Reed looked like a commander. In control. Decisive. He's our guy if we are seriously trying to make the playoffs.
The A&M players who stayed after Jimbo left are a very special group. Very unselfish, we guys. They'll support each other's success. If this season turns out as expected, they'll be a spot for the Ags in the expanded College Playoffs.

The Ags took care of business. Marcel did a great job filling in for Conner. I think Elko breaking the Road Game losing streak was great for morale. Time to start a new era of football at College Station. They'll be back home against Bowling Green. I'm very looking forward to the game. It's a winnable game for A&M.
This is the same sort of reaction that declared that DJ Lagway was the better Florida QB. Once put against a good D he looked like a freshman.
Declaring Reed the starter now would be dumb. Let the coaches coach and trust Elko until he proves otherwise. So far the results aren't bad.
Lagway did it against a high school team. Reed did it against a team that has 50 blue chips playing. Totally different scenarios.
Reed was seriously impressive. What is interesting about this situation is that hardly anyone is talking about the A&M OL turn around year over year. It is incredible.
You nailed it here and if Reed isn't QB1 going forward it's more to this than winning football games.
Think about it this way, Jimbo (and now Elko) seem to be fixed on Weigman being their guy. He's gotten the lion's share of the practice reps (especially with the 1s), and he's gotten the advantage of preparing for opponents while knowing that he's going to start. But with all of that, he seems to shrink when the opponent has a pulse and/or talent on defense (and a lot of that isn't forced - just look at all of his grossly missed throws against Notre Dame). Marcel waltzed in as a true freshman (and 4th string QB) on snap #2 against Okie State (which has a decent defense), and played great football - possibly the best offense A&M played all year. Now Marcel gets the nod during pre-game warmups against Florida at the swamp (and say what you want about Florida, it's tough to be a young backup QB being surprised with a start at the swamp, against a very talented Florida defense who's playing desperate), and plays amazing football while seemingly ignites A&M's potential on that side of the ball. AT THE VERY LEAST ... the competition for QB1 should be re-opened, and Elko should alternate Reed/Weigman through the Arkansas game before naming the actual starter moving forward.

@@kg7100 And the only other game that he started in 2023, Miami. His management of A&M's offense in the 1st half (before he was injured and out for the season) made Miami's defense look elite ... when Max Johnson took over in the 2nd half, A&M's offense started to produce - but it was already too late.
@@tedskullhammer He didn’t get injured in the Miami game. He threw for 336 yards while getting rocked by Miami front because of the junk Addazio OL we had. Odd game to reference.
@@kg7100 You think Weigman threw for 336 yards by half time @Miami in 2023?? That wasn't the case, you should rewatch that game - maybe you're confusing it with a different game. Yes, the OL was trash - but Max Johnson operated under the same OL in the 2nd half and actually moved the offense. Check out the A&M @ Miami game from 2023

Biggest point left out here is the fact he is healthy and practicing. Reps matter and he is available right now and it's working.
Couldnt agree more. If Reed can do this consistently, we have Johnny 2.0 potential. He is an insanely talented playmaker that has the ability to take over a game. A&M has been waiting for this for 10 years and biggest reason that havent been able to compete for natties. Their defense is gonna be a top 20 in the country. They have the talent to do damage into the CFP. But hold that! Brakes!!! Gotta keep winning one game at a time.
If I’m Elko i don’t know how they don’t start Reed going forward after this game. I was thinking this in the OK State bowl game, Marcel has the best arm talent and ability in that QB room. I wish Conner the best and I hope he gets healthy, but this team is better with Marcel at QB.

Never have been impressed with Weigman, I think Henderson and Reed are more dynamic, especially for Kleins offense! In both of their starts they took over and brought energy to the team! Good job Reed, but I’m def a Henderson fan too.

The OL should get a lot of credit. It has improved dramatically from last year.
Might be a nothing burger but the broadcast would show him with the team seeming to lead conversations so that’s a great sign, he was pumping them up
If you need any indicator on who should be QB1 look how much fun a&m’s sideline had that game and how the team rallied around Reed.
Weigman might be a good QB, but given he is chronically prone to injury, time to build a program around Reed and see where that lands in 2-3years.

I think Weigman has a bigger ceiling than Reed. He showed glimmers of it last year before he got hurt. Since he got hurt last year, he looks extremely shaky and unsure in the pocket.
Reed might not have as high of a ceiling as Weigman but he looks in command of the position when he's in there. He definitely opens up way for options with his running abilities. Those running abilities play into Collin Klein's playbook more favorably.
Maybe. Also though we saw Weigman in bigger games not go so well. Miami and now ND. Pressure changes everything. Some thrive and some fold.

Im not expecting him to take over as the starter but i think after this performance, if you are Elko, you feel like maybe sitting Connor again against Bowling Green to really let his shoulder heal before starting the rest of your SEC schedule
Bowling Green is a good opponent. I hope they don’t over look them this week

My biggest surprise of the game was the combination of Moose and Allen. No need for the long ball when you have these two tearing it up.
That’s whenever Moose decides to show up. That ain’t on either QB. Moose just disappears into a dark fantasy world and then suddenly reappears

Reed looked great against a dumpster fire of a team. He is not ready to take on quality teams. Against quality defensive teams he will be doing nothing but dancing in the backfield before being crushed. Reed needs one more year while getting a quarter of experience here, a half against a FCS team.

He's way too skinny. He won't be able to take hits from teams like bama. Feed that guy some steaks!
he wont have to take hits if he is fast. and he is. That said, I still like Weigman alot. I'm not 100% sold on Reed yet, I would like to see reed play against another team to see if he can replicate that success.

he's not going to play the rest of the year. If he is it'll be somewhere else and I wouldn't bet on it.
