After playing in sealed: Your assessments were mostly on point for that format, but you're welcome was very good if played correctly. Almost everyone had 1-2 big threats and if played in the last few rounds it did win 2 games against me.
Thank you!!! Doesn’t mean my conclusions are always correct, but I’ve done a lot of test drafts so far and I’m fairly confident in my assessments 😉 Sealed does change a bit because you haven’t curated your picks, so the decks tend to be less powerful and thus slower. So 1-2 cost character valuations go down (not much, but some), and 4-6 drops go up, but the rule about 7+, especially uninkables, absolutely holds - be careful with them!
You could use You're Welcome on your own character, then you get to draw the 2 cards. This could work on a character you know is going to be outed easily, so you can quest and then draw 2 cards out of it. I think it should be put in the Low C High D category, especially because it is inkable.
It’s a fair point, and one I considered, but it’s still just a 2-for-2 card exchange on your own character and a real feel bad on yours opponents, so even with the flexibility that’s two rough situations. Really the only time I’m ok with this card is when my opponent drops a bomb and then it’s like ok I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do. Which probably means it should be a D, yes. Ink most of the time but if you’ve got to use it you’ve got to use it. Good call 🫡
I think there are a couple things here that I'd disagree with. As someone else mentioned, Fauna has to be a B. A 3/7/2 Statline for a 5 drop is basically the 2nd best possible vanilla distribution IMO, only behind a 4/6/2. Perhaps tied with a 5/5/2. And those cards have proven to be worthy of being picked in the top 4-5. Next I would move the large Gothel up to a High B as well. I would be happy to pick that card in the top 3-4 cards most of the time. I understand that there are some scenarios where your opponent can bounce something beneficial to them, but much more often it is detrimental. And as mentioned a 4/6/2 stat distribution is great. So you're paying 1 more lore for bounce, which you will have some control over since you can challenge beforehand to limit the target base. That late in the game there are unlikely to be 1/2 drops available to be bounced, so pretty often it is going to be something that is a huge tempo swing for you. Clarabelle also is definitely *not* a D. It's possibly even pushing a B-/C+. A 5/6/2 would normally cost 6 and be very good. For 1 more ink you have that with the chance that it will sometimes draw you cards, or at least force your opponent to not hold cards. Even if it never draws you a single card, that is a C. Finally Merryweather is also not a D. Neither was Megara. Being able to give +2 and leave a body behind is rarely bad. It is very common to find use of that type of ability. For a similar reason, Ed should be higher. Perhaps Green is just so good that you were afraid to move cards higher.
You’re hitting all the ones I struggled to rate. 😂 Gothel has played out too slow for me in the test drafts I’ve done but she certainly reads as a strong choice. And lastly Clarabelle I think is a moot point because anyone is just going to take her when they open her regardless 😂. But you make a good point. The ceiling is certainly high. If I have clarabelle I’d want to draft a really low curve deck so I could hopefully empty my hand quicker than my opponent and take full advantage of her ability. Also Emerald is really good, and I did find I was rating too many things as low C, which after listening again I think there was some I’d at least bump up to mid to high C.
I think Fauna is a high B, even if there are many other really good 5 drops. First of all, she still has 3 strength and most other 5/6 drops have less than 7 willpower and less than 7 strength, so if a 5 drop attacks twice into her you're almost always trading. And if they trade up with a 3 and a 4 drop, these will be easily traded into with small characters. Plus your opponent leaving themselves with a lot of damage on board, opens them up to a Robin Hood or anything else that benefits from your opponent having damage. I know most of these abilities aren't great, but by all means there are so many of them in this set they'll still be somewhat relevant imo. Also you changed my mind on You're Welcome. I thought it could help an aggro strategy an opening to close out the game, or a midrange/control strat a way to cycle this + a one drop for 1 cards or get rid of an opponents bomb. But all 3 of these usecases just don't seem to great.
I think that’s a really valid point with Fauna. In other sets I would have been thrilled to take her, I’m just struggling to want to take her highly when there are at least 3-4 five drops I want to take over her, and when I only want a small handful of 5 drops total it’s hard to prioritize her. That being said, as in all things once I’ve got more games in I may look at her more favourably. She certainly has a ton of potential.
I’m very disappointed that Treasure Planet only got one card in this set. And in my opinion, it’s baffling that out of all the characters from the underrated masterpiece Ravensburger could’ve included for Shimmering Skies, they had to go with just Scroop because he’s a character from the movie that you’d least expect to be the only one in a single set. At least it's better than the film not getting a card in a set at all, but still. The lack of cards that TP has been getting compared to the other popular and especially unpopular IPs is totally unacceptable, if you ask me. As a die-hard and passionate fan of the film, I’ll never tolerate that at all. It deserves as many cards as the other fan-favorite classics regardless of it’s box-office results, you know. I seriously hope that when the next set’s announced at the big D23 event in Anaheim this Friday during the Past, Present, and Future panel, it better get way more than it had gotten so far. 😤
Funny you mention TP as I literally just re-watched it this afternoon. For me I’d like to see a better card for John Silver. Sure it was a legendary but it wasn’t nearly good enough for such a great character. Morph is just A+ on theme since he can turn into anything. I think Mrs.Hawkins could be a good mentor character, and the captain also deserved better.
@@BeOurGuestLorcana There are lots of other things from the movie that should get a card that haven't gotten one yet. For characters: Dr. Doppler, B.E.N. Mr. Arrow, Captain Flint, and even John Silver's pirate gang. For locations: The Montressor Spaceport, The BennBow Inn, and of course, Treasure Planet itself. For items: Sarah Hawkins' holographic locket, the holographic storybook at the very beginning of the film, a laser pistol, Captain Amelia's big laser gun, and B.E.N.'s memory chip. And lastly, the only two songs, which are I'm Still Here and Always Know Where You Are.

Thanks for the insight! Admittedly I wrote off You’re Welcome from the start, so maybe I have to give it another chance 😉
I absolutely love that you tell us how you came to your conclusions!
Does any rating change with sealed compared to draft?

Ooooo BEN and Captain Flint, yes!!
I’ve been told I should reevaluate Ed 😂🤷🏼♂️
Is it going to confuse people if I disagree with myself?… 😂
