- Pandas have helped to mend US-China relations twice in the past. Is it about to happen again?
The United State’s last pandas are set to leave Zoo Atlanta by the end of 2024, when their loan from China expires. While some see the withdrawing of these diplomatic creatures as China’s way of retaliating amidst heightened tensions with the US, there might be hope. In November 2023, Chinese President Xi Jinping promised at a business dinner that San Diego Zoo would get pandas again.

If you heard what happened to Yaya and Lele in Memphis zoo, you would not allow US to have another panda, ever.
Look at YaYa now a year later after returning home, huge difference .Lele didn't make it home. What a shame.

Not all pandas in the US have been ill-treated. Some had. E.g. "Ya Ya" in Memphis Zoo. I would have attached a pic of Ya Ya in Memphis Zoo & a few months after return to China except that I can't attach a pic or video link in YT comment.
My take is that some US zoos no longer can provide the required care for pandas, just like some US cities can't deal with their homeless.
No offense meant. I think China needs to do good due diligence before sending pandas to the US.

From vids on YT, I think the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, D.C. had taken excellent care of Mei Xiang, Tian Tian, and Xiao Qi Ji [literally “Little Miracle” in Mandarin]. 💓
The care of pandas in the United States is really terrible compared with that in South Korea.

Exactly, and the zoo's environment where they kept the Pandas in the US are not suitable for having 🐼 Panda. Thats the reason why China should stop sending or loan any of their beautiful 🐼 pandas to USA.

Q: Is panda really necessary for Zoo because there are many other options.
The cost to rent the panda isn't exactly cheap and can cost over a million annually for the upkeep/rent.
To the American, Yes. They are desperate to have 🐼 pandas in their zoo because 🐼 panda are rare not like those plentiful animals like 🐻 brown or black bears, grizzly bears, polar bears, Lions, Tigers and so on.
And 🐼 pandas are only found in 🇨🇳 China which 🇺🇸 the US can't get any or loan from another country that has 🐼 Panda.

:3 guess technology in salvaging the fertilizer for animals wasn't as develop as it is today ~ some of the endangered species dna are now kept to bring their species back in the event if they go extinct (even if it has potential to fail to produce)
There are plenty of other animals from other nation that is rare to American who doesn't travel outside USA so focus can be redirected. That being said; a large amount of $$ and time was used to promote Pandas so over in all - its just a stable but not absolute necessary given many zoos without panda are doing just as good compare to the ones with it in USA.

China ceased Panda Diplomacy, the gifting away of giant Pandas, after 1984.
Leasing, IMHO, is a preferred option.
Firstly, China is the most committed to Panda conservation. China holding on to Panda ownership is in the best interest of Pandas.
Secondly, leasing allows Pandas to serve as wildlife conservation ambassadors, providing an attraction to the recipient zoo & increasing its revenue, and [the leases] contributing a token to China’s huge panda conservation efforts.

History has also taught us that whenever dealing any trade with 🇮🇳 India, always ask for full payment from them first before shipping out the cargo to them. Thats because 🇷🇺 Russia make one silly mistake by sending their cargo of oil🛢to India and India doesn't want to pay Russia by giving one lame excuse by saying that India will not pay Russia for the oil in either the Chinese Yuan or the Russian Ruble except their Indian Rupee. Now, which country in the world would want to accept those useless Indian Rupee with curry smell.
