I think I'm walking on the right path but I dont think I'm weighed down by guilt like this, dont get me wrong I'm often frustrated by my sin especially when it is one that I know I could of easily avoided but at the same time I feel so safe and secure in Gods love and mercy that I know that I can get up and try again as many times as I need to inorder to get it right but at the same time I do my best to make sure I dont use it as an excuse to live in sin if anyones got some insight if this is wrong I'd appreciate the chat
Hi brother, I would point you to Matthew 5:4, “blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (NIV). In essence, those who mourn over their own sin will be blessed and comforted, which is in line with this passage. There are also parallels with the rest of the beatitudes and this chapter, particularly Psalms 38:6. I agree with you in a sense that there should not be a sense of lingering in guilt for an excessive period. However, I would be careful not to overlook the importance of fully feeling and acknowledging the guilt of our sins as part of the mourning process. We are continually being Sanctified through Christ’s sacrifice for us, so there is no need to linger in the guilt of our sin but we are blessed when we mourn over our sins. Matthew 16:24 - Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. And to take up our cross would be to experience the weight and guilt of our sins before giving them to Christ in repentance and gratitude. Hope this helps and if anyone else has any other insights, affirmations or corrections please add to this thread!
@DarrenChaiMD while I agree with your points the problem I'm having right now is that I'm not feeling the guilt I do when I severely mess up or go back to something that me and God had gotten past but in my day to day like God is trying to help me not complain I don't feel the guilt of messing up in general if I complain I'm frustrated when I notice and ask God for forgiveness but when I do I usually feel like He is encouraging me saying usually that I've come so far from even a month ago and to keep on working on it
I don’t think we should want to feel guilty. I think guilt is of the enemy. I think it can weigh Christians down too much and misconstrue their understandings of the gospel. I think hatred for sin is where we should be with it. Why should we feel guilty if there are no charges against us? If we feel guilt, then we aren’t trusting what has been done on the cross. I think our remorse needs to be turned to hatred for that which God hates. Guilt is not of God. I’m not trying to negatively criticize, I’m just sharing my own opinion on the issue.
