I took all those pictures of the 6-ft Enterprise D shooting model when it was on display at the Skirball Center California (for a Paul Allen collection show) in February 2022. The pictures out there of this model from the Christie's Auction (where Paul Allen bought it for like a half million dollars) were few and taken under strange lighting. It is worth noting that the 6-footer was repainted for the Generations film, so it has some differences from the television series.
You guys are great together! The model chemistry just roles off the screen!!! Plus you two have the patience of angels masking all those windows!!! LOL Phil you are moving at lightning speed with this model! Truly impressive! I can't wait to see her finished!
The dynamic duo together again ! this is such an entertaining show , not that many of us will build this kit but just seeing the methods and solutions to challenges is fantastic thanks to you both 😀
Hi Phil. Great to see you and Lou having fun together. I don't think you have done yourself any favours by light blocking the interiors with matt black. This is likely why you are suffering from dim windows on the periphery. If I need to use "flood" lighting like this I tend to light block with silver paint. It is just as good as black for blocking light but then reflects the light around rather than absorbing and killing it as black does. I often put a mist of matt white over the silver to give a better white balance and minimise hot spots. You are really making life difficult for yourself with version 1 of an epic sized model! All credit to you for your patience and perseverance 👍👏
A fine part four, Laurel and Hardy of the modelling fraternity take on the D... Chaining the poor boy to the bench, shame on you! 😆 Nice work on the phaser section and pinning your nacelles - Onwards to the 'Intermission'
Looking great so far! I'm enjoying this a lot. You and Lou need to have a video series together on the regular. You guys are great together. Very cool work on the Enterprise-D. She's turning out really cool. Can't wait to see more! Keep up the great work!
Looking great Phil. I think the Phaser doesn't always have the chase effect so I think your number of LEDs are different from the number Helios expected, excellent update as always.
Phil like a "Black Hole" the black light blocking -light blocks good but it also Absorbs the light as well,to get the light to spread you need to put a flat white coat of paint on the inside of the whole model. Then, you will get a better sense of how your lighting is going and whether you need to add or even subtract lighting. This is what I have learnt from watching modellers of standing like -Boyd Crompton-Lou-and many others. But having said this it's just my opinion and it's your model and you do your thing. I am liking the construction so far it's impressive.
Uncle Lou!!! 😄 Great build to follow I am enjoying it. I saw on Tested that there is a Warp Core kit that you can print out and it even has parts for lighting from the interior, that would make a great companion piece for this.
Fantastic Video, love your inner phaser colar, great idea and nice to see Lou here again, fantastic team :-) Thank you Phil, soon i build the 1/460 USS EXCELSIOR from Helios, i am very excited , unfortunatelly you don`t build this too
Always fun seeing you two together! And yeah I'm starting to worry about that central support as well. Wonder if I could epoxie so metal bars to the side to strengthen it?
Is it just me or whenever you see that model saucer laid out on the table top do you get flashbacks to when was skidding to a halt on surface of Veridian III as well..?
I'm just wondering if the Pylons will be able to support the weight of the nacelles when they're fully assembled? Was great to see Lou in your shop and you two working together on this. Good fun, guys. I am looking forward to the next video.
@sprueVerse That's what I was wondering. They seem pretty thin, and I could see them flexing each time you flipped it over with just a half piece of Nacelle attached.
Excellent progress on the build Phil. A quick question, when you run the phaser effect does it light up both the top and bottom phaser strip at the same time? I look forward to the next part in the series.
Hey I Have a question for Lou the expert on Aztec paint mask for the star trek ship Azrec paint mask. My question is Lou have you ever seen a set of photo-etch Aztec paint mask for the reliant 1/640scale and how is the best way to use them?

Ah, the Dynamic Duo at their finest. Another enjoyable video, thanks Phil! Lou, those masks are just pluckin' marvelous! 🤣🤣🤣

You two are putting out INCREDIBLE INFORMATION on this kit. I hope batch 3 comes out. And I can get ahead start.

Wait till you see the finished version! I promise you it will make sense.

Aha! The magnificent duo at work! Nice to see you both!

I really enjoy both Lou's & yours camaraderie while sharing your tips/progress over the Enterprise. Enjoy your time guys 🖖🖖🖖
Looking great Phil. I think the Phaser doesn't always have the chase effect so I think your number of LEDs are different from the number Helios expected, excellent update as always.
Great to see Lou and you together in the workshop, I love watching your builds... Always enjoy seein the work progress to the finished model.
Great to see Lou in the shop with Phil! Together you guys should be able to overcome anything.

That is true for certain applications - I assure you this model packs a punch and that would make the light unrealistic in my opinion.
Watching this as I myself am starting to place down window masks on the thing!
More modelling goodness with the Phil and Lou Show!

Great to see you guys back working on another great project

Hey! I’ve got the 1/460 Excelsior coming as well. I cannot wait for it to arrive!
Total Awesomeness
Great video. Cool seeing Lou there again.
I would paint the edge black with some glossy black and then mask the rim windows.
Amazing videos as always... 2 Masters
Always fun seeing you two together! And yeah I'm starting to worry about that central support as well. Wonder if I could epoxie so metal bars to the side to strengthen it?
I don’t think so.
yeah! free labor!
I thought the space station had loads of masked windows. This has million times more 😮
Is it just me or whenever you see that model saucer laid out on the table top do you get flashbacks to when was skidding to a halt on surface of Veridian III as well..?
Lou: "That's a serif." Phil: "I didn't know you were religious." And that's why I was looking forward to this episode. That and "Pina Colatta." 😂
I'm just wondering if the Pylons will be able to support the weight of the nacelles when they're fully assembled? Was great to see Lou in your shop and you two working together on this. Good fun, guys. I am looking forward to the next video.
Actually, the pylons are the lightest part of this kit!
@sprueVerse That's what I was wondering. They seem pretty thin, and I could see them flexing each time you flipped it over with just a half piece of Nacelle attached.
What a massive model! This is gonna be great! Please unchain Lou so you can take your act on the road! 😅
Lou sent me, lots of insrtion here on a huge kit, was wondering how to glue the halves together and what you used
This kit will be all two part epoxy.
Excellent progress on the build Phil. A quick question, when you run the phaser effect does it light up both the top and bottom phaser strip at the same time? I look forward to the next part in the series.
Hi, the phaser effect for top is on a separate activation button and operates independently of the bottom.🖖

Please email Lou your question. Aztekdummy@att.net
Feed and water him if he looks dehydrated.
why didn't you paint the inside white? That would have helped illuminate the lights more evenly.
Actually that isn’t the issue - I’m looking for a more subtle light source and I’m more than bright enough now.
Cool model... Pity it is not very well engineered
