Peter Survives Heart Failure at Memorial, Receives a Second Chance

Peter came to the ER at Memorial Regional Hospital with an elevated heart rate. During an MRI, he went into cardiac arrest.
Priyanka Gosain, MD, advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist, and the Memorial Cardiac and Vascular Institute team went into action.
Peter was placed on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a mechanical process to take over the work for his heart and lungs while his heart received the medicine it needed.
Peter gradually improved, and the actions of Memorial’s heart failure specialists helped him avoid a heart transplant.
