I just turned this on while having the Olympics on mute. I looked up and they showed Mick Jagger clowning around with Jimmy Fallon during the women's 100m hurdle final. Lol. I love you, Mick and the Stones!
Ronnie Wood really added a lot of funk when he joined the Stones. Perfect give and take with Richards on guitars. You gotta do UNDERCOVER OF THE NIGHT! Funktastic.
Got "Some Girls" when it came out, the cover with ALL the pictures, Farrah Fawcett Majors and the others, still have it. Didn't get to see The Rolling Stones live until the "Steel Wheels" tour in 1989, and it was a great show, worth waiting for. BTW, Drummer Charlie Watts (RIP) was known as "The Human Metronome", due to his perfect timing.
The Some Girls album was a departure for the Stones. Many of their fans did not initially care for the album . For many decades since, though, several songs from Some Girls remain popular live songs in their concerts, including : Some Girls, Shattered, Respectable, Before They Make Me Run, Beast of Burden, and Miss You. Many of these have extended horn sections in their live versions.
Yes, the use of a "certain word" in this song, -before they put warning stickers on music for language , As my brother and I were getting into Rock Music during 1978-beyond (past our Parents albums by Simon&Garfunkel, Glen Campbell, the Carpenters, Petula Clark, Gordon Lightfoot -all quality and fine music!) Yet while The Beatles were accepted by our parents,...Ou Mom told us she didn't approve of The Rolling Stones, because they are "lewd". That is like the red cape before a Bull. My brother bought "Some Girls" and "Hot Rocks" on cassette, and hid them in his bedroom. Mom eventually gave up her objections, except to not play music too loud.
the funny thing about this one is the fact that this song when the whip comes down and a few more had very controversial lyrics and some swearing but there was never no warning sticker back then.
I love that whole album I was 15 when I bought it after that I bought Stones albums every payday and I'm still buying them lol. The Stones are great I have tons of requests by them. If you want to get into the Stones I suggest live you won't regret it
@@L33Reacts could it have been, maybe, "black girls just wanna get fucked all night, I just don't have that much jam"? You think that pissed them off? odds on favorite.
In 1978, that sounded so good… this album was a favorite in the summer, at record store I worked in Downtown Montreal! I still have it on Cd, I love it!!
Same. My copy is the original version, before they recalled them, due to getting sued for the inclusion of celebrity photos on the cover without getting permission. I think it was just a few days (maybe a week?) before all the record stores pulled them from the bins.
This song is totally tongue in cheek, as is the Pop Art inspired album cover which shows the band members in ridiculous drag. Actually, Mick looks pretty good in some of those old fashioned wigs.
One of their better Tours in support of a great “complete” album. The opening acts for the part of the Tour I caught in The Superdome, New Orleans were first, Van Halen then The Doobie Brothers and then The Stones. Tightest band of the night (by a mile) were the Doobies. But I’m not complaining. The show was great! 🤘😉 Favorite Stones Tour attended after this was Voodoo Lounge. 🔥
as did the cover-the original had stars like Lucille Ball on the cover which threatened a lawsuit if their photos remained on the cover-I wonder if they heard or red the lyrics to the song as well. the original cover is now a collector's item.
For anyone too young to remember, the Stones played surprise gigs in a small club in Toronto called the El Mocambo in March of 1977. The whole gig turned into a fiasco with Keith Richards being busted for heroin possession and being threatened with a possible life sentence for trafficking. Keith spent quite a bit of time awaiting trial in Toronto, so he wrote and recorded several songs. Including writing Before They Make Me Run for their upcoming album about his heroin bust. He got sentenced for heroin possession and thought he was going to get seven years. But instead he was ordered probation and to play a concert for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind in Oshawa Ontario just outside of Toronto. So that was the main event. The side show was Maggie Trudeau (current Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s mother) being a groupie and getting a room next to the Stones in the Harbour Castle Hilton. There is no proof, but it is pretty well suspected she slept with Ronnie Wood and/or Mick Jagger. So she was definitely a “fan” of the Stones. Her husband, 57 year old Pierre Trudeau (Justin’s father) who was the PM of Canada at the time, on the other hand was probably NOT a fan. Seeing your 29 year old estranged kooky wife being a groupie with the most popular rock and roll group at the time and jetting off to Studio 54 in NYC several times (where she also partied with them) probably turned him right off the Stones.
So many awesome songs from the Stones vast catalogue. Here’s one that really highlights their blues roots and showcases Mock Taylor’s amazing lead guitar - Love in Vain bonus track from the remastered Sticky Fingers. This one is high up their mountain of classics IMO.
When this album came out in 1978, on Saturday Night Live, on the Weekend Update news, cast member Garret Morris started the music editorial of this album. Morris, paused and asked "Mr. Jagger - where are these Girls?" (like hook me up, man!) 😋🤭
Actually some girls was one of the first Rolling Stones album that I ever bought because I was blessed to have my older brother and sister turned me on to their older stuff which I absolutely love as my whole family is a Rolling Stones family❤ even my Mom lol. It was the big four for us back then that being Zeppelin Stones Beatles and Who!! I understand the Beatles place in history but the Stones always have my heart ❤️ Plenty more material for you Lee as we haven't even scratched the surface❤
Rolling Stones-Jumpin' Jack Flash (Official Music Video) (With Makeup)...Would love to see L33's reaction to this but for all you Stones fans who haven't yet seen it...THIS IS AMAZIN'!
My sister purchased one of the original album cover printings of Some Girls! It features photos of celebrities mixed in with the Stones! Unfortunately, due to copyrights, they had to pull Some Girls off the shelf and replace it with a new cover! Wonder if she still owns the original?
I bought it on vinyl and 8 track when it was released. Great mix of genres on this album: R&B, Funk, Protopunk/Punk, Country, Blues Rock. Beggars Banquet to Some Girls their best imo.
Winter, Moonlight Mile, Fingerprint File. Highwire, Memory Motel, Silver Train. Rocks Off.....the list goes on and on and on......10 songs huh.another 400 you'll be all caught up.
Thanks for the reaction Lee. The whole album is good. I think they must have slept will loads of girls and Jagger is describing them. Pretty funny. But these days people get so offended so easily it's crazy.
Mick had just gone through one of his divorces, and that contributed to the attitude of this song. Lee, if you like this track then you’ll enjoy the whole Some Girls LP. The production brings out the snap in Charlie’s snare and many songs have a “live take” feel to them - a little raw.
Great song, great band! Saw the Stones at the First Union Center in Philly back in March of 99. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of anything after their Tatoo You album. Love their early stuff a lot! Next, check out “Respectable,” released in 78. Also, check out “Bitch,” released in 71. ✌️
Have you looked at any of the stuff from Ed Sullivan? Try 'Ruby Tuesday' for a start. '19th Nervous Breakdown', 'Mother's Little Helper', 'Lady Jane', 'Have You Seen Your Mother...', '2000 Light Years from Home', 'Street Fighting Man', 'Salt of the Earth', 'Happy', all good picks of the myriad choices. Can hardly go wrong. ✌🏼😉🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
@@L33Reacts sorry bro I didn't see that reaction, I'm watching now, hey Lee do you know somethig about the BY FAR best Ispano-latin america band EVER, Serú Girán ?
Your thumbnail has an original cover. it was withdrawn and redone after Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcet, Raquel Welch and the estates of Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland threatened legal action. I bought mine when it was first released and these famous faces perplexed me. What were they doing on a stones album?
FYI: When Beatles did Sgt Pepper, Mae West at first refused to allow her likeness on the cover. "What would I be doing in a lonely-hearts club?" SO, the four Beatles wrote her these impassioned handwritten notes saying how much they loved her and she must be on their cover. She gave her permission. See, you first have to soothe the ego.
Been a Stones fan since before they came to the states. I like the music on this one, but, sometimes, even the Stones don't hit it out of the park. Just a matter of of opinion, people. I'm not trying to upset anyone. I didn't like every Beatles song, either.
Disco & Punk were 2 popular genres at the time. I think the Stones just wanted to show that they could do both better than many of the top artists of the time - I even think they are partially parodying the trends of the mid-70’s. Excellent album overall.
This was their last good album as far as I'm concerned. I think this track is more just cynical about women than actually abusive. It could happen to any insanely famous rockstar.
What Stones song should we do next? Let me know!
Choose anything and you'll choose a winner.
Girl With the Far Away Eyes and Shattered
Sister morphine

Shattered ❤
Charlie Watts preferred being a jazz drummer, and thankfully, he stayed with the Stones until the end. RIP Charlie ❤
Raunchy and kick ass. That's when the Stones are best. Another is Stray Cat Blues.
Whole album is really good.
This is the first album I bought with my own money as a young teenager. Great album.
Yup
Must listen to Miss You. Shattered and Beast of Burden too(from Some Girls) Just my Imagination, Smoky Robinson cover is smooth and nice
Charlie was always on fine !!!! Held it all together. He kept the rhythm for the rest to follow. RIP Charlie you genius.

A band that never disappoints.
Unless you saw them live in the early eighties. They were nothing but.

This was my era of the Stones. Emotional Rescue, Some Girls, and Tattoo You was the trifecta
Go back to 68-72 Let It Bleed, Beggars Banquet, Sticky Fingers and Exile!
the funny thing about this one is the fact that this song when the whip comes down and a few more had very controversial lyrics and some swearing but there was never no warning sticker back then.

I owned this album and am surprised RUclips is not having a snit over some of the lyrics. I hope they don't, but they're not known for their humor.
oh i totally got demonetized already for this video. it's all good. lol i'm guessing it was the lyrics.

You have yet to delve into “Exile on Main Street,” their greatest album in my opinion and one of my all-time favorite albums.
TV Jagger was sued for child support at least once.
The song was about all the groupies Mick had
Keith Richards is the ultimate pirate rocker and roller I mean the guy snorted his father’s ashes after he was cremated fact
Charlie’s drumming has the same kind of tone (for lack of a better word) throughout the entire album.
i gotta hear some more then. this was an excellent outing for charlie.
@@L33Reacts absolutely! Also the album is cohesive in another way. A lot of the songs are in the key of A. Not all but quite a few
