from south of Feilding and finally powering by with their long heavy train for Auckland.
To finish off this video I have included a trip to Makirikiri Rd 1km south of Marton I hoped to try some wide angle shots of two trains speeding by in the countryside. None of my pre planning worked out, but I do like the different technique used and as always the digital sound was great.
This volume is made from 97,076 pictures to be played at 25/sec. Thanks for watching and if you enjoyed this video please click the "like" and "subscribe" buttons..... For Further information email me at the address in the end credits. Regards Mike
