    it's fun that you can tell how bad the rust is due to the extent of the paralax shift on the stuff you can see through the holes

    Cool stuff! Two major icons of automotive history, a SAAB 96 and a Trabant. What a team. Keep up the good work.

    This is amazing. In my street today, what has turned up, a rather sad looking Saab 96! It's a D reg model (1966 I think). It is crying out for a resto, it's a dull grey colour, no sheen on the paintwork at all. Full of rust and dents on the bodywork. But obviously driveable. Not sure who it belongs to , I'll keep my eye on it. Would be lovely to see it back to it's original glory, as I say it is in a really sorry state at the moment

    The only thing that saved the centre of the floor from rust, was the engine oil leak running down the floor. lol

    Those v4 SAAB:s are geting quite expensive here in Sweden too. I see people wanting 50 000 kr (~ $6-6500 ) nowadays. You could practically get them for free 20-30 years ago.

      My grandfather had one of the very first versions with a 2 cylinder aircould engine, but he became fedup on in it so he sould it, that one had been pretty cool to hawe today, i hawe never seen one, not even on musem here yet.

    If you like Saab, you will probably like the Swedish movie A man called Ove, or the book does not know if it is translated, but the film is available with English subtitles. Thanks for a great channel.

    even my 2010 saab 9-3 has a completely rusted out subframe. it's no longer safe to drive :( I love the car and it's in great shape aside from the subframe. only 84k miles too

    • @TheJunky228
      @TheJunky228 Год назад +2

      the passenger side has a giant gap across the bottom, and there're giant holes on both sides which extend to the top as well. I've been driving it daily too lmao
      I think the only thing holding it together right now is the right control arm, since it's bolted to both sides of the rust holes. left turns are sketchy and I can feel the right wheel shift through the steering wheel. there's also a rattling when going over small quick bumps which is probably the subframe flexing and bouncing on the body

    I wonder why the V4 engine was not more popular-it is very compact and delivers good low end torque. It would be nice an a car like an AudiA4-much more room in the engine compartment. Of course, this was an engine developed in the 1950s-a new version would be much more powerful and quiter.

    That's too bad to give up on that car. It can be saved, but it would be a nightmare! I always feel cars have souls. But I think that your made the right decision, to get another car. Just don't destroy the car. Take what parts you need and try to find a home for the body. I've seen cars restored that were pretty bad. Someone my want to take that rusty mess and fix it up just for the challenge.

    Sometimes its better to give up on a rust bucket, it barely holding itself on the lift there. Maybe cut out the floor entirely and make up something stupid :)
