Just Remeber you can always so NO. I WISH this is something I was told for my first birth. No matter what “rule” or policy the hospital has you can say no to it. Including the food one, if you are hungry, eat. You’re in labor for crying out loud. Eat and keep your energy up.

LMAO I think they try to keep you from eating so you don't poop during birth, considering that vaginal tears are very common, I'm sure they want to minimize risk of infection. So, do with that info what you will.

******Saw a tip for starting to use nipple butter 2 weeks before due date aka now. It’s supposed to help prevent chap and is apparently really helpful to start early BEFORE actual breastfeeding.

Congrats on the upcoming birth! I’m a mom of 3 (10 yo boy, twin 7 yo girls). My advice? Take shampoo and conditioner and body wash. I had a private room with a shower and took my own of all that stuff and was SO glad I did. They had a 3 in 1 soap/conditioner/shampoo that smelled awful. For footwear? I hated socks. Things can be…messy. I wore crocs. Not the most fashionable, but they were grippy so I didn’t slip, and if something got on them, a quick scrub and rinse in the sink and I was good. Maybe bring some stretchy headbands. Even if you pull your hair up in a pony, the little hairs can be the last thing on your nerves, especially when nursing for the first time. Take whatever makeup you think may make you feel good. Even if you don’t use it 😉. After birth, ask for GAP juice (equal parts grape, apple, and prune juice, warmed. Some people put a small pat of butter in it too). This will help things get moving (ahem BM). This was something NOBODY told me about. That first movement was horrible after my first. And it was like 10 days postpartum! Second time around I had the concoction in the hospital, and although a slight challenge, was able to go on like day 2. Sorry for TMI.

A fan would be an amazing thing to bring. I gave birth last November to my first and was very warm and nauseous (fyi peppermint essential oils were a life saver for the nasea!).
Also totally bring with a blanket and pillow of your own. I was so happy I did as it made me so much more comfortable when there!
Labor will be hard but it's mind over body and even when it gets really hard and you think it's going to be impossible to go through without medication focus on your husband and have him talk you through the breathing. Without my husband by my side I would have probably caved and gotten an epidural (not that that's a bad thing I just really didn't want it for myself).
In the end just remember that no matter what happens it's a beautiful process. You got this moma!!!

Oh, and get a nipple shield because if baby is having a hard time latching, that can help keep you from having trauma to your nipples. That helped with two of my babies. Every baby is different, so it doesn’t hurt to have them in case. Also, try the “football hold” on the side that is your writing hand. That was a game changer for me with all my babies after #1. For me it was easier to get baby to latch on my left side because I had my right hand free (my writing hand) but I had a hard time on my right side because my left hand was so awkward. So I did the football hold in my right arm.

Just had my little girl two weeks ago so things are fresh in my mind. Always thin pads that are for overnight were my saving grace for postpartum after I got home, thick pads made me feel like I was wearing a diaper. Pillows and blankets for sure. Snacks are great to have especially if you deliver in the middle of the night like I did.

I'm so excited!! I cannot wait to "meet" your little guy! I just had mine 5 weeks ago, so it's fresh what I brought with me
    To bring:
    - Snacks and drinks for sure! We (my hubby) really liked cheese sticks and go-go squeezes in particular.
    - a fine tooth comb or 2. You can squeeze the comb in your hand for pain management during contractions. I bought some from the dollar tree.
    - a water bottle with a straw. I labored on my hands and knees all night, so Mom just held up the bottle so I could drink.
    - I would recommend putting your hair in a french braid before you go to the hospital. That worked great for me, and I left it like that for 2 days no problem.
    - for the pillows and blankets, a laundry basket/fabric hamper works great for transporting them. No shame at all in bringing those!
    - bring a pacifier or two. I ended up needing one every time we changed his diaper. Or he sucked on our finger in a pinch.
    - bring some body soap, too. I did shower before I left the hospital, and wish I had brought some of my own soap. Oh! A bigger bath towel, too. Something luxurious. The hospital ones are small and scratchy.
    - for the baby nail file, YES. I have an electric one that works great from Amazon. It's like a mini Dremel tool.
To take home from the hospital:
    - 2 or 3 containers of Tucks. You will use a ton, and they are expensive so let insurance pay for them ☺️.
    - 2 or 3 cans of dermaplast
    - extra mesh underwear. The depends were awesome for the first 3 or 4 days, then I just needed a pad but still didn't want to have to do laundry just for underwear or worry about leaking and the mesh ones worked great for that interim.
    - more peri bottles. I needed 2 or 3 full bottles EACH time I used the bathroom. The ones from the hospital worked fine and the angle was not an issue for me. Pro tip: spray the bottle WHILE you are going, not just after. It helps dilute the urine. Drinking lots of water does, too. That is why you need more than one, though.
    - the hospital has quilted waterproof covers on the bed. Take 3 of those home. They are AWESOME for your bed. Nursing is messy in the beginning, and it's no fun to have to change all the sheets just for a spot.
    - if you need a nipple shield, make sure to ask for more than one. They are clear and hard to find at night.
    - Definitely meet with the lactation consultant before you leave the hospital. Ask them to check for a tongue/lip tie and pick their brain of all the nursing positions. They are awesome people!
I hope this helps! I am praying for a peaceful birth, a speedy recovery, and wisdom and strength for Jacob as he serves as your advocate and rock. ❤️

It depends on the hospital as far as bringing snacks for you two. However, if you bring some bulk snacks for the nursing staff that could help your odds. Labor and Delivery nurses are incredible and bringing them some goodies can’t hurt! As far as pillows, I didn’t mind the hospital ones for myself but a nursing pillow (my favorite was the My Brest Friend one because it connects around you so it is very supportive for your back. I didn’t personally like the boppy for that reason) is incredibly helpful to have. That would be my one bulky thing. The frida mom collection is awesome, that peri bottle made a big difference. Good luck and happy birth!

Personally, I didn’t take blankets or pillows for me. I used the hospital grippy socks. I packed a comfortable maternity outfit that I loved for going home. Yes on the birth plan…no episiotomy! If you don’t have a midwife, make sure that the doctor/nurses know that you want to do as much stretching (perineal massage) of the skin as possible so that you won’t need an episiotomy. And we also “pulsed the cord” with all of our kids which just allows for all of the good cord blood to get into the baby before the cord is cut.

  • @logicresearch9849
    @logicresearch9849 2 года назад +1

A donut pillow and dermablast healing spray were my most important items after having an episiotomy. I put the spray in each bathroom at home also.

Get the fan. I wish I had one! I was so hot, I had a fever at some point and they were worried baby would be born with a fever, since he was still inside me and my body temperate was so high.
Everything worked out fine, so if you don’t have one you and baby will be fine. But from my experience, I think it would be nice to have. And you’re moving to Florida, you will definitely use it on babies stroller there!

Hi Abby, I just gave birth about one month ago to my first. I was at the hospital at around 5 in the morning and didn’t have my baby until almost 6 that evening. Even though I was at the hospital for a little over 12 hours before giving birth, there was nothing I needed out of my hospital bag. All that I had on my mind was the pain and meeting my little girl. My situation was different than most as far as after delivery, as my baby and I both were transported to another hospital and she was admitted to the NICU for five days. She was all that was on my mind while we were there, so I didn’t require much after delivery either while we were staying at the hospital. The only things I used from my bag were my pajamas, my toiletries, my grippy socks, and a few snacks. I was so exhausted that the pillows and blankets didn’t bother me at all, I could’ve slept anywhere I believe lol. I didn’t sleep for two nights before going into labor, because I was having contractions those two nights prior. I was happy to have brought less with me to the hospital, especially since we had to be transported and we ended up having to move around a lot after my discharge between home and a place we stayed at in the city the hospital was in while my daughter was in the NICU. Like I said, my situation was very different than most but I don’t see myself changing my minimalist use of things if I ever have another child. All you want to do after giving birth is rest and spend time with your child, nothing else matters. One last thing I would like to add is that we can try our best to prepare for things to go the way we envision them, either mentally or by buying and preparing physical things. Though, things rarely go as planned and that is okay. I’ve had to learn that through our child’s birth. Do the best you can and let the rest go. Ultimately God is in control, and it’s His grace that gets us through.

Hi Abby, I;m so excited for you! Good luck!
    1. Before buying the fan call the OB unit. Some hospitals have fans and if yours have them there is no need to bring it with you. But if they don't definitely bring one with you if you feel like it's going to be helpful.
    2. Bringing makeup bag is also absolutely ok. It's about you feeling good after giving birth. If you want to leave hospital having some makeup it;s perfectly fine. It's not anyone else's business, it's all about you feeling good at that moment.
    3. As a person who spent quite a lot of time in hospitals I can say that the pillows are quite nice. But maybe since I live in Europe our healthcare system generally tends to be better. But bringing your own blanket is not a bad idea. Especially the small ones just make you more comfortable.
    4. Also bring pads with you if the hospital doesn't provide them.

At least at the hospital I used to work at, there were rolling carts for people to use when they left, so you can take home LOTS of stuff. As a nurse I definitely recommend your own blanket, but the pillows aren’t too bad and you can ask for as many as you want!!

Bring your own pillow, but make sure that you have a non-white pillowcase so that you know it yours. I don’t think blankets are necessary. I had two winter babies and never felt like I didn’t have enough blankets. Also, it’s commons to sweat a lot after having a baby.

Absolutely bring makeup and regular clothes (nursing friendly). All five of my deliveries were natural and uncomplicated and I felt pretty great afterwards. I wore pajamas after my first was born and I was kind of uncomfortable. I don't normally just hang out in pajamas during the day. I wanted things that would help me feel back to normal and myself.

You might appreciate some essential oil rollerballs that are calming or uplifting. Things can get crazy if unexpected things happen and even the happiest mom in the world can crash emotionally with PP hormones in those first few days. If you bring a plushy robe you won't need a blanket. You have all the stuff. Prepare emotionally for anything.

It's such an exciting time for y'all! I try and tell every expecting momma about Depends, I used them and they were soo much better than the pads/undies the hospital provided! And I would recommend cheap flip-flops for the shower at the hospital also. As for sleep, even with all the things you bring to help, don't expect great sleep in the hospital. Not even because of the baby either, they send someone in every 2 hours to check your vitals over night and you have to be awake for that (at least in my hospital that's how they did it) and it was the worst part about being there after having a baby and being exhausted.

I have never had a child, but I have spent many times in the hospital for chronic issues. Don't bring a pillow unless you can be sure it can be washed and sterilized after. Blankets are easier to clean so that would be ok. Personally the hospital beds are very uncomfortable so try to spend as little time in hospital as you have to. The nice thing is that the beds are adjustable so you can play around with the position to find what works best for you.

Birth safe and comfortable at home. If not able to be prepared to advocate STRONGLY for yourself in hospital. Your body, your baby, your choice. Beware medical coersion, know your rights, ask what is happening and what options are available. Demand for privacy if you wish, tell them your birth plan, tell them you will not be separated from baby. Don't ask for permission for your own baby and body, DEMAND what is your right instead. Remember to speak UP. Anyone coming with you to help with your birth should know your wishes and advocate on your behalf as well. Hospital policy is NOT THE LAW. Good luck sisters.

Can you do a follow up video regarding the things you bought but didn’t need to use because the hospital covered / or took care of it? ALSO my advice regarding lip balm, use the nipple ointment on lips instead. I was given this advice when I had seasonly cracked lips, Lip balms mask a film of product over your lips. But nipple ointments for cracked nipples work the same on your lips and actually go into your lips to moisturize them instead of creating a film of moisture that doesn’t actually heal your lips. I use lanolin on my lips !! They are soo healthy and buttery smooth

Hi Abby! You can always call the Labor & Delivery Unit or ask your OB if they have fans. Our hospital had a nice one for labor and throughout our stay (luckily it was perfect because I can’t even sleep without a fan). I didn’t have to get one for the hospital at all and it was so nice! Yes to pillows and blankets! It helps if you get anxious and makes you feel more at home! Definitely bring your pump and a boppy pillow, my L&D unit told me to bring a boppy because the lactation consultant could me so many different positions and techniques. Glad I did because the pillow helped sooooo much to make it more comfortable for those sometimes awkward feeding positions! A lot of the nurses may be a licensed lactation consultant and help you with your new pump too :) good luck and can’t wait to see the little one! We aren’t too far behind you with #2!

You shouldn't need a water bottle, the hospital normally supplies you with a hard mug/lid, and reusable straw.

I also drove myself to the hospital because I thought they were gonna turn me away again from not progressing because I had been having contractions for 2 days before giving birth

Be prepared but you will be going through your moment. Babies don't need fans or nipple butter for the first time. They do it naturally and let it be that way. Trust me.

Also, your hospital will have dermoplast and pads and if you ask, will send you home with more so no need to bring your own!

How can you possibly think it's okay to preach to women about modesty when we've all seen those photos of you on the internet? Were you dressed modestly when you took them?

??? Are you referencing the baby shower photos, where she was fully covered? She’s a new mother, and the pregnancy hormones made her chest grow. Having large breasts doesn’t make someone immodest.
