I'm so happy that I saw Television for the first and last time in 2019. I dig your list - nailed it as usual. I'm a massive fan of Costello's first 5 albums. Imperial Bedroom and Blood & Chocolate are quite good as well. I have an excellent Ian Dury compilation but New Boots is a killer album. Really enjoying your vids. Take care

Nice job! I can only wonder if you had to think it thru a couple times before you felt you got the ranking to your satisfaction. Sych a great representation of the old guard, new directions that older bands were voing in and the arrival of punk . A big year of change. Man, that copy of Aja looks brand spankin new! Very cool, cant wait for the next one!

I'm with you on Marquee Moon! I've loved that album since I bought it in 1979. Two years earlier, in March, 1977, I went to my first rock concert: Peter Gabriel on his first post-Genesis solo tour with Television as the opening act. It was a mind-blowing experience for a 10th-grader from a small Michigan town! A great memory. (And "Humdrum" is my favorite track on PG's 1st album.) Thanks for another enjoyable video!

Great list, as usual you cover most of the bases, though I would include a couple of underrated gems by two of my favorite artists, Stick to Me by Graham Parker and the Rumour and Short Eyes by Curtis Mayfield. For the record, Joe Jackson also does an excellent cover of See No Evil on his brilliant album Fast Forward.

I graduated from high school in 1977 from Whitney Point, NY. Bat Out of Hell was a top played album. Once I got into college in 1979 (Buffalo State), I heard more New Wave groups, punk. Yes, for Elvis Costello debut. Yeah for ELO. I agree that Rumors has been played to death - I heard it so much. I will look at the 1977 discography to see if there are more I like.

Possibly my favourite year ever. I could've easily picked 40 albums but these 20 take some beating. Props for including Sleepwalker in your selections. A brilliant album that deserves more acclaim.

Totally agree about Marquee Moon. I had a CD version that included ‘little Johnny jewel on it’. Blew my mind - the album is a masterpiece.
Also, can’t deny the Saturday night fever soundtrack - although I didn’t get into until the late 80s…
Shoes - Black Vinyl Shoes is an album I like better than some of your choices.
Ramones - Leave Home and Modern Lovers - Rock n Roll with the Modern Lovers, are favorites from ‘77 as well.

Quite often I walk past Hammersmith odeon another classic London music haunt . I always think of Bowie doing Ziggy there and Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols going round the back and stealing Bowie mics and PA . Believe me it’s all security now . I saw Steely Dan there twice ! Once saw them at Wembley arena and then the next day at Hammersmith odeon. Punk and the Dan ! Yeah

The biggest surprise here is Kill City over Lust For Life. Dude. I love most things Iggy did, but not that. It's just a demo of him and James trying to drum up label interest for another Stooges album on weekend breaks from the hospital while Iggy was strung out and trying to get it together. The only truly finished and decent song they did, the "I Got a Right" single, isn't even on it. I'd argue Lust for Life is the best thing that came out of the five albums between Iggy and Bowie in Berlin. Agreed on Television of course. The Congos is a hypnotic masterpiece. I get your not liking Wire, but figured you'd like The Saints and The Stranglers.
    Television - Marquee Moon
The Congos - Heart Of The Congos
    Wire - Pink Flag
Electric Light Orchestra - Out Of The Blue
Iggy Pop - Lust For Life
    Fela Kuti - Zombie
    The Saints - (I’m) Stranded
Bob Marley & the Wailers - Exodus
    The Clash - The Clash
    Radio Birdman - Radios Appear
The Stranglers - No More Heroes
Brian Eno - Before And After Science
Richard Hell & the Voidoids - Blank Generation
The Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
    David Bowie - Low
Talking Heads - Talking Heads: 77
    Ramones - Rocket To Russia
The Damned - Damned Damned Damned
The Stranglers - IV Rattus Norvegicus
Elvis Costello - My Aim Is True
    Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation
    Ramones - Leave Home
George Faith - To Be A Lover
    Culture - Two Sevens Clash
Junior Murvin - Police & Thieves
    Peter Tosh - Equal Rights
    The Heptones - Party Time

Great list. Lots of overlap to what I might choose but I would probably add Styx’s Grand Illusion 😂 just kidding. I’d be adding Wire’s Pink Flag near the top, competing with Marquee Moon. I’d also consider Ramones’ Leave Home or Rocket to Russia, Pink Floyd’s Animals and Brian Eno’s Before and After Science (although not his best I love his 70’s output up to Apollo in 1983). Cheers!

and always searched for the unpopular and unknown jewels..
