I still can't believe that all of these buildings were leveled. It was like someone dropped a MOAB on the area and rendered total destruction of anything in its path

Fire is like that, especially in super dry and windy conditions. It seems to have a mind of it's own, and seeks out the best fuel-in this case the dry underbrush and the homes and other buildings. :/ Trees have a higher moisture content than anything that we can build, and just like trying to build a cook fire w/ green wood, you won't get flame from it until all of the moisture is 'boiled out' of it. But they retain high degrees of heat and can regenerate flame after a good wind with leaves from the next stand over. I've always thought that fire was like a living creature at times.

Not to mention the local news here in Nashville has quoted the TBI and OEM as saying that out of 72 separate fires, they believe that 46 of them are arson and have arrested 7 suspects who they have not identified. Same magazines also had an article on how to carry out stabbing attacks and low and behold, we get one in Ohio shortly afterwards.
Actually the reason is not due the overall height, thr highest point is only 6400 fasl but due to the amount of moisture there causes the "smoke" like effect to hover at tree. level. I grew up there and am saddened to see the damage caused by careless people.

Greed? These homes were retirees and these businesses were others livelihood. God help the Gatlinburg people who lost their livelihoods and didn't have insurance because the building was paid off. Trump needs to come here and rebuild this place. Gatlinburg is the center of selflessness. Do you know how good these people are?? I'm not saying everyone in Gatlinburg's a saint, but you won't find a homeless person who hasn't been offered work(unless they're a drunk or druggie). These people are THE BEST IN AMERICA.

Wind blown embers fell on roofs and power lines to houses were down due to winds. The trees are burnt just not to the ground.
