@Der Typ It's different though. We, as viewers, NEED to see him get revenge on the level that killed his run! It's one of the things that sets Ryu apart from GPB and Panga.
It's because the run was meant to end. If God says it ends at level 7.. it will end at level 7 even if he skips 100 times .... that's why hail Mary's usually fail
For the launchers in the clouds level, I think the reason they grouped up was because of how the snowball cannon moved you. It moved back in forth in such a way that other clouds were forced to move back into the vicinity, all to a singular spot.

The synchronisation is the same as the experiment with the metronomes ticking at different beats but when they are on a rolling platform they synchronise! Nice physics :)
This reminds me of the metronomes synchronising when on a moving platform. Since Mario is on a moving platform, which all depend on mario's movement..... I wonder if that math is actually based on some form of oscillation. Maybe a sinus or cosinus of the distance to mario?
I think the clouds follow the screen rather than Mario himself. I think the top cloud just moves back and forth at just the right speed and rhythm to make the lower clouds bunch up via screen movement.
After studying them in slow motion for way longer than I care to admit, I feel comfortable saying I have absolutely no idea how their movement has been programmed. When the camera is not moving they seem to have constant speed for much of the time (i.e. their motion is not sinusoidal), but what they do when the camera moves is very mysterious... they often seem camera-locked, but definitely not always. Camera motion also affects where their turnaround point is on screen, and I've even witnessed camera motion triggering some of them to suddenly reverse direction even though they weren't even remotely near the turnaround point yet. However, regardless of how they work exactly, the mechanism that causes them to bunch up is fairly simple: when the camera is moving fast enough, cannons that are moving in the same direction seem to closely track the camera, i.e. they more or less stay fixed on screen. Therefore, once cannons that are moving in the opposite direction reach their turnaround point on screen they all get "stuck" at or near that screen location.
24:48 I've seen that before. If you ride a cloud moving on its own, in this case because a cannon, other similarly independent clouds at different heights line up with the cloud you're on. I think because they're responding to you but also each other so when you and the cloud have the same movement they are only responding to one factor instead of two
Ryu: Doesn't have a coin while recording a video Ryu: Doesn't think to just go get one since he can edit the delay out Ryu: Uses a video game box to flip Never change, Ryu. Never change.
I don't play SMM2, but I've watched it a great deal. I've noticed that a lot of players have trouble with blowy Joeys, especially if they're trying _not_ to get blown up too high or too quickly. From my observations, I can say with a moderately high degree of confidence that they work like this: If you're moving upward when you enter the stream, you will be shot upward immediately and will go high. If you're moving downward when you enter the stream, there will be a delay before you're shot up, and you won't go as high. So, if trying to avoid going up, in order of most important to least important: Be moving downward as quickly as possible. Be moving forward as quickly as possible. Enter as low as possible. The faster you're falling, the more of a delay there will be, and the faster you're moving forward, the less time you'll spend in the stream. Height of entry just gives you a little breathing room if the obstacle is very low. If you run and jump early, entering shortly before landing, you'll pretty much hover straight across before leaving the stream and falling the rest of the way to the ground. To put it more succinctly, vertical momentum is conserved by ol' Bloseph Joseph.
I dont mind it bc when he does a 5 life hail mary and manages to recover from it and get up to 15 lives thats really cool. Besides it's his vid so his choice in the end
18:01 ryu, you need to go into blowy joey with downward momentum from a jump. If you jump into joey with upward momentum, it will add together a push you into the ball
*At least* 4 hours, and that's not even counting the upload. Adjusting the coin distances and the mechanism. They definitely spent a ton of time on that.
Sometime you Hail Mary, sometimes you Hail Perry. Some days you Hail Gary or Barry or Jerry, but rarely Hail Larry. And under no circumstance do you Hail Joseph.
the level that was a 1-1 copy with the floating blasters was roughly the same principle as the youtube videos where they rest multiple metronomes on a board that can roll back and forth. sitting on the high up blaster with it's swaying motion helped to synchronize all of the other motion. theoretically if you were able to maintain position on any of the blasters it would have the same effect.

Ryu, what you need to do is just have a threshold. If your at 8 lives you can skip but ONLY after attempting the level. And i would define "attempting the level" to be "you saw the flagpole (or equivalent). And if your at 4 lives but you used 4 lives to attempt beating the level then you can skip, and hopefully skipping because there's a terrible part of the level your having difficulty with and not "oh no i died on this random spike that was placed at the beginning of the level. Wow that last jump to get the top of the flagpole in the spike bell level was diabolical
You must jump up and then enter the joey as you fall with downward momentum. This allows you to get through it without a full upward gust.
So you basically just have a single skip you can use at any point on crazy difficult or hot garbage levels.
