I've had this C9 about 3 years now and it never worked. It especially didn't like hollow points. I finally drug it out and did what you suggested. WOW!!! it's a new pistol. I even ran the hollow points through it and no problem. Took it to the range today 06/13/2019 and shot 200 rounds of various types. Not one jamb. Thank you for your very detailed video.
I have a Hi-Point C9 that had so many feed issues I was seriously considering junking it (or at least putting it away forever). Several months ago, I followed the instructions in this video on both of my factory mags -- an 8-rounder and a 10-rounder. For a variety of reasons, I didn't get around to giving the gun a good workout until today, and all I can say is THANK YOU for taking the time to make this instructional -- and potentially life-saving -- video. Today, I ran 50 rounds of cheap reloads (from some small shop in the next county) and almost a hundred rounds of TulAmmo and I had only 2 FTE's. Halfway through, I had to take a good look and make sure it was really the same gun that used to choke about 2 or three times each mag, using the SAME AMMO (same batches). Amazing. I finally also learned that this is a darn straight shooter -- especially for a cheap gun, running cheap ammo. I'm no pistol expert, but I've shot several, and this gun was as accurate as any other in my hands. It's a common saying that the gun is more accurate than the shooter -- and that is almost always true; it certainly is true when the gun is a handgun and I am the shooter. Despite my lack of handgun skills, the last thirty rounds I ran off with this C9 were at 30 feet, timed about a second apart, and I was able to chew a nice 2" hole out of the target with only a few stray shots up to several inches apart. The strays were all accounted for by my breathing, shaky grip (too much caffeine?), and rushing to finish -- in short, my inexperience. I once thought it would be foolhardy to count on this gun for home defense, short of it being the only one within reach -- but after my experience today, I would have no qualms about reaching for it if ever I'm in a tight spot. I can hardly wait to put a few hundred more rounds through it to further break it in -- and to run some other ammos (particularly self-defense ammo) through it to see if I can count on that. For now, it's going to get a nice cleaning and I'll keep the mags loaded with FMJ's, since they, at least, seem to feed reliably. It sure is reassuring to know there's another reliable tool in the box, so to speak.
This didn't actually help solve my problem, but it gave me the courage to start on it, and I fixed it successfully. My brand-new factory Hi-Point mag came with a slightly misshapen follower, and it wasn't holding the slide open on the last round. Now it works beautifully, thank you.
As a new Hi Point C9 owner, I just want to say thanks to you for taking the time to make these instructional videos. More than anything they made it so that I have a much better understanding of all aspects of the gun. I have subscribed, and I look forward to watching more quality videos like this one.
I must have gotten lucky as hell. I have owned a C9 for at least 2 years and never had a magazine issue. That includes 2 additional mags I purchased from hipoint after buying the pistol. I have put many rounds through it.
Thanks for the info. I modded a magazine as per your instructions and then took apart a promag for comparison and did some of the adjustments for that one also. The forward lips on the promag were already spread apart from the factory. My HiPoint magazine had some kind of sticky oil in it which I cleaned off and then lightly lubed it. Just a side note, I had my sons Glock 22 and my C9 at the range a few months ago and I had a better shot group with the C9.
JD , Thank You for the info an time you are putting forth to assist an inform anyone with a Hi Point , I have a Buddy with the C9 same issues rounds nose diving , I followed your steps an still the first 2 rounds kept wanting to nose dive , I loaded a Mag Racked it with the palm of my hand like my Ole Uncle Sam had taught me , The first round was sitting nice an high in the mag , I inserted it into the frame with the Upper Slide removed as I had polished the feed ramp as well ,,, an sure enough the first round was now sitting low again , I took a wooden dowel like 1/4 inch an pushed on the back of the round an it would further drop down almost below the feed ramp ,, I removed the mag an removed 2 rounds reinserted the mag once again this time the round stayed riding high in the mag pointing up to the feed ramp an would slid easily into the chamber using the wooden dowel to push it ,,,, So I removed the mag once again spread the ears on the mag a bit more , it works great now ,
I looked at a video about the hi point c9 10rd mg and they complained about the round pointing downward causing the round not to load and here I find a video to correct that problem. Great video
Sharing this here and other vids: this fix does work, but if you get a HP carbine DON'T do this on the carbine mags. The feed angle is flatter in the carbine so the lips need to stay narrow to keep the nose down. Great vid for the C9 mag tho, works like a charm.
I have a good friend that did 2 in Asscrackistan that is a certified gunsmith now, but does things the way you do and is free with his info. I learn a lot from him and more from you so keep it up man. Thanks.
Cool deal. I use to work for a gunsmith shop. But after 2 1/2 years we had to close the door's. So i decide to start help guy's with there Hi-point. After watching a lot of videos on them and realizing no one seemed to know what they were talking about. And passing along that information, and useless information.
I have done this procedure 3 times 1st was my 995 carbine all 3 mags have had no issues. Second a friends C-9 it runs hot now the 3rd was for profit made $25 for about 15 minutes work another associate was going to junk his because of the feeding issues I told him I could make it run for $25 was going to hit him up $25 a mag but hell I got a heart. Walked him through the process I did to both his mags he ran them came back and handed me $25.
Well I went ahead and bought a C9 . I did the tune up on the mag and polished the ramp and took out the spring that keeps the pistol from firing without a mag. I am not disappointed. Actually I have an M9 and thinking of a Glock 17 but I actually like this little pistol and it is great for the price. Best there is? No way but for the price is is a lot of pistol and I like it. Good little pack or truck gun. I'm satisfied with mine.
Hi-points do like a hotter round as well. If you use +p it will fire even running dirty with less jams. The slide tends to get stuck after a few hundred rounds unless you take it apart and clean it. Also I suggest you just try adjusting the feed lips first before messing with the spring and see if that solves any nose dive problems. It worked for all three of my mags without messing with the spring.
Thanks for your Tip! I have also found that if you will grind down the bump on the top part of the spring, it will help keep the nose of the round from tilting down. The bump acts like a child's see saw. Any down pressure on the back of the round causes the round to pivot down on the front. Try it to see if you agree! Removing the bump does away with the pivot mechanism!
Just bought on used from a pawn shop , was anxious to see what it would due, not a lot of ammo around due to the pandemic , the range I was at had full metal jacket 9 mm rounds from Serbia dropped three magazines thru it and only one empty casing stuck at the end of the last mag , I'll stand behind Hi point , cause I sure as hell ain't standing in front of one ! 💥. 11/21/20.
Thanks for the handy tips! No doubt this can save some guys a lot of headaches. My only Hi Points are two 9mm carbines. I thought I'd read somewhere the carbine basically was just a C9 with a longer barrel&a stock) In any case, when my magazine springs need an adjustment I'll remember (or look this up again since I'm saving it in my iPad under "favorites". 2 carbines& 10 magazines that are 8yrs old...someday something's gotta screw up. Haha
I've never messed with my spring or my feed lips. I have, however, bent the follower about 5 degrees so that it rides straight, in my 10-round factory mags that wouldn't engage the last-shot hold-open. They work fine now. The 8-shot that came with my C9 works fine without any tinkering.
Thank you. The C9 I have came to me through my wife when I married her last year. It jammed so often that I chocked it up as junk. Your mod gives me hope that our C9 can be transformed into a weapon that my wife and I can depend on in time of need. I will report on how my application of your mod turns out.
I saw this video and couldn’t believe people have these feed issues!! I have put a bit more than 1,000 rounds through my original magazine and have had only 4-6 jams barely even an actual ftf no matter what ammo steel, aluminum, whatever case but always using fmj. Anyway I can usually smack her into the chamber when it does jam. Idk if I just got a good gun but I don’t treat her very nice either and she’s running strong. Also in the 1,000 + rounds I cleaned her 1 time. I’m giving her a good cleaning today though and hopefully 1,000 + more rounds will run with no problems too!!!
I purchased a pro mag for the c9. Its seems to have fixed the feeding issues. Gotta make it to the range and test run a good amount of rounds through it.
keep up the good work J. I had one bad Mag out of four did the spring MOD and have had know more problems. think going to order glock 43 springs to have on hand
Thank you for redoing this video, but next time for excellent viewing purposes just tape down some white 8X10 paper for your background; it helps w/camera focusing.
I did this after watching your video and it helped with nose dive and failure to feed. thank you. now it just has problems with the first round. the bullet goes straight into the feed ramp and I have to tap the back of the slide to get it to slide in
Bought 2 995TS Carbines and we have had this exact issue.. Failure to feed after a couple of rounds sometimes even after the 1st round.. Tried different type of ammo hoping it would stop. Yet, still have had no luck.. I will defenetly try this and post my results here.. Thank you for the information
I’ve been fixing lots of these fricken c9s and 45s during this pandemic I’ve already had 4 different guns sent in all high point. (I don’t mind it’s just a hobby I do for free on my off time)
You all know that High point in order to cut down on costs uses the firing pin as and ejector, right. Just keep this in mind, as it would not be an issue except for a jam. If you are trying to clear the gun racking the gun a couple times is standard for jam clearing. I don't know if the clearing action is enough to ignite a primer, but since it uses the firing pin as an ejector, during jam clearing, the firing pin could be making contact with a live primer. Would it cause an unwanted ignition? I don't know. I have never shot my c-9 since I made that discovery
I bought one of these as my first gun from a pawn shop for 119 doll hairs,it was pretty much brand new.the magazine I'll admit before going to the range the bullets would keep facing down...I took eight rounds and the magazine and sat there watching TV just putting the bullets into the magazine and pushing them back out for like two hours..I've yet to have a problem with the bullets facing downward.I think it just needed a good break in but I've heard of this same issue with a lot of people that own these guns
I experimented with a Taurus slim magazine that is single stack and got it to work and it solved all feeding problems. If someone would mass produced a good magazine that solved the feeding issues in the C9 they would make a fortune !
Your absolutely right. Its an aftermarket dream project. They would sell faster than they could make em. For the life of me I cant understand why Hi point still uses those mags. Love the gun but hate tinkering with the junk magazines. Still do though because its a good gun if you sort that out.
Awesome! Thank you! I have 7 mags and I've used 10 different kinds of ammo and it jams every 2-3 rounds. I have the HiPoint 40. I called Iberia Arms and they don't know squat and are not consumer friendly. You would think Iberia would fix this issue but instead would rather charge you more than what the gun is worth just to ship the damn thing to look at it! If Iberia had any loyalty to its own products they would run an ad and swap out these crappy magazines!
Wouldn't annealing(heating it in an oven) a spring just make it less springy? It would definitely make it slightly less brittle I don't think it'd be in danger of snapping from the limited bends you did regardless
I did this just now... I cycled some dummy rounds before I did the mod and experienced 2 nose dives on 2 different cycles. After completing the mod, I cycled through dummy rounds approximately 10 times and experienced 0 nose dives. I haven't actually shot it at the range yet but I feel like it's going to shoot like a Glock this time lol.
Just finished adjusting the spring and front tabs on the magazine as shown and will withhold final judgement for range test. But my initial impressions are that this does make loading the magazine easier ... up until the last round and it just does not want to fit. I can with effort get it in, but am wondering if I should just go to loading 7+1 in this mag rather than 8+1.
Thanks for making a second video, it's easier to see exactly what you did. I'm going to give the full tune a try, up to bending all the loops of the magazine spring. I can't help but think that's the weirdest looking follower I've ever seen, do other guns use a stamping with no sides like that?
This is my first video of yours, Do tou quench the mag and spring in oil, cold water, or some other fluid. This looks like it would work on the carbine magazine.
Hi, I am thinking about buying a 9 and 45 Hi Point ! What would you think ? Would really love your input ! Love your vids !! Keep up the great work you do on RUclips!!
i have cycled no jokes 1000+ rounds and no exaggeration only had a 4 times where it was not pulling the round out other than that its been amazing whats the percentage of 4 malfunctions vs 1000 rounds fired?
I put the follower and spring from another single stack 9mm Taurus and fixed it 100% so why can't high point just make a better magazine ??? Wouldn't take much.
My HP 40 S&w mags have a green plastic ammo feed not metal. However after watching your vid, I just bent the end of the springs down and stretched the entire spring. It now feeds as it should. KISS is always better. KISS=keep it simple stupid
there has to be a something you can do to a lorcin as well but its not that importan , i bought a pt638 for standard price i guess but the mags are almost half the price and i can't find any after market mags that will fit i looking for 58hc the 84 is nicer but the 58 hc something about that 19plus1 sticks in your head like the pmr 30 but you know the round i trust just not the "lightness" is what ill say of the pmr 30 bad ass concept though
9/4/23...I just performed this on two magazines and they are now sitting loaded in the safe...I have medium hope that this might be a good fix...I will update within 30 days...
Okay...at the range last week, one of the magazines seemed to be fixed, but not the other...I go 'huh...?', as I performed the same procedure on both...now I have to think about this, not sure how to go foward...the jam is the round getting stuck at about a 45 degree angle, and when I get the round out at least twice I noted a shallow straight cut on the brass, about in the middle of it...first question: that cut, is that coming off the magazine, the feed ramp, or the bolt...? second question: do I have any clue what the fix might be...? I'm going to run a different ammo next time (shouldn't make a difference, but maybe...?)...feel free to tell me how I'm all wrong about all this stuff...
I have had problem with my 995 carbine. I twist thoes fingers in at the top and then move them, in to grab the bullet. by doing that the shell is forced to not go flat but to point up. While fireing the bullet springs the fingers open and then close on the next round. What do you think?
The only Hi-point you need to open the feed lips on is the C9. The carbine's have more kinetic energy back into the slide and if you open the lips you will get 12:00 jamms. If you're having issues with a carbine just stretch the spring out.
I have a question for you, how long should i leave the mags loaded, I have been told you can swap out the springs for more durable one's then you can leave them loaded for month's on end or you can just leave it one round less, if it takes 8 just leave 7. Just wanted to get a second opinion.
springs are rated by duty cycle.Compress and relax is one cycle.loading and unloading is what wears out a spring.Better quality spring would be higher load tension (stretch the spring) or more duty cycles (better thicker spring steal).
Thanks i will work on my wife Cf380 today but why sale the JCP 40? I have put over 600 rounds though it and i have had only 2 nose dive... As for the Cf380 it will fire 2-3 time's and it will nose dive every time and i got them both new out the box from the gun store... Please let me know and thanks once again for the information
+Inglewood Squirrel I've had two JCP's and have worked on many more. And i can't get them right. But i also get up because of the ammo price. I'm sure if you replaced the Magazine spring with a stiffer one that would probably clear up the issues
Ok thanks for all your feed back and when i get done working on the Cf380 i will post my first video up on RUclips about it and i will make sure to give you a shot out as well... Stay safe and keep the videos coming... Have a nice day
When you replace your old spring with this spring you WILL notice the increased power. Load the magazine as much as you can and let it sit a few days till you can load to maximum capacity. Once you fill to maximum capacity you MUST let them sit for 3 weeks as standard with any new magazine spring replacement.
I've had this C9 about 3 years now and it never worked. It especially didn't like hollow points. I finally drug it out and did what you suggested. WOW!!! it's a new pistol. Can I get the short version
You are a genius my friend, thanks for sharing. Hopefully, HiPoint will make these changes on their factory mags.

I'm no where near your level with this but like I tell everyone, You need anything holler at me.
+Smitty Smith Thanks
Always man. Like minded and all.
asscrackistan...nice! except if you're there.
Genius fixes on c9 hipoint pistol. thank you from wife's pistol cleaner/problem solver!! OG 71 out!
Enjoying the videos on the C9 I recently bought one. I am glad to see there are some simple fixes for known issues.
I polished my feed ramp and watched this video and did my magazines just like this, after many many many rounds my C9 rocks it baby thank you
j Dolton
What did you use to polish the feed ramp?
Feed ramp care/service ? good stuff man! Thanks. SCRATCH THAT...YOUR ALL OVER IT. FOUND YOUR VIDEO COVERING IT. NICELY DONE AGAIN
I have done this procedure 3 times 1st was my 995 carbine all 3 mags have had no issues. Good job man.... It's a great video and I love the real deal family aspect. God bless!
Great video! Just finished doing your instructions and looks to be working great. Thanks J.D.
I did this modification to the clip for my Hi-Point CF 380 and now it works perfectly. Thank you! GREAT VIDEO.
Excellent instruction.
Thank you.
I learned something new.
Had no idea.
I did this fix of his on my c9 and haven't had a problem since I did it don't take long works great started my feed problems right out
Thanks for the feed back. Hope it keeps working. Share the video to anyone that could use it.
Thank-you for the mod Sir. Your advice is well received.

So how did it go?
just ordered mine today. came with 4 mags! You can bet I am going to be experimenting with this :)
I saw this video and couldn’t believe people have these feed issues!! Just did this with a used c9 I got for 100 bucks. Thanks for a badass video!!
Thank you for the fix , just purchased one , heard of this prob in many videos on RUclips , will try it out.
keep up the good work J. I had one bad Mag out of four did the spring MOD and have had know more problems. think going to order glock 43 springs to have on hand
I have over thousand rounds on my Phoenix! Still going strong, no issue yet!
Great video I am definitely going to try this out on my highpoint mags. Hope to see more videos .
You are... ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!
Really liked your video, straight and to the point, so I subscribed.
Thank you for redoing this video, but next time for excellent viewing purposes just tape down some white 8X10 paper for your background; it helps w/camera focusing.
This is a great video. I just bought one and I plan on doing all my clips. Thank you Sir
I did this after watching your video and it helped with nose dive and failure to feed. thank you. now it just has problems with the first round. the bullet goes straight into the feed ramp and I have to tap the back of the slide to get it to slide in
Get a new recoil spring. That should help.
+J. Dalton I'll try that. thanks
Bought 2 995TS Carbines and we have had this exact issue.. Failure to feed after a couple of rounds sometimes even after the 1st round.. Tried different type of ammo hoping it would stop.
Still do though because its a good gun if you sort that out.
thanks for the update bro, I did not tune the spring correctly the first time so this video is much appreciated!
+Oscar Ruelas Your Welcome
ohhhh man!!I think my spring sprung on the cat!! hes2all funky now!!🐯
Thank you. Just bought a C9 and found the magazine hard to load. Will try this and see if it changes things for the better.
Awesome!
Kudos ! Much better video this time around.
I've had one for years and couldn't get it to work right but doing this and polishing the feed ramp did the trick
thanks !! this works well. did it to my new tactical 9mm carbine. Feeds a hell of a lot better.
Wouldn't annealing(heating it in an oven) a spring just make it less springy? It would definitely make it slightly less brittle I don't think it'd be in danger of snapping from the limited bends you did regardless
Just bought hi point 995ts! California version! Picked it up today, can't wait to shoot it!!
Addresses a real problem. Thanks
Do you have a video of you doing their 10 round mag I can figure out to take the spring out of those. Thanks
Pretty sure that is the 10 round mag
No that’s the 8 I have both 👌
I pretty sure he said same process for both that's were I would start
Thank you ! You helped me out so much .
Thanks a lot, the info is very helpful, I will do this to my C9 👍
I got 2 clips with mine one works perfectly 2nd jammed until last 4 rounds I'll be fixing it now
Just got done doing it to mine. Thanks.
Heavy southwestern PA vibes from you
also needed for the Hipoint 995TS 9mm Carbine, same silly failures to feed with the stock 10 rd mag
Great video! Would the Magazines for the Hi-Point .40 cal benefit from this modification as well? Thanks!
Good thing fix , buy it 💯%. W. The top and bottom bent is enough.
Mine works flawless but if it acts up I'll know what to do. Good video.
Wonder if the c9 pistol will take another pistols more reliable mag or spring. Like the 45acp model will accept 1911 mags with a slight mod.
Thanks for making a second video, it's easier to see exactly what you did. I'm going to give the full tune a try, up to bending all the loops of the magazine spring. I can't help but think that's the weirdest looking follower I've ever seen, do other guns use a stamping with no sides like that?
Old 1911 magazine followers.
+J. Dalton I see the similarity. You know, I always learn a lot from your videos.
I have a hi-point S&W 40 and have the same issue, will this work on this one?
This is my first video of yours, Do tou quench the mag and spring in oil, cold water, or some other fluid. This looks like it would work on the carbine magazine.
Water.
Do you have a video of the 10 round clips?
Hi, I am thinking about buying a 9 and 45 Hi Point ! What would you think ? Would really love your input ! Love your vids !! Keep up the great work you do on RUclips!!
Nicely done
i have cycled no jokes 1000+ rounds and no exaggeration only had a 4 times where it was not pulling the round out other than that its been amazing whats the percentage of 4 malfunctions vs 1000 rounds fired?
It worked for mine thanks for the tip
I put the follower and spring from another single stack 9mm Taurus and fixed it 100% so why can't high point just make a better magazine ??? Wouldn't take much.
My 45 high point JHP has a orange plastic thing at the top instead of the metal one can it be converted or does it need a new magazine?
My HP 40 S&w mags have a green plastic ammo feed not metal. However after watching your vid, I just bent the end of the springs down and stretched the entire spring. It now feeds as it should. KISS is always better.
KISS=keep it simple stupid
I am starting to have stove pipe issues with my c9 never had any issues before what causes this . thanks
I'd call and ask for a new firing pin spring.
Will do thanks
there has to be a something you can do to a lorcin as well but its not that importan , i bought a pt638 for standard price i guess but the mags are almost half the price and i can't find any after market mags that will fit i looking for 58hc the 84 is nicer but the 58 hc something about that 19plus1 sticks in your head like the pmr 30 but you know the round i trust just not the "lightness" is what ill say of the pmr 30 bad ass concept though
Great video! Thanks!
Yeou saund like yer from Pittsburgh, n'at. lol Thanks for the vid, yuinz guys rock!
Nunya Biznis....I'm from Butler County......Go Penns!!!
Thank u so very much
i just want to say all video that you do are helpful... just one question... with this work for the Hi Point 380acp and the s&w 40cal?
Cf380 yes, just don't open the feed lips. JCP 40 sale it!!!
Have a nice day
+Inglewood Squirrel Cool deal.. just remember the only Hi-point magazine that gets open feed lip is the C9
the old treatment was awesome try Jello sugar or sand
thanks vary good keep up the great work
+JoAnn Holloway Your welcome
Do you have anymore videos on your Phoenix hp22a? Also have you had any issues with?
+Pop Corn No..And im starting to get light hits. But could be ammo
Will this work with the extended mag as well?
That was best I have seen
excellent vid when are you going to finish the torture test
OH YA!!
When you replace your old spring with this spring you WILL notice the increased power. Load the magazine as much as you can and let it sit a few days till you can load to maximum capacity. Once you fill to maximum capacity you MUST let them sit for 3 weeks as standard with any new magazine spring replacement.
JD, is this a better fix than the Ghost Inc. mag spring?
