Grad students or students in general would never voice their opinion on a platform as public as twitter. And they would also laugh at the joke whether they found it funny or not because you just don't mess with the people who are in control of your grades.
He is a guest lecturer so he doesn't control their grades but u r right u don't post stuff like that coz it cud get u kicked out or u may need that persons help in the future

Problems with this scene: Sheldon is teaching topological insulators. Students appear to think this is a "relatively boring subject". But this subject is highly specialized and would only be taken by students who are actively involved in research related to it, and thus wouldn't consider it boring.
Also, Sheldon wouldn't teach a course on topological insulators. It's a polar opposite field and expertise compared to his, and according to the rest of the show he doesn't respect this field at all. He would probably be teaching something in high energy physics.
Accuracies in this scene: The CdTe/HgTe stack is indeed the concept of a 2007 paper about topological insulator phase of HgTe. The rest of the stuff on the table is solid state but not exactly relevant to topic though.
Could he be etaching the theory behind the topological insulators?
Also eigenvalues is misspelled for some reason

I've had profs like Sheldon. And while I was in the class I was saying KMN. But looking back on it, it was useful. Sort of the way a proctology exam is useful.
One guy managed to shut down the entire department. Hotshot new prof and every grad student in the dept signed up. 40 of us. And he was giving us 60 hours a week of homework. He gave us an open-book take-home exam as a final. So for 3 months nothing but his homework got done.
What amazes me is...after all the digs by Sheldon, Penny just goes with the flow and still cares about him.
She knows how he is, and that's not entirely his fault.
Everytime I watch this episode I feel like laughing and feeling sorry for Sheldon
he can't help himself Leonard even stated in a later season he doesn't do it on purpose its just who he is

@@Nakajima-oh7kw When was that? And even if it was, it's just another of those inconsistencies the writers added. It goes against everything established about him. Do you really think a person who knows what he is doing would really think his lecture was triumphant. You can see here how confident he was that his lecture went well. That shows he had basically zero understanding of what happened or what he did.
Erm a) Nobody takes notes on a computer in a college physics lecture, nevermind a doctoral program, b) Nobody tweets in doctorate level physics class. and c) Students in a doctorate level physics class would laugh at the electron joke. We're all nerds.

It also sums up the main long running issue with the show, the point is just to humiliate the characters for being socially inept nerds without taking into account their actual flaws.
@@Falxifer95 The students didn't criticize him because he was socially inept. They criticized him because he was his usual demeaning egocentric self. Telling a group of students that they should have applauded him is just asking for the reaction he got, and he obviously wasn't a good teacher either. The episode where the university forced him to teach a class when he returned from his sabbatical and no one took it because he was so obnoxious proved how bad a teacher he was.
Just because a professor has great deal of knowledge doesn't mean he is a great teacher too who will make concepts easier to understand.

When Howard was telling Penny how bad the lecture was by comparing it to nuclear disasters, I thought he forgot to add Fukushima. But then I looked it up and this episode aired just over a month before the Fukushima nuclear disaster

@@MattWesss only in Rogue One, in the Legends universe it was Bevel Lemelisk who designed the Death Star. He didn’t know about the design flaw...and potentially the contractors at Despayre used shoddy materials and may have botched his design to cut corners. However, it didn’t matter much since the Emperor had Lemelisk put to death after the Death Star’s destruction. Repeatedly, too!
If he had been my instructor, I would have asked why he used electron as an example instead of proton. A hydrogen atom can have more than one electron (or neutron), but it can only have one proton. Maybe the writers hadn't heard of ions?
Too bad they can't show people flipping the bird on tv. I would have loved to see all those people raising their middle fingers at Sheldon simultaneously when he turned around then see them quickly lower them when he turns back.

Not me. I rejoice every time he gets taken down a peg or two. He is so egotistical and self-centered that the students already knew his reputation for being demeaning and insulting and they showed him nothing but disdain in return.

True, but honestly, if I end up getting an A at the end of the semester just for listening to him brag about himself, then I would take that class.
What I find funny is how they had to explain the joke with the electron for the large masses of viewers who wouldn't have gotten it otherwise.

That's because he never really laughed. In YS when the engineering professor told a joke, Sheldon literally said "ha-ha".
Sheldon may be incredibly prideful, but he didn't deserve this. Those bullies made his childhood enough of a challenge as it is. Sometimes I find myself wishing they all had one head so I could cave it in with my fist.
No one deserves to have their life made hell like that through bullying, not even Professor Cooper.
Luke Johnson I'd feel the same way, except Sheldon kept provoking others into bullying him. He kept rubbing in how smart he was and insulted other people's intelligence, and was too self-centered and obnoxious to consider that they might leave him alone if he stopped being an asshole.
All in all, he did deserve those beatings. Sheldon needs to learn his place and realize that he isn't superior to everybody.

I agree! This is the kind of sloppiness that turned me off from TBBT. If you're going to make a show about physicists, then get the details right.
