Make sure you check policy limitations. If you drive a 2020 malibu and opt for that escalade your policy may only cover up to the value of your vehicle. Same as such with your card.
What you fail to mention is your personal insurance’s deductible. With most car rental insurances average price for coverage being $30 a day, a 7 day rental of $210 in insurance is better than having to pay a $500 deductible or even higher deductible for some people and even possibly increasing your monthly rate. Always buy the insurance on a vehicle you’re renting.
Take a pic of your gas meter too. Returned a rental car with a full tank and they tried to charge me because they claimed that i didn't fill it up all the way. I showed them the pic and they apologized. Rental guy must’ve drove to another lot or something before turning in paperwork.
If you take cdw and there’s damage they won’t go after your insurance company so your insurance rates won’t go up for a claim . Also in many cases the credit card company won’t make a decision on payment till they have someone inspect the vehicle . So in the mean time you are getting the rack rate added to potential total . Many CC try to deny the claim . Courts tend to agree with documented details . At most airports there’s tons of cameras that are videoing the car before you leave the facility and there’s even cameras recording your return to facility.
I have Discover and MasterCard (via Ulta) and neither credit card company covers rental cars. Usually its for the black card members who have like 15K limits etc. I always get the waiver. Its more pricey but its worth it. One time the windshield on my rental car had a crack in it. Not sure what happened but I didn't pay anything out of pocket for that crack. My dad on the other hand cheaps out and he got side swiped by another car. He had to replace their side mirror for $300. So, I say go for the insurance unless your CC covers it, your personal policy covers it or you're balling lol
Walk around your car with your camera and record the interior, as well as the dash when you turn car on to see if any lights/warnings come on. Do this onsite and show outside the window to prove your location. Not all credit cards are accepted; make sure it's the right card. Check your own coverage yourself. Know the facts.
I only got the insurance once in my life. Ten minutes out of the lot and someone crashes into me at a red light. The rental company kept trying to go thru my insurance lol it was so satisfying telling them to kick rocks because I actually paid for the dumb insurance.
As an Enterprise Empolyee we still pursue your personal insurance and take your deductible, we don’t care about credit card coverage, you do that on your own accord not ours
@@bobcatsfan65 lmao as an enterprise employee in NY I’ve seen this first hand and worst of all the denial came in the form of the credit card rep saying no we don’t cover that on loud speaker lol 3,500 dollars worth of damages
On the other hand, you won’t be liable for any damage. The amount of headache you have to go through to put a claim especially with a rental car is annoying and isn’t worth it. It’s peace of mind that if anything happen you just walk away. It’s 100% worth it.
Not all credit cards or insurance companies cover loss of use, administrative fees and the fact that your premiums may go up. I would opt in for the DW.
You didn’t mention loss of use and liability insurance, most cards if not all do not have that. Basically check with your insurance on these. Also if this is a business rental will your personal ins cover? What about vehicles larger than 8 passenger? Those transit 12 pax are popular with large groups. Cards don’t cover them. Better be safe than sorry.
Yeah bro I work at enterprise , this explanation is terrible. Don’t forget to check if your insurance covers loss of use and don’t be surprised if your insurance increases your policy
Here’s better advice. ALWAYS travel with a copy of your insurance declaration page regardless if it’s through your car insurance or credit card. Car rental companies want to make money and the latest trick I’ve seen is where they ask to see your declaration page (electronic or paper, whatever floats your boat). Of course the average person doesn’t have it nor are they able to find it online so they’re essentially “forced” to pay out of pocket for additional insurance they already have. Safe travels y’all!
I have my personal insurance setup to be able to drive any car, regardless of who owns it, with full collision, maxed out for everything else including uninsured driver, passenger, property, etc and I have a $100 deductible. Covers me in a car worth up to $150k. My wife and I together are $130 a month lol I do have some rental insurance on the credit card I rent with too, but I don’t rely on it. It’s a back up.
You still would have to pay everyday that the car is in the shop and not being rented regardless and the added insurance is so that if you get in a accident with the rental but still need a rental, the rental agency will give you another vehicle no questions asked and you won’t be paying a deductible on the accident you had on the rental through your insurance.
Same things with cell phones. They will reimburse you if your phone is stolen. Thats why phone companies want you to use a debit card for a discount but if you use a credit card they wont. They do it so u can buy their insurance
You have to pay everything out of your pocket and wait for the insurance to reimburse and remember you are not in the same country and this will take time and stress you out. I always take full insurance for ease of mind and if I book the car online I do it without the online insurance, take the insurance directly from the supplier and you will not pay an extra penny
I'd call them/your broker and ask what exactly your coverage on rentals is if I were you. Personally I just buy the waiver when I rent stuff but that's just me. Never done damage to a rental (well maybe burned a bit of the tires off :) but the day it happens I don't want to deal with my personal insurance
Guys, I have a lots of questions, let's say I want to rent a car from Houston texas to new york, let's say I pay $40 daily for the rent, so the company is going to charge me per mile, correct?
You forgot to mention, loss of use the company will charge, no DC or personal insurance covers that, and most DC now don't cover car rentals,. If your drive a beater with pip, that insurance will do nothing on a rental. Scrap advice here
I found what mine covers online. I just googled it and found a PDF. For instance search "chase Mastercard rental car insurance" or whatever your financial instituting and card type
Not necessarily, credit card companies don’t cover for uninsured or underinsured motorists or liability if you hit a 3rd party. So if you get into an accident that’s your fault or someone hits you that’s not fully insured, you aren’t getting reimbursed plus you insurance policy goes up either way when you get into an accident whether you are at fault or not. Credit cards don’t reimburse you for you monthly policy going up for 6 months. In the long run, you are still paying more when you could just pay the protections at the rental car place. I work in insurance so I know…
If something happens to the vehicle and it needs to be towed, your credit card company won't cover that. They also won't cover tires. This video is misleading. Call your credit card company to find out exactly what it covers when you have a rental.
@@Capncook904 nah bro, I travel all around the world and never paid over $14 a day for rental car insurance. I just left Sydney, Australia two weeks ago and even tho I didn't rent a car I do know it wasn't $40 a day for rental car insurance there.

@@odell2970depends on what car you rent and where you are, apparently. Especially Spain (Balearic Islands, Canaries) seems to be quite expensive, likely due to stuff happening all the time there.
Not good advice. Primary goes to your insurance and card acts as a secondary but it’s not end all be all. Still have to file a claim, premiums still likely go up and any kind of towing charging 99% of the time would not be covered. Not to mention that insurance policies and credit card can vary greatly, so exactly what’s covered and what type of vehicle you were driving could lead to minimal help from insurance. Always take the rental insurance if you can afford it but stick with your own liability and other stuff
Even if your credit card has insurance, you the rental company will still charge you and you have to wait for the reimbursement from the credit card company. Personally thats too much of a hassle for me so i’d opt for the zero liability coverage.
It's best to have peace of mind, just pay for the extra coverage. It's like trying to save $20 on a connection flight instead of flying direct then ended up wasting your whole day, not worth it.
Car insurance doesn’t cover rental cars lol. The rental car coverage you pay for on your policy is if you’re in an accident and you need a rental because of said accident. 99% of credit card coverage only goes into effect after you’ve expended your liability of your auto insurance policy.
Not quite. AMEX card has the option for premium rental coverage, which works as a primary insurance only for $19 per rental period vs $40 per day they ask at rentals.
Have fun dealing with your insurance and rates on your card. It's a bigger scam then just spending the amount to sign a paper and get on with your day.
Except when your car insurance jacks up your rate after you have a claim…happened once and I’ll never do it again. I get the cdw and liability and then nothing comes after me or my insurance
Yup 100% not going to end well if that happend. Don't lend your personal vehicle to someone who doesn't have a vehicle and insurance policy with full coverage of their own either. Say I don't have a policy and I borrow your car and wreck it in an at fault collision, your insurance will cover it and you will have to pay your deductible. If I have a policy with full coverage and I borrow someone's vehicle and wreck it my policy covers their vehicle.
And always check your contract after you leave the facility. Some car rental reps are assholes and will still add their insurance without you noticing it and you will have a hard time trying to get a refund.

Florida speaking here..I’m in collision and you would be shocked how many times I’ve seen 18-20 yr olds not being able to get a rental even though the insurance company takes their money every month for coverage for a rental car in case of a collision. Such bs man…I’ve seen young adults who aren’t 21 yet who have no family in the area simply stuck! Had to Uber everywhere even though they paid for that exact coverage.
I got hit by another car when i was driving. The other driver's insurance is paying for the damages but Enterprise wants me to pay admin costs and loss of use of the car.
Shame your credit card wont save you from an arrest when Hertz say you stole the car you rented.
ALWAYS pay for the damage waver.
Chase Sapphire Reserve offers primary coverage 💃🏽
As an Enterprise Empolyee we still pursue your personal insurance and take your deductible, we don’t care about credit card coverage, you do that on your own accord not ours
@@bobcatsfan65 we would say the same at hertz man and people still wanted to be dumb and find out the hard way
@@bobcatsfan65 lmao as an enterprise employee in NY I’ve seen this first hand and worst of all the denial came in the form of the credit card rep saying no we don’t cover that on loud speaker lol 3,500 dollars worth of damages
Remember if anything happens then you get screwed with your insurance. You will get a point if you caused the accident
On the other hand, you won’t be liable for any damage. The amount of headache you have to go through to put a claim especially with a rental car is annoying and isn’t worth it. It’s peace of mind that if anything happen you just walk away. It’s 100% worth it.
💯
If you don't already have car insurance, you wont have liability coverage FYI. Credit cards only cover you for collision.
They then proceed to accuse you of stealing their cars. 😂
I know right 😅😅😅
Not all credit cards or insurance companies cover loss of use, administrative fees and the fact that your premiums may go up.
Bullshit I was went to bank and show this to found out it’s real or not I swear the bank member laughed and said big NO 😂
Yeah bro I work at enterprise , this explanation is terrible. Don’t forget to check if your insurance covers loss of use and don’t be surprised if your insurance increases your policy
Master Card Black doesn’t cover 3rd party’s damages.
What about when my insurance doesn't cover rentals outside of the US?
My wife and I together are $130 a month lol
I do have some rental insurance on the credit card I rent with too, but I don’t rely on it.
Check with your insurance to be sure but if they do go for it. Declining the coverage on an 11 day rental with Dollar saved me $800.
Amex covers $75k up to 100k as primary coverage. Depending on your card it could cost you $15 for 40 days of coverage. Varies per card
I have Amex premium car rental protection, just a flat fee (up to 42 days consecutive rental period) for around $20 for the rental duration
Don't listen to this guy make sure you check with your policy.
Do I have to call my insurance company to get insurance for the rental or is it automatic
Scrap advice here
What ever you do DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM HERTZ… Ever for any reason
All credit cards ? What should I ask my cc Leander to know if they cover ?
I work in insurance so I know…
Pay the insurance and deductibles in case of damage, and do the reclamation to your credit card insurance with the final invoice from rental car
If something happens to the vehicle and it needs to be towed, your credit card company won't cover that. They also won't cover tires. This video is misleading. Call your credit card company to find out exactly what it covers when you have a rental.
Lots of eclusions when it comes to credit cards and personal car insurance. Peace of mind by using rental companies coverage.
$40 you don’t have to worry about insurance premiums going up if you’re at fault
I for buying extra insurance for a rental, however I never seen one for $40 a day. That's extremely high 😂
Those are the new modern prices
How about renting in turkey??
Is always better to have the full cover directly with the company when is renting a car…..if I am in holiday I don’t want worry about anything!!!!!!
I checked my personal insurance they said nope😮
The credit card will NOT cover anything.
Even if your credit card has insurance, you the rental company will still charge you and you have to wait for the reimbursement from the credit card company. Personally thats too much of a hassle for me so i’d opt for the zero liability coverage.
Came to watch a video on fraser, danced instead 😡.
It's best to have peace of mind, just pay for the extra coverage. It's like trying to save $20 on a connection flight instead of flying direct then ended up wasting your whole day, not worth it.
my credit card does not cover insurance or their insurance policy so not too sure what this guy is talking about 🤷 anyways, I have a bus pass 💀
Don’t pay the extra money. Just use your American Express that’s all. You are good to go. If you don’t have an American Express. Then just pay 😂
Have fun dealing with your insurance and rates on your card. It's a bigger scam then just spending the amount to sign a paper and get on with your day.
Loss of use
Except when your car insurance jacks up your rate after you have a claim…happened once and I’ll never do it again. I get the cdw and liability and then nothing comes after me or my insurance
He definitely doesn’t know what he’s talking about , why tf would your insurance not take your deductible for one
And fyi the insurance that car rental companies offer is optional
What if you don’t have insurance and then get into an accident then you will end up paying the whole damage cost
Get ready for those raised rates, possibly even dropped as a client
And always check your contract after you leave the facility. Some car rental reps are assholes and will still add their insurance without you noticing it and you will have a hard time trying to get a refund.
Happens to me, I have to pay $500 deductible, so now when I rent a car for roadtrip, I have to get their insurance to be worried free.
Exactly agree with you! Holiday is worried free 😎😎
People go on holiday so of course spend the money. No money better not holiday then cheapskates holiday, just got headache.
If you can deny the coverage. It’s obviously elective.
Let me tell you I work im customer service and I cant count how many times customers come up with shit like this cause there trying to be smart or cheap and end up crying and bitching cause their credit card or insurance did not want to cover damage expenses
Chase bank credit card cover full cover for rentals, your welcome
How much will your insurance cover though? If you drive into someone’s Mercedes Benz and it costs 50,000 in repairs.
Then your insurance only covers 30,000 your screwed then.
Incorrect ‼️ Not all insurance carriers will carry over to a rental....🤟
Make sure to read fine prints. Ontario man just got his ram 1500 stolen and cc company refused to pay as it didn't have the coverage f9r stolen cars. He's stuck with 82k candian dollars
What credit card?
Always get the rental insurance
Not all credit cards cover rental car insurance only select cards do, so please do your own personal research and pay with the card that has rental coverage.
That doesn’t apply to everyone. Please educate yourself about you’re insurance before listening to this guy
Some cards offer primary insurance on rentals, meaning you don't even need to involve your personal car insurance.
If you’re 18 you can’t rent a car, you have to be 21years of age or older. What a dumb ass law.
So they are penalizing me even though it wasn't my fault. Fuck them, I'm never using them again and having my union drop them from using them again.
Additional 40 dollars a day? lol more like 10-15 my dood. The car itself costs more like 40$ a day not the insurance…
your insurance company wont cover the money they lose for not renting it out
