** Piece Descriptions **
1. Hangari Set
It is a Korean traditional earthenware used for storing and fermenting food since the Joseon Dynasty. The Hangari serves as a remembrance of their home in Korea. The set is complete with lids to symbolize the uncovering of their stories and the revelation of this significant part of Korean history. The Hangari is also engraved with butterflies along the sides of the Hangari.
2. Two Royal Pedestal Dishes with Lids
These dishes, traditionally used to serve the royal family as a gesture of respect, are intended as a formal offering of respect to the Comfort Women. Butterflies are engraved on the lids, and each dish features butterfly-shaped handles.
3. Butterfly Plates
It is a piece consisting of four individual plates. Each plate represents a wing, and when joined together, they form a complete butterfly. This design symbolizes the unity of the Comfort Women and their supporters. The Butterfly Plates highlight the importance of connection and harmony in raising awareness and fostering solidarity for their cause.
