The superb 70’s ! I am just buying a 1969 cruiser with twin Ford Sabre engines! I cant believe it, going to refurbish her, those Ford engines have a superb pedigree if they can run flat out right around the British Isles! My dad was working at Decca building TV,s and they used to set them up with these ‘Trade Test Transmissions’ loads of short films that I used to watch over and over in the summer holidays. We were the first in our street to have COLOUR TV ! So all my mates used to come round all the time! Lol Happy days i loved the 70’s give me a Tardis and I am off back there! No acid attacks or brexit or the country being taken over by immigrants 😕 back then we were just ENGLAND not part of grotty Europe, they can keep it!!!!!!! I never realised before that the music was written by Jeff Wayne! I went to see War of The Wolds in stage at Wembley that was AWESOME!
Loved this film when it was shown on our new colour TV - partly because I was at Southsea for the finish of the race. Little did I know that one day I'd be reporting on Clark and Makinen's rally exploits as a motorsport journalist...
I've recently showed my Great Nephew Bodhi this film he said I wish I could have been there like you referring to me. I'm glad I was there it's a time I'll never forget.
I am in this film some of the children on Southsea beach were my family. I can not believe it is 50 years ago since the film was made and the race run. Portsmouth never did this again it was a one off. 1969 and I was 11 and can remember Ford being at Southsea making this wonderful film.
Ah, the rich at play! Don't remember seeing it as a trade test. Impressed by the steadiness of the helicopter shots even at long telephoto, before the days of fancy gyro stabilised camera mounts. Looks like the camera ship was an Allouette 2.
Brings back many memories watching this and all the other colour test transmissions. Always liked this one, partly because of the music by Jeff Wayne.....wonder if he wrote anything else... 😉
In those days I lived in Burbidge Grove 2 mins from the beach. We could see the sea from upstairs of our house. We lived there 1966 to 1975. I still live in Portsmouth I was born here today I live in Cosham.
Around 1968 BBC2 was the only colour TV channel in the UK and the trade we're trying to sell colour TVs to the public, so BBC2 broadcast a number of programmes repeatedly during the day to promote and demonstrating the wonders of colour TV to be shown in new sets in high street stores
Brilliant. Watched this so many times as a kid and loved it. So glad it survived for all to see.
Loved these trade test films, watched lots wayyyyyy back then. Happy days

Great, I watched this film years ago on the old TV, I love power boats, and it was pleasure to watch it again.

This has brought back so many memories of my teenage years. How fantastic to see this again.
I remember watching all these as a kid - Evoluon, Bulong and Bola and this one was always my favourite!
This was my favourite too.
As a kid I thought it was great that we had there was something to watch on the TV during the day. It is so different now.

War of the worlds
Double LP from 1978
I loved this film. I wanted to be a power boat racer when I grew up and would you believe it, I didn't. Oh well.
I loved this film back in the day, primarily for the cracking music. Thank you for posting it, ttf2011.
Thanks for sharing this - I remember watching this a couple of times when it featured on BBC2
used to watch these when i was off school poorly.
The psychedelic surfer ! Memories

I remember when this was coming through Whitby.
The results show that Don Shead and Alan Burnard know/knew how to design a planing hull.
does anyone have a copy of the small propeller? it's the only one I can't find
Yep
I wonder who composed the score - Shazam can't find it
Easily found out...
@@SB-mi2ii Fine who was it then ?
Jeff Wayne composed the music, he went on to much bigger things - The War of the Worlds.
@@pfield39 That's very interesting, I would never have guessed. Thanks
Wasn't this a Trade Test Colour Film?
