    Ok, but when I look at “Japanese girl suicide drawing” I can’t stop seeing her eyebrows inverting in and her eyes squinting a bit like she’s mad at me. It really does creep me out.
    The entry on Tomino’s Hell is really depressing. “I Can Never Be A Bride” in anime is used as a joke when a cute anime girl has to do something that compromises her purity. In real life, it’s way darker and usually involves a woman being violated. That broke my heart to hear.

    On the “Tomino’s Hell” or the actual title of the painting “I can’t become a bride anymore” (rough translation) it’s a phrase I’ve seen used usually as a joke in media when a girl/women is seen naked etc by a man/boy. This is pretty much based in purity culture and that a women’s “purity” or body should only be seen by someone she is going to marry/her husband. Therefore if a random guy has seen her naked she is “not pure”. It’s fucked up and is definitely in reference to the artists own trauma about being sexually abused.

      It's probably a mix of the eyes looking like that of a predator triggering an instinct to flee and the fact it's a recognisably human face but distorted. Humans will naturally try to avoid other humans who look injured/sick probably as a survival mechanism, though as a result of this it can be difficult for some to rationalise in their head something like a burn victim isn't a threat just because they look different.

Except, they wouldn't burn. I watched as they literally, jumped or floated away from the flames. The art was done with oil pastels. Go figure!!! Years later, I did a couple of commissions. The guy said he couldn't hang them up, when his gf was there, coz she was a Baptist!!! Seriously!?!?! I'm a really kind, upbeat, positive person. Older and wiser now but wtf. Art is art. Yes, it was because it wasn't hung properly, but that shit scared me as a kid.

    Here is some more context for the “crying boy painting”.
    The rumor of the curse likely was formed out of multiple claims from people finding a painting of the crying boy unaffected by the flames after their house burned down. This is because it belonged to an at the time popular reproduced series. And the explanation as far as i know of why the paintings were fire proof was apparently a side effect of the cheap varnish top layer used during the production of the paintings.

    So maybe traumathon can help me find this old video
    It was around and fairly popular in 2009 2010ish, it was an old video about this guy opening his attic door, peering inside, he pans around, and you see a head hide behind some boxes, there was a part 2 where they call this lady to draw the spirit for them, and I remember you could see the painting in the reflection of a glass door, and i cant remember but i think he checked in the attic again. It had this creepy atmosphere and it always scared me but no matter how much I try I just cant seem to remember the name of the video

    I noticed that a lot of these images claim to have stuff happened when you stare at them long enough.
    I've stared at stuff for long periods of time and weird stuff can happen with basically anything. You would think it's moving, or distorting, but really, it's just your eyes kinda going in and out of focus. That's also why it's good to take breaks from the computer/phone every now and again. Your eyes are straining, and sometimes, you don't even realize that they are.
    As a side note, the only picture I believe is haunted is the Anguished Man. The Anguished Man has actual video evidence that it's haunted AND the artist is said to use their own blood to paint. I've seen and heard plenty of ghost stories where if something has blood involved, it's pretty much guaranteed to be haunted, and it's usually not for good reasons.

  • @Whatlander
    @Whatlander 3 года назад +2

    This is the first I've heard about the original crying boy painting being in a fire. From what I understand, the myth arose from the fact that the crying boy prints are flame resistant, and as a result, people started noticing that those specific prints were sometimes found in the aftermath of house fires.
    TBH I'm more bothered by the fact that so many people in the UK were wild about owning this depressing poster.
