Thanks for the content! Been on the Reed train since the bowl game. You can tell from the broadcast the team was way more hyped and engaged with Reed. Collin Kleins offenses have ALWAYS had QBs who can run.
I’ve been watching college football for over 50 years. I love your podcast. Reasoned judgment…specific play breakdown, fundamental analysis. Yes, Marcel won the job. A QB that offer multiple options and opens up the playbook IS THE ANSWER. Conner is a pro style offense QB that needs elite receivers around him. The Aggies don’t have that this season.
@@kg7100 ainias was good not great. lol at the wuss Evan Stewart who was outplayed by walker. Moose can barely stay on the field for whatever reason so yes our wr core was not “good” for sec ball. Compare our guys to bama, Tennessee, ole miss, Texas, lsu, mizzou, Ou, maybe Georgia. We are not at that level
He also shows signs of Kevin Murray when I was there. He can scramble and throw on the run. Wigman is slow and can't run fast and make quick moves in my opinion. I have no confidence in him.
We now have evidence that Connor is injury prone. There is a reason why he won the starting nod twice though, but sit him BG and if hes healthy by the Arky game, put his QB1 status on the line for a half of play. ND game was awful, but as a first game as an entire offense, Reed would've had the same struggles. Too many pre-snap issues with the WRs early this season tells that. They should not have abandoned the run and force the pass game late in the 4th, which led to Connors mistakes.
I am a Connor fan, but what we're told about his struggles this season doesn't add up. His accuracy vs ND was way off from the very start of the game, preceeding his injury. Post injury against McNeese he looked better, not 100 % but better . If he'd played like that in game 1, the Ags probably win. ND would have had to respect the pass and not crowd the line. You have to love what we saw from Marcel last weekend. As you pointed out, he seems to be a great fit in this offense. A qb in motion makes the ol's job easier. Seems like Marcel deserves a shot.
I hadn’t heard anyone blame his inaccuracy on the shoulder injury. He said he just wasn’t getting his feet set, even though the OL kept the pocket clean.
I’d like to play Devils Advocate here. We do need to remember than the coaches have seen both of the guys play all spring and summer. I think Conner could still be the guy too. Klein probably had different packages or even more simple packages for Reed that made his job easier. Florida defense wasn’t sound either so either QB could’ve had a great game. I think our OL did a much better job protecting and opening up the run game. Rueben Fatheree is back at RT and he was dominating every snap he took. I think either QB can do well if we have a strong run game.
Reed is very talented. People will argue that a QB can't/shouldn't lose his starting position due to injury, but I just think we've seen enough to consider Weigman injury prone. On top of that, the offense flowed better with Reed at QB. More deep passes, more RPOs, more confidence on the sidelines. I love Weigman as a player, and I want him to be successful. Injuries are a part of the game, and it's really unfortunate how everything went down over the past two years, but I hope he can figure it out, whether that's in College Station or elsewhere.
Marcel Reed the third tale back disguised as a QB and ya gotta establish the run then the pass so Marcel quicker agile should start at lest until Conner heals from that AC joint shoulder injury and that don't heal quick gonna be a while
Sadly enough, according to a few reports, said Weigman did not look his best in Summer/Fall Camp, as Reed and Henderson looked better. However, it makes since that Coaches kept pushing the narrative because of the built up hype around Weigman and guessing probably financial obligations as well. If he wasn’t ready he should not have been pressured as it’s unfair to him, the team and fans. It’s unfortunate to bench 2 other good QBs during a very winnable Notre dame game just to prove that you chose the right QB1, sadly it all backfired! Go ball out again Reed!! And, I hope they put Henderson in as well, who is also a damn good DT QB.
A lot of the reports said Weigman did not look like himself in Spring and Fall. Perhaps he’s just not back to himself yet. But if that’s the case, why push him to start because of a narrative you want to uphold.
I do not think we should be deciding the starting QB based on a game against a Florida team that is apparently very soft defensively. I need to see more before naming a starter. I think Elko is playing smart he will pick the right guy
Conner needs to move on and I love Conner a New system will do wonders for him Marcel is alike Johnny is many ways and perfect for this system Plus Conner is going to be Day to Day the rest of the Season.
All this based off of 2 games against two very unequal defenses and completely ignoring the McNeese game where Conner outplayed Reed with a bum shoulder. Everyone is severely overreacting to Reeds performances vs the two worst Power 4 defenses we’ve played recently.
We have a very avg. WR room. It’s really not that difficult to comprehend that Weigman doesn’t fit the situation as well as Reed does. It’s a paper thin argument about who is more talented. The fact is it’s two QBs with a similar level of talent, but one fits the offense and surrounding talent where the others doesn’t.
How quickly aggies abandon their QB1 conner should be our guy. Reed played great against a HORRIBLE Florida. Conner gives us the best shot against top teams.
Like Conner did against Notre Dame? Did you look at Marcel Reed's stats against Oklahoma state in the Texas Bowl 2023? He has much more upside than Weigman. Opposing teams would much rather play against Connor Weigman than they would against Marcel Reed. Read is much more difficult to scheme against!
Sorry Weigman fans, but if Reed would of played in the ND game, they win. I have so much hope for Weigman, but he was off big time that game and the next. Reed adds another dynamic. Weigman missed 6 easy open passes in the ND game, with 1 of those being a touchdown pass, then preceded to throw the 2 worst interceptions I have seen all from an aggie QB in years. After Reeds performance against OKST last year and then last week, he needs to start this week. Reed looks more confident and natural in this system.
Reed likes to run more than to throw the ball. He is not Johnny Football. Reed cannot throw long ball. OK for short ball but not great. Weigman likes to be injured more than playing.
That’s why new coaching staff should have went with Jaylen Henderson. They are hiding him for some reason. No one can convince me Reed is better. Not after seeing both Henderson and Reed play!
Living in Louisville and having watched Lamar Jackson grow and develop at U of L, Marcel reminds me of him. I think he has so much potential.

We didn’t have it last season either buddy

Yes, but with brains and a much better character. 👍
I loved watching Johnny play, hated listening to him or watching his off field failures

It's Reed QB 1 for me good work
for the record he wasn't a 3 star. He was a 4 star, the #20 QB in the country and the #4 dual threat QB. College Football head coaches son as well.
this aged extremely well. Marcel gotta be QB1 next week. Weigmen is garbo when the lights are the brightest.
