    This is the happiest moment in the history of tennis:
    1) 21 grand slams, finally surpassing Federer and Novak of course.

Rafa also makes me so proud of him of being an amazing human being, always do or say the right thing. I just don’t know why but the first time I watched him play at RG in 2004 and he won, I knew right away that was it, he was going to be a player that I like and root for as long as he plays .Here i m today i m still his hardcore fan . @Ian Novak Who are the great players who believe this? Novak? Before Sampras, Borg was considered to be among the best - the idea of having to capture all the Slams to be in the discussion of the greatest was simply not there - after a few years the current standard will change as well .. each great player in each era has achieved something unique and great which can be used to justify that they are the best ever.. so it's one or two or three stars in each era whom can be considered to be at top of their game for that era.. The time period matters as well.. in fact arguably Federer is in a slightly different era (if you use a 5 year period) compared to Nadal who is sandwiched between both Federer and Djokers eras..

      People tend to forget, that Nadal peaked earlier in his career and that his play in the last 10 year was already influenced by old injurys. He has problems with his shoulder for over 10 years now, which influenced his serve a lot (His serves were a lot faster back then). Some people seem to think that Nadal not having played any competitive matches for six months was supposed to be a huge disadvantage for him, but I think that taking time off and letting his body rest properly actually helped him a lot during this AO. I mean it's not like Rafa was going to suddenly forget how to play great tennis. His overall playing level, experience and instincts are still way better than 99% of his opponents even if he doesn't play for a long time. But coming into this AO fresh and rested was a big bonus for him, plus playing that warm up tournament (and winning it) in Melbourne on the same court helped him too. He should try to repeat the same pattern before next year's AO. He's not 25 anymore, so he really needs to give his body time to recuperate between seasons/tournaments.

      Yep, at 35 it was really big for Rafa to come to the AO having not played for 6 months because despite not having matches and dealing with the foot injury it gave his body time to rest and reduce chance of injury elsewhere. The AO is where he's been injured multiple times, e.g. 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2018.

    • @aha3885
      @aha3885 2 года назад +4

      I mean, the perfect fit requires a certain regularity on the court. Five matches in nine months it's a litle bit short. Rafa is able to compite in the worst situation, three days before his trip to Melbourne he called his cousin Joan, Toni's son, to prove some efforts in his left foot. He still felt some pain. Three days before. Off course you are right about getting some rest before París. But I'm afraid it's impossible. Rafa loves to play in Spain, and Spain adores Rafa. His matches are national treasures. And ATP 500 Barcelona and Masters 1000 Madrid had two of his best buddies as directors, Ferru and Feli. David Ferrer and Feliciano López. Rafa will never turn his back on them, or their tournaments. So if he is healthy, he'll play Conde de Godó for sure, and Masters 1000 Madrid for sure. And probably Montecarlo and Rome.

    "Don't be fooled. [Nadal] wants to have more than Federer or Djokovic." And you, Mr. Tennis Pundit, know that....how? I mean, yes, surely Rafa would rather have more Slams than anyone else, but I think he is honestly WAAAAAAAY less invested in that outcome than Djokovic - and less than Federer, who I believe resigned himself long ago to being caught/surpassed by one or both of the other two. As Rafa says, often, he has already achieved way more in tennis than he ever thought possible, and ending w/more or fewer Slams than the other guys won't shape how happy he is in the future. I believe him.

    Federer and Nadal are models for the next generation tennis players despite of the number of Gland Slams they have obtained. The thing is they are both humble. Also, they are very entertaining in their style of tennis. Federer has the artistic athletic skills. Nadal has the heroic and warrior style which is quite similar to Pete Sampras. I reckon these three tennis players are the greatest ones ever. The number of GL is important, but other characteristics are also very important to assess their achievement. I remember there was an interview of Rod Laver the Australian tennis legend by Channel 7,he was asked who is the greatest tennis player of all time. He was of the opinion that Roger Federer is the one. From the mouth of a tennis legend.

    Nadal is the player who always struck the most fear into his opponents because of how hard he is to beat. He never quits! He has his faults but he made Joker and Federer into the players they are because of his relentlessness and the fact that he transformed his game into the all court player he is. He pushed Nole on hard courts in those classic matches at the AO. Rafa pushed Nole to be the dominant hard court player he is. Rafa beat Fed on grass and pushed him to have to get better. 08 Wimbledon is the greatest match of all time. Rafa made the most changes and adapted his game the most. He overcame more career obstacles to get to 21 first. Imagine if Nadal didn’t have the injuries he did have. He would be the undisputed and clear GOAT. No matter how the slam numbers end up….Nadal is the GOAT. With that said, Nadal, Joker and Fed have been a joy to watch and they will all be missed when they are done. Golden Era, Greatest Era of all time in Tennis!

    I don't agree with the comment that the French Open is the slam that is the most wide open. It's the contrary. Roland Garos is the least wide open. Rafa lost last year due to the foot injury which was why he was out for the rest of the 2021 season. The most open slam is probably Wimbeldon or US Open.

    • @alonsogarcia6335

      I agree. The French Open is the least wide open, even if Nadal lost last year. I still think it’s his to lose. But I almost feel like the Australian Open is the next least competitive, even though Nadal won it, just because of how dominant Djokovic has been there. For me the most competitive is the US Open, just because of how slow the court can be. You have Nadal who has won it 4 times, and now Medvedev who beat Djokovic last year. Then once in a while you’ll have guys like Thiem or Del Potro or Wawrinka win it.

    I always put Nadal over Novak and federer for ONE ELEMENT = Aces not necessary to win matches.
    Novak needs up to 33% of his game in aces, Roger needed over 40% in aces. Nadal becomes GOAT with only 3 aces.
    I don't like to rate players, as GOAT, when they rely on many aces to win and get freebies all over the match. Nadal never needs a freebie. He doesn't even need more than 1 ace to be GOAT, Think about that, Novak fans.

    Djokovic made one bad call after another. Firstly went to the Olympics which was totally unnecessary, played in both singles and doubles, again unnecessary, and then went on to US OPEN all stressed out and playing 5 set matches, losing the first set always. Now he says he won't get vaccinated, because whatever, and fucks up the visa application (not personally but you know in general). Just sad for Novak, he had great potential to win the calendar slam last year and win Australian Open now and surpass Federer and Nadal. I guess he showed his irrationality these past 6 months.
