I'm happy to see how SJ Cam progressed over the years, back in the days I'd compare it with cheap Chinese GoPro knock offs, but this one stands out and seems to catch up quickly, this field is a good field for competitions, I think that DJI and SJ can give some nice fight to GoPro and I love the GoPro but I think those companies will make the GoPro be even better in the future.
Hey! So sorry for the delayed reply! It's definitely great to see more solid competition, hopefully driving prices down and performance up. GoPro has experience on their side but it really is getting to be such a small difference that they won't survive at the same price anymore without some serious specs. From what I've seen, GoPro's stabilization is the #1 thing going for it at this point because other cameras do have nice IQ, feature sets and UI's now too.
@@ScottDumas Late reply? It's me who is replying late lol! I still prefer the GoPro, but if I'd need now something cheaper with good quality I.... probably would have some hard choices between this one for example and... last years GoPro which would be cheaper (just sold my GoPro 7 recently) yet would be awesome. But that's a step to the right direction, DJI got GoPro with their pretty much pants down when they released their DJI Osmo Action, but DJI had lots of experience in cameras and stabilization from their drones.... That's an interesting field now I guess... (which reminds me how eager I am to see and maybe even upgrade to the Canon R5)
@@DimusTech Yeah that's the one thing with these action cams... it seems they come out with new updated versions every 5 minutes and then if you can find last year's version even lightly used, it's huge savings. In any case, love seeing more legit competition now in the field. As for the R5 ....my heart can't wait but my wallet is crying lol
@@ScottDumas My wallet lives on uncertainty cause I'm trying to save money for it, but I have no idea how much will it actually cost, yet I'm not aware of all the specs yet and not sure yet that this is the one for me, for sure it will be a huge step from my beloved 70D
Hi! Do you can help me? I updated the sj10 Pro firmware from 0.0.7 to 0.0.9. The SJCam support did send the firmware to me. But it’s no possible update 0.0.9 to another new version firmware, SJCam support said. But how I update the 0.0.9 firmware to a new one? Thanks .
I have the SJ8 Pro. Quite surprised they rid off the front display in the SJ10 Pro. Nonetheless this is a good upgrade since it is waterproof out of the box.
The SJ9 Strike has a front screen but it seems none of the other 9 series do- I would say it could possibly be to increase the reliability of the waterproof body, but then I'd expect no screens on any of them.
Scott - excellent presentation. Thanks for taking the time to do night video - a lot of reviewers leave that out. At approximately 10min 34sec into the video, you mount the camera on a Plexiglas to record the hockey game. Could you share the name of the suction mount that you use - I'm having difficulty finding a decent one. I like the large green twist knobs which should be easy to turn to tighten the camera.
Doesn't matter how good their cameras are - With no proper high quality warranty, I would never ever buy one again. In England, I can buy a Gopro Hero 8 with a 2 year no quibble warranty, meaning any malfunction or failure with the camera and it's instantly replaced or I get a full refund.... I choose which option I want. Thanks for an excellent video. I had the M20, fault free, then bought an SJ8 Pro which had issues and it was a bad experience having to return it to China at my own expense, plus dealing with the unhelpful, rude SJ cam retailer. Never again. Warranty quality and after sales service is what determines everything I buy these days 👍🇬🇧
Hey, thanks for watching. I guess those experiences can run a wide range haha... for me it was actually the opposite- I've had great experience with SJCam support, but even with that awesome GoPro warranty, I fought with them for weeks going back and forth after getting a faulty Hero5, then a faulty replacement, then finally one that worked, but like... a month later. Hopefully on both sides our bad experiences were not the norm, and it's very very hard to fault GoPro especially now that their prices are coming down a bit... but, in any case, it's good to have some level of competition :) Thanks again for watching and commenting with your experiences!
Is it possible to (digitally)zoom during recording with these settings: FullHD, 60FPS (normal mode, not ultra), H264, defisheye on and image stabilization on?
I guess it would just depend on what your needs are. I think there are very incremental upgrades over the last model or two, but not much incredibly major.
@@momarriba6685 I haven't had any issues with the USB port myself, and the build quality is better than any other non-GoPro brand action camera I've used. I've had a better experience using the SJCam than the Insta360 One R, including build quality.
I'm not sure if it was technically beta or not, but haven't heard any updates since then. If anything significantly changes, I'll try to make an update video :)
Does this camera support 4k 60fps in car mode? Thats what I'm looking for and is missing in all 4k dashcams. 30fps will allow for a too long exposure and smear too much when it's winter here or similar. Also does it have a lock button so the current video clip isn't overwritten in loop recording mode? I couldn't find this out from the manual on line or reviews or forums.
Hi Scoot! I have sjcam sj8, do you think it's worth changing to sj10? Let's say that waterproofness is not something I care about rather I would focus on sound image quality and stability.
Hi! Honestly, the SJ8 is still a great camera. The SJ10 is marginally better in pretty much all areas, but it's not like you'd see a shocking upgrade in any one thing in particular. If you're happy now, I'd say no rush to upgrade :)
Hi Scott,I saw your sj10 pro video. I have sj8 plus and want to upgrade it,if sj10 pro will be 80-90% of GoPro 8 I will buy sjcam. Can you make a video to show it's stabilization in both rear and vlogging side with 1080p and 4k mode with 30,60,120 respectively. I m thinking between SJ 10 and GoPro 8,if sj10 is 90percent of GoPro 8 why not go for SJ cam and cheaper accessories than GoPro.
Hi! The camera I have is still a prototype so I'm not confident the software side of things is final or not. Something like stabilization could possibly be updated/improved... If I get the final version I'll try to do a dedicated stabilization test, but I don't have a gopro to compare it to so it's hard to judge the performance on its own. Generally speaking though, I think this will definitely be 80-90% of the GoPro and well worth the savings :)
Hi! Thanks so much :) Honestly, the SJCam options are the way to go if you want to save a little money ...even an earlier model if it's cheaper. There are some pretty affordable options if you don't need high frame rates, and the image quality is much better than other budget brands.
well the lens cover on the osmo action was also screwed on almighty tight. worth it or not said the slide over ND filters for osmo action also slide over the SJ10, but in regard to thread size ???? i use freewell myself on my osmo action.
Yeah I'm guessing it's just screwed on really tight but I'm waiting on confirmation from SJCam first before I break it trying to force it haha. Once I hear from them I'll definitely ask about the thread size as well, because filters like that would be awesome
Thanks so much! :) Hope they get it out soon! Honestly, I'd recommend whichever is the highest model SJCam available within your budget. They're some of the best image quality/full featured options I've come across at the price. I'm assuming you'd like to have compatibility with a helmet mic though? I'll be honest though if that's something important I'm really not sure, never actually took advantage of the mics in action cams myself enough to know which would be a good match, sorry :(
Thanks for the detailed review, I want to buy it for filming trout under water, so maximum depth of 3 meters, it's possible to know or to test if the wifi connection with the phone remains active at this depth?
That's a really good question! I've never tested the wifi while it's under water. If I get a chance I absolutely will do that! Not sure when that will be unfortunately but I'll try as soon as possible.
Not sure about the external mic ...some things had not yet been finalized, and I've only charged it with the included cable so not sure if others would work but I don't see why not.
Not exactly sure yet... I think details like that were supposed to be announced in early April but things could have got messed up because of COVID-19 so nothing has changed yet on their website. Definitely cheaper than the GoPro though.
Thanks for the first look. Very excited to see SJ10 Pro when actual camera goes out when it's been tweaked. The SJ8Pro does have 4k60....Here is a sample: ruclips.net/video/drOH7yXb8C4/видео.html I just wished that SJ10 would come out with a similar Hypersmooth stabilization at 4K60 like the GoPro Hero7 black.
Yeah it's those little differences that still prove GoPro has the top of the market and experience, but definitely exciting to see cameras like this at a significantly better price :) Looking forward to the launch myself!
Haha, GoPro is definitely still a great choice, but the menu here is far better than any cheap action camera I've seen. They also do have 2 versions of it... the "classic" and an icon view. Either way, it should be more about the image and the content of the menu than what it looks like, I'd imagine?
First week in a new studio, working out the kinks and getting things set up haha. I think it's improved quite a bit if you want to check out more recent videos ;)
