Quarantine has me thinking about how I miss being 13 years old. So many of my friends grew out of emo music but I still have special place for it in my heart. I know I sound dramatic.
Im now 29 reminiscing those times, Getting rejected by a girl you like, heartaches and broken promises. Crushes who now have kids and here i am a failure. Wished that i killed myself before getting to this age and be a failure. Anyways ill just pretend im happy seing my crushes and their kids. Hah
I really love this band. Those lyrics are like daggers stabbed to your heart in many ways. Not to mention, the blending of their screams. Are like echoes, sounding to your very soul.
Personally, I like to think that this song is written from the perspective of a WWI soldier (he could be on either side of the war, it really doesn't matter), writing to his love from the trenches while he's away at war. He details the atrocities he's seen in the trenches, as each and every sound of artillery fire is ripping his psyche apart. Meanwhile, perhaps his lover has gotten involved in an affair with another man, so she's stopped writing back to him, leading the singer to question if this love they shared -- or moreover the overall purpose of the war -- was ever worth it. After several months, the singer himself is stabbed by an enemy soldier's bayonet, and with his final breaths he pens a tightly-written letter to his lover, still fearing for her as he slowly dies. Maybe there are some parts of that theory that don't match up well with the song, but at any rate that's just how I perceive it.
