I have nothing if I don’t have you: I have been on this earth for now 75 years and experienced great vocalist but none the likes of Angelina Jordan. It is not just her unique voice it is her total being that moves me and others like no one else can. AJ has the rare talent to translate and manipulate a song so that it penetrates what we refer to as a soul. Whitney singing “I Have Nothing” never affected me like AJ version does.

You need to hear all 4 songs from NGT2014 which she won at age 8, and all three songs from AGT2020 at age 13... then her music video tribute to Elvis singing "Suspisous Minds" at age 16 ... and yes she is thw best singer in the world right now!! Her family has protected her from fame so she could have a childhood and yet allowed her to sing and many large concerts and sings world wide mainly in English which is her 3rd language

She conversed with the famous shoeless girl in Teheran in Farsi... at age 6. She sang a japanese traditional song in Japanese in Tokio for a japanese audience. Yes, Angelina doesn’t stop putting in 100% effort until the last breath of a note is completed. Do yourselves a favor and go listen to the end. Angelina’s long soft final note brings in gentle vibrato toward the end. It’s a beautiful contrast to the power she uses mid-song.
She's pretty much self taught, of course she has had vocal coaches, specifically for technique and how not to damage the voice, but never to change her 'sound'...why would you? Moreover, she never does a cover'just like' the original, she makes them all her own while paying respect to the original.
I'm pretty sure Angelina will never be a contestant on The Voice, as she is already signed with Republic Records, and RR is connected with The Voice. However, Angelina should certainly be a guest start there!.

Because this is her natural register. If you listen to her version of this at 13, she was pretty much giving us a cover that tried to emulate Whitney. It was a very good performance by a 13 year old, but this is more natural-and it’s one of her best, in my opinion. Angelina doesn’t compete with original artists. She pays tribute here to Whitney, but this is all Angelina-and I love the depth and resonance of her voice.
A singer should never sing a song in a register that is unnatural for them. Whitney was a soprano, but AJ is an alto. When AJ was 13, she did an amazing rendition of this song in the same register as Whitney, but as good as it was, she was tapping out a bit at the highest notes. This is not a knock on the singer. Different voices, different vocal ranges.
There's things Withney can do, that Angelina can't do, but at the same time, there's things that Angelina can do, that Withney couldnt do. And that's not a dig at Withney but just a compliment for both.

She's pretty much self taught, of course she has had vocal coaches, specifically for technique and how not to damage the voice, but never to change her 'sound'...why would you? Moreover, she never does a cover'just like' the original, she makes them all her own while paying respect to the original.

Because this is her natural register. If you listen to her version of this at 13, she was pretty much giving us a cover that tried to emulate Whitney. It was a very good performance by a 13 year old, but this is more natural-and it’s one of her best, in my opinion. Angelina doesn’t compete with original artists. She pays tribute here to Whitney, but this is all Angelina-and I love the depth and resonance of her voice.

Whitney was a soprano & Angelina is a contralto with a lower voice.
A singer should never sing a song in a register that is unnatural for them. Whitney was a soprano, but AJ is an alto. When AJ was 13, she did an amazing rendition of this song in the same register as Whitney, but as good as it was, she was tapping out a bit at the highest notes. This is not a knock on the singer. Different voices, different vocal ranges.
