Yeah. The gaskets are pretty cheap. Definitely better to be safe than sorry.

So are all lights like this? Cause you make it seem pretty simple. Minds been out for about a year. It's weird cause beginning of last summer it would worked and the next time it didn't. But after that it worked consistently for a couple of weeks and then nothing. That's where I'm at now. I kept thinking maybe it was a gfci somewhere needing reset. I moved in this house in Oct. of 2020, pool season was over but it worked then. Worked most of 2021 but it did go out here and there. Sorry to write so much.
The one I’m showing in the video is pretty standard. There are some others out there. But if yours looks like this one then it probably is the same.
Something about electrified wires being under the same water I’m in never set with me. I much prefer the little floating solar lights. I know it’s probably safe it just seems like an unnecessary risk in retrospect.
Yeah. As long as everything is wired and grounded properly, than it should be fine. I definitely understand the concern though.

Two things. Did you see the spring when he unscrewed the bulb? That’s a straight connection to ground. If there was an incandescent bulb that broke or the LED one shown got wet, the grounded spring would make sure all power got diverted away. Secondly, pool lights should be on a Ground Fault circuit. If any electricity went back through ground or just into the water in general, power would be cut instantly. This is the same reason you have outlets with button in bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoors.
It’s also important to note that electricity and water won’t do what you see in Hollywood movies. There is literally no risk to a properly installed pool light.
I have a question I’m trying to remove the screw that holds everything but I can’t any suggestions please thanks
Unfortunately, if the screw is rusted, stuck, or stripped out where you cant remove it. If it were me, the next step would be to drill it out. or at least drill off the head of the screw so you can get the light out. then you might be able to get ahold of what's left with some vice grips.
The downside is, in order to drill it, you would have to drain the pool down far enough to get a drill to it.
I add a transformer to convert to 12v, then replace bulb with 12v LED. Work perfectly
Interesting. I’ve seen the bulbs that are for 12v. But I’ve never tried to convert one.

Yes. There is a screw that holds it in there. It needs to be a stainless steel screw.

I have slow leak no matter what i do. Slow means about 1/4 fill after 3-4 months
It’s tough to say without looking at it. I would probably hold it underwater and turn it all different directions and see if you can see where an air bubble comes out. If you have put a new gasket on the lens and it is still filling with water, it may be leaking somewhere else.
@@RoscoReviews tried pretty much everything at this point except replacing entire assembly;( which will be my next step. Yeah you can't see any bubbles it is super weak leak takes months to see some water buildup inside
So is this a standard bulb for most pools that I could look up? Or will I have to remove bulb to find out and purchase correct one?

If you have the Pentair style light like in the video. It’s a standard base lightbulb. He bulb that I used in the video is this one.

There are a lot of them on Amazon, and I’m not sure if this one is any better than the others. But it’s the one I picked and it seems to work well.
“New” home. Pool is new to me so not sure. I’ll verify. Just didn’t want to risk opening and not having purchased a correct sized gasket and bulb 😅

Our lights are factory sealed. You cannot just change the bulb on most. You change the fixture and wiring all the way back the the circuit.
ouch. That's a bummer. Every pool that I have every had uses this same Pentair light fixture. If installed properly, its easy to change the bulb.
Ours is factory sealed as well! $1500 for the new light and labor costs.😡
If it was installed correctly.
Several times I've found lights without enough "leash" on them. Getting those bulbs replaced is a whole other project.
Oh no! Yeah. That would make it interesting. All of the pools that I have had left enough cord to pull the fixture out. If there wasn’t enough there, you would be stuck draining some water out :(
@@RoscoReviews Yup. And having to rig up a float to rest the fixture on. Then do the repair as in your video. This, while in in the water, in the deep end. Tricky stuff!

Sometimes im scared of opened Exposed light
You always have to be careful when doing electrical, especially around water. But, if the light was installed and grounded properly than they should be pretty safe.
Every swimming pool with underwater light I ever been to are broken. Including in fancy resorts. So I build my without them in the first place
I’ve not had much issue with them. Other than the occasional bulb out. But there are definitely some fun lighting options that aren’t built in.

If they were installed properly originally, then they should work like they do in the video.
Mine has water inside that I can see when I put on swimming goggles.
