  • Sugar Bowl 2008 (New Orleans, LA) - January 1, 2008
University of Hawaii Warriors vs. Georgia Bulldogs
At the end of the game, preparations were being made on the field to award Georgia the Sugar Bowl trophy. I didn't realize what was happening until it was too late...Hawaii started singing "Hawaii Pono'i" while Georgia was celebrating on the field and in the stands. I quickly grabbed my camera and started recording. When Hawaii fans started singing, the rest of the stadium seemed to quiet down. I think Georgia's fans didn't know what was going on...they didn't have a way to unite themselves...we had our state anthem and sang proudly.
The Warriors didn't win the battle, they won the war! The Hawaii fans were passionate and at the end, no matter what, Hawaii came together in song. This was truly a chicken-skin moment and one I will remember for the rest of my life.
As a UH alumna and a local girl from Hawaii who no longer lives in Hawaii, being a part of this chicken skin moment made me feel proud to be Hawaiian - actually, I'm ALWAYS proud to be Hawaiian! For me, this was the highlight of my Sugar Bowl experience. It was totally worth the effort to get there...
The Hawaii Warriors have nothing to feel bad about, they are champions! They opened the door of possibilities for Hawaii and united a state. They did more for Hawaii than anything in recent history...even my new "mainland" friends got behind Hawaii.
The quality of the video isn't great but listen to song...the game was magical. Imua Hawaii!!

Just an FYI... Iolani Palace had electricity before the White House. Big advancement for people living in huts, running around in malos with spears huh?

I understand. I was defending the video poster's statement that Georgia had no way to unite after the game. I wasn't at this particular game, but I know (and you know if your cousin went here) that UGA football is full of tradition, probably moreso than 90% of other programs out there. And Georgia is a proud state. So be careful what you say. I didn't make any negative comments toward Hawai'i.

No way for Georgia to unite? The school itself is almost 225 years old. There's plenty of tradition, and it shows in the game. Come to a UGA home game; I guarantee you've never seen anything like it.
Having school/state pride is not exclusive to Hawai'i by any means. It's been happening here longer than you've been a state!

Bro, Hawaii has been around much longer than the US. It was the Kingdom of Hawaii, not a state. I'm just letting you know...now don't please leave the "we conquered you" routine alone. The history on this is more than the text book that you learned from can even come close to explaining!!! Big ups to UGA...I have a cousin that is an alumnus of that school!!!

Not to be mean and bicker on the internet, but roundabout when we were becoming the first state-chartered university, your state was finally coming out of the dark ages with spears and such. Be proud of your state. The problem I have is with people supporting HAWAI'I FOOTBALL dissing GEORGIA FOOTBALL, or even the U of Hawai'i having anything on UGA. See the distinction? Good luck winning a game now that Colt somehow got drafted and June took off without looking back.

@travismpsu12 You know whats even more funny than Colt's NFL career is the fact that even if he did take the money, he's still made more than Colt. Tebow waited till he left college to get paid to, 5 yrs 33 million sounds pretty nice.

I understand what you were saying. Just don't compare the pride of UGA to Hawaii being a state. The pride of the Hawaiian people goes a lot longer than 225 years. I understand all the traditions of the SEC and its schools. But, all Hawaii really has is UH football. I too never said anything negative about UGA football. Just making an observation on your comment.

Racism is unfair discrimination. I gave a fact. The first recorded Western contact with any Hawaiian island was in 1778, 7 years before the University of Georgia was founded. How am I being unfair?

okay Ashley Flowery...You were not Superior in every way...Dont be that cocky....The main reason why yall dominated was the defense...especially the defensive line...I dont care if YOU ARE GEROGIA...That does not matter...Hawaii could have still beat Gerogia...Gerogia had a better day...They were more at home being that the game was in Louisiana...Hawaii is an Ocean away...So dont be cocky because yall are lucky you didnt get USC because USC would have whooped that ass

@h9stjarr Good point, while we're at it, we should educate Americans about the effect of the hawaiian occupation of Las Vegas. You people are really screwing that place up.

I didnt say anything about the south. The south doesn't know anything about real football anyway. Spread offenses, florida's wierd offense, offenses based on speed. That's not what football was made for. it was about strength and toughness. the ivy league (north) is where football started.

People can talk all they want but they'll still pay thousands of dollars just to come experience what we have out here for free. Besides i never seem moms of these shit talkers on the field during the game. And if you asked if I was? I actually got to play against Georgia's great QB OL and RB. Where were you? That's right on RUclips living out your dreams. #warriors4life

@travismpsu12 Funny I had the same experience with hawaiians when they came to Gainesville for the UF/UH game. Talk shit to us whites when they outnumber us 6-1, yet in Gainesville they didn't say shit. For someone who purposely misspells rite (right) and starts off sentences with lower case letters really shouldn't call anyone ignorant. Secondly, how is Colt doing up there in DC? Is he even in the NFL anymore? Guess being good in the WAC isn't really being good is it?

UH got their ass kicked, (crushed, more accurately) period. It goes to show what happens when a little leauge team gets matched up against a real football team. You saw the carnage. SEC footbal is real football. UH 'perfect season' almost ended by a below average PAC-10 team (Washington). They were down 21-0 until the Huskies coach, Ty Willingham 'mysteriously' pulled his QB in early third quarter who was on a roll at the time. Don't let UH play SEC teams, they don't belong there.

haha. what a joke of a team. name one quality team that hawaii beat this year. they had to go into overtime with louisiana tech and beat them by one and the worst team in the sec, my ole miss rebels, shut ltu out 24-0. boise state was down this year. if yall had played their team from last year you would have gotten killed. i respect what hawaii did but georgias defense just demolished that "great offense" hawaii had. dont be upset the sec is just that much better than the wac and everybody
