Pretty good job, Dan. Pity about the silvering-one way to deal with this is to smear some Tamiya Extra Thin on the offending areas to dissolve them. Go easy on the amount as you don't want to dissolve the paint, but I've found it an effective way to mostly fix the problem. To avoid the issue, always apply a gloss clear coat before you apply the decals.

Gloss coat is not needed in my opinion. Have done both over the years and silvering will occur with both. My suspicion is silvering is caused by lack of adhesive.

Outstanding work. I've never seen a wash sprayed through an airbrush before, that's a great idea!

Thank you, it can be a little extreme but it does get the wash down in all the right areas.

Hi Dan, the Me-109 turned out perfectly, you were certainly persistent with the decals, I would have tjought being Eduard they would have been better, congratulations on a job very well done, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les

Thanks, a little bit surprised by the Eduard decals. I'll have to buy some more to experiment - at least that will be my excuse.

Nice job Dan, don't beat yourself up over the decals, they don't look that bad! I do find that a gloss clear coat helps when decaling over water/alcohol based acrylics but not necessary over laquers when sprayed wet. Anyway good to see a plane again even if it was large scale!Take care man.

Thanks Worden. I've not done a gloss before decals for many years, and put decals down over many surfaces and paints. I personally think silvering is just where the decals adhesive is lacking. I will be experimenting with Tamiya decals adhesive and UMP decal fix soon to gain some more data.

Dont understand how you went wrong with the decals, eduards are the best in the biz. Definitely gloss varnish before hand though.

Thanks, was very surprised myself. However, don't think gloss would change anything.

Were the decals the new Eduard ones with the removable cover film? It is a pain but it is possible to remove the cover film. A quick search here on RUclips will find various ways of removing. I’ve had success with using white spirit.

Sadly not the new ones. The kit is the 2016 boxing so has the normal decals - which are normally good.
