Getting a lot of questions about how to change the aim preference. It can only be changed in story mode or at the main menu and not in an online session. A quick way to change it is to go to the Rockstar Creator and pause to switch it from that menu.

Oh and don't forget to equip you helmets and only use the Mkll MG as it puts out the highest DPS and has no balancing compared to any other weapon in the game. You absolute warriors..
Honorable mention: Vehicle Camera Height - High. This one helped me especially in racing, by having a better view and seeing more of the road and the surrounding props ahead of a corner.
Thank you! I must've crashed into AI cars dozens of times during races because my own car had obscured my view. Driving down hills can be especially treacherous for this reason. I can't imagine why Rockstar didn't just make this setting the default.
Not a big deal but worth mentioning: Turning off "allow spectators". You can't be watched on the tv if you disable it, which makes it harder to get pranked with muggers/mercs etc.
I wish that was the case but my friend whenever I ignore him he knows a little hack to get into a invite only lobby even without the invite which is really creepy when he's 19 and I'm only 17.
A feature that no one talks about the assisted aim is that if you hold the left trigger half way, you can use normal free aim in case that you need to aim between small gaps
This is one of the best settings videos I've seen, thank you. I've noticed that a lot of people turn their aim speed up too high which makes the reticle move too quickly.
The moment I figured out what the complex reticle did, it was the fastest I've ever hoped on for GTA. I seriously thought this was a mod only PC players could get. I haven't switched back since. It is so much more satisfying to use the shotgun with than it is with the little dot reticle. The one thing I couldn't agree with is Full Aim Assisted. I despise it because it requires almost no skill to aim with. I only play on Free Aim lobbies. That's just my opinion. Other than that, thank you for the video!
@@GhillieMaster FA while playing with a controller should've been more like MP3 with slowdown and some weak/moderate tracking assist, ofc with the option to disable it and do pure assistless free aim. I'm a day one gta online player, too, so there was nothing new to me, but I think this is a very helpful video to new players with a focus on pvp. I'm actually playing with the alternative FPS setting, to have ADS and trigger on the L1 and R1 buttons. That way you're a bit quicker on both aim and a shot. And I'm playing with the partial assist, since it is extremely annoying when you're locking to anything but your target. I don't think it is that much of a disadvantage. I used to play with free aim, too, which has a really nice training effect, if you don't care much about your k/d. But in the end every controller guy with the full assist on has a huge advantage over you. Except in a sniper battle.
As someone who plays GTA mostly for the aircraft, I really wish the first person cockpit view was separate from ground vehicles. I would love to be able to use the Deluxo and Scramjet more with the hood view but I refuse to give up my cockpit view in aircraft just for that.
well the worst thing is, you can toggle the first person hood view in aircraft by pressing inspect key on keaboard, but not in ground vehicles, so its exactly the other way around
7:32 the expanded radar can be toggled while flying planes by just expanding the radar. If it shows as expanded and doesn’t show player list and shows the kill-feed, it stays.
I think the simple reticle works better in a Free Aim situation - if you're not relying on a lockon crutch the complex reticle just makes it harder to accurately line up on the target IMO
Honestly great info on gta settings on what they do and describing their uses, makes it quite easy, as like many things in gta, it's quite a mess of stuff chucked out there to be figured out. Refreshing to see such content, there's still so much unknown and interesting content about the game, guides and how things work like armor vid, great to see such effort in gta vids these days. Honestly the controller schemes are still pretty all over the place, with it constantly changing, makes it quite difficult to get clear picture, and still don't get why the bonnet cam replaces 1st person cam, just have it available no matter what or give option for all
For sensitivity, I find that cranking it up is objectively better in GTAO if you play with Assisted Aim Full. It allows you to turn around very quickly while still being able to lock onto enemies.
Assisted Full's one big downside is the game has a tendency to force lock you to targets that may be miles away and behind cover and completely ignores people flanking you and actively firing.
Really cool video even for someone like me who has a full year of gameplay. Some things I would like to point out: For controls: I use Standard FPS for both first and third person. It does feel clunky but it becomes natural as you get used to it. This obviously allows running in third person without holding a button and interaction menu is usable. Do not EVER sprint in third person in ANY control setting unless you like buying new controllers very often. Switching handbrake to A allows you to duck while using the interaction menu in a car, allows you to switch Oppressor and Deluxo modes with the interaction menu up, and allows you to boost on the Mk II and Scramjet with the interaction menu up. Only all advantages. People often ask whats the best control tunings. I think it's very simple. Max everything except deadzones and acceleration at zero. Max sensitivity on everything is still very slow, but makes the game much more responsive. Please, turn OFF matchmaking if you don't want randoms joining your missions by default. It's the most annoying thing when I'm trying to join a random heist from the phone and I get kicked immediately because people don't turn off matchmaking. Also turn off spectators. Turning on independent camera modes is probably better if you like traversing in first person by default. Any vehicle you enter will be in third person and eliminates the awful animation delay if you forget to switch to third before entering. Personal preference: A lot of people really like third person cover on. I used this setting for the longest time even though I would never take cover in first person because of it, I find it very disorienting. Finally turn if off and I realized how much more enjoyable and immersive first person cover is. I also kind of like first person head bobbing, as the camera feels far too floaty without it, but I can agree that the way it's implemeted in this game can be nausea inducing sometimes.
I've been using expanded radar for awhile now, my only issue was close encounter PvP and having a difficult time knowing exactly where someone is. Your fix to this by hitting down on the D-Pad is perfect. Thanks for the video good sir!
change it to everyone player targetting priority IN INTERRACTION MENU USING (M) DEFAULT. GO TO THE LOWEST U WILL SEE IT CHANGE TO EVERYONE TO LOCK ON EVERYONE STRANGERS TO LOCK ON ALL PLAYERS BUT FRIENDS ENEMIES FOR PVP
Nice video, but I would have selected another option in the setting you just missed out: First Person Ragdoll and First Person Combat Roll. Personally, rolling in first person and then going back to aiming a target can feel a bit dizzy. As for the ragdolling part, it is also useful in case npcs try to run me over and I need to check my surroundings Now, about the Reticule Size. As someone that has tried both, on PC, I would say for me, simple reticule is the best instead of the complex one. The reason is that, in PvE scenarios if you aim for headshots at the enemies, you have higher chances of headshots instead of the bullets hitting an enemy's head and the enemy not dying and getting back up and then having to empty a mag in his ass just to kill it. Idk, it is just better for me, the simple smallest reticule size. However, that's not to say that that Complex doesn't have it's own benefits either. And the only benefits, in my opinion would be in case of RPGs because you will have a better reticle and range so you can align your shots properly. And maybe for pistols too, specifically the case of AP pistol when it comes to drive-by shooting. As for Expanded Radar, I always had off (set to small radar), for the simple reason it just takes a huge portion of the screen and I can't focus properly while driving, shooting or anything else.
Tip for the expanded radar: You can make it so you only see icons on the map so it doesn't get too distracting. That's the way I have it, only downside is that for stealth missions you can't see the cone of vision too well
Id also change the radar blip settings, in the interaction menu, turn off store locations, job blips etc, this makes the radar less cluttered, and also disable freemode events - the only ones i have enabled are business battles - checkpoints especially. Having all those big yellow circles on your radar makes seeing player blips hard
I saw this video and thought it would be a bunch of stuff I already knew, but some of these tips are genuinely useful and stuff I've never heard of. Especially the assisted aim full one. Crazy how much there is to this game
2:25 the mini map DOES do this.. Double tap down on the Dpad and it will expand or shrink, but it won't stay enlarged for very long which is fine. However when you're in an aircraft (except Oppressor 1/2 and the Deluxo) it will remain in a larger state permanently until you leave the aircraft

I knew quite a few of these, but some I didn't. Thanks so much for sharing. And thank you guys for helping Ghillie with the video! It was very informative, and helpful. 💛
I play with the most realistic settings for maximum immersion. Lvl 3 brightness, fidelity, regular camera position in vehicles, maxed out FOV and all that plus a custom weapon loadout that is very limited, making missions challenging and making things more interesting. Never gets boring carrying like 3 or 4 guns at a time. Starting free aim too. Auto aim has its perks but you can lock onto the wrong things.
Aside from the reticule I have mostly the same settings. I would also turn off screen kill effects, 1st person ragdoll & combat roll. I agree with the minimap thing. It would be nice if tapping the down button made it cycle between expanded & normal instead of temporarily expanding it. For PS players turning the controller speaker down to almost being off in both the game & PS menu, while keeping it enabled in game will mute almost all NPC phone calls & head set dialogue. Its great for PVE but, if you PVP it will hurt you since missile lock sounds also will be inaudible.
I prefer full assisted aim cause it makes it easy to aim at enemy npcs when doing cayo heist setups and also the autoshop contracts. Plus i dont attack other players Im just a grinder and a car collector in the game
I don't attack other players either, that doesn't stop them attacking me. I moved to free aim to force the griefers to actually hit me themselves, this made me realise they don't go into free aim lobbies because they can't aim either. 😆 I worked on my free aim settings in missions, now if I get attacked, I can sometimes fight back well enough to escape. If I can get space enough to get on that drag bike, they ain't catching me 😄 I'm fast af boiiiiiiii
Great advice man. I've only been gaming a couple months. I've watched a couple of your videos and am going to try your tips. Thanks for making helpful content.
I have a custom controller with an extra A button on the back left and an extra B button on the back right. Since I'm always playing in first-person all I have to do is hold the A button to run. Makes it good for ducking while driving too. The be button allows me to reload quick.
This was very nice video bro I really enjoyed it since I'm new to playing GTA online and my friend who I met on first day lvl 400 thought he would help me but turn of to be against and was very toxic so I thought I was done for 😊
Like you said, it’s personal preference, but I love Standard FPS2. I’ve been playing w/ it for so long, feels better than Standard/ Stan FPS. But this vid was informational and great nonetheless👍
I don't really like complex reticle, it removes the precise dot in favor of a crosshair where, especially for the first shot, I'd prefer a dot showing where my bullets will go instead of some little are where i can guess. I know there's bloom and all but there's nothing cleaner than just a dot
You can tell anyway from experience when bloom is happening by feel and by weapon tracers/impact visuals. You don't need the reticle to tell you. The dot is much more precise and obscures your target less.
@nfsfanAndrew EXACTLY, it's like a red dot without a frame. The only thing being obscured is the point of aim which usually isn't much. Super underrated setting to keep default imo.
Jesus freaking christ, Ive been in pain playing contracts because of the dept of field trying to find enemies with that absurd curtain of blurrines. THANKS A LOT
Maximum first-person-view makes flick up headshots harder at longer ranges. Wider FOV means more pixels, means smaller pixels, means smaller heads to place the reticle on.
If you play shooters you know full auto increases spread and you don't need "reticle feedback". At distance the reticle blocks more of your view so simple is better...
Ghillie, you don’t need to turn on expand radar in settings, all you need to do is tap on down d-pad 2-3 times and it will expand, and if you want it gone click d-pad one more time and it will go back to the standard radar
The first change that anyone should make when starting the game, at least on the PS5 is performance or performance RT from the default fidelity display mode.
on AIM PREFERENCES - NOTE: If your main activity is SURVIVALS (like mine), consider using PARTIAL assisted aim. Full assistance makes it a b**ch to focus on the specific enemy YOU have centered your gun on. GTA will have different priorities than you will, and it’s so hard to wrest your gun aiming away from GTA’s preference. For instance, the game may choose an enemy further away than the guy that’s closer and more of a threat to you. But, as Ghillie mentions, the swap in disadvantages is that you can’t jump from one enemy to the next as easily. Even though I love zipping through a ton of enemies like that, the Survivals I play (VERY difficult Custom ones), you can’t expose yourself longer than what it takes to get headshots on 2 enemies before you’ll be killed. So the Partial Assistance setting’s advantage is lost. We have to roll or go behind cover every 2 head kills in our Survivals.
As an older player I find sniping very challenging. I prefer higher sensitivity for 3rd person aiming of non scoped weapons, but this translates to sniper sensitivity being too high for me as for some reason R* decided to tie scoped aiming to 3rd person sensitivity.
These are some good tips one thing i have noticed is some planes when you press down on the d pad to make the mini map bigger it will stay until you press it agian it is mostly older planes but it is interesting to know
I already do most of these and agree with most of them except for the assisted aim full setting. If you are too close to another NPC and you're having a fight with another player you lock onto the NPC first
@@nfsfanAndrew yeah I like the assistant impartial because if I need to kind of free a left to right like it for enemies behind cover it gives me the option to do that you know what I mean like I can kind of move the stick left or right and I take my finger off the trigger and I can move the crosshairs a little bit left to right if they're hiding behind an object
Personally I like having some motion blur on since it makes the 30 fps more bearable and the 60 fps more seamless. I manually lock onto targets too when aiming, it can still be pretty fast. With resetting the aim it kinda helps get headshots better with muscle memory.
@@ericdraven7185 i play on console, not bum ass pc lol. Gtao way better on console and its gonna be better for gta 6 too because yall are gonna get it like 1-2 years after💀
@@dacian23Well GTA is and always will be a console video game. PC deserves it too, but console is what the game has always been made for. More players on PS and Xbox.
I play on free aim exclusively after playing on assisted aim full since launch. I switched nearly two years ago bc I'm bored of the game and wanted a challenge, and free aim actually takes skill, unlike AAF.
That was definitely helpful even with settings I was already aware of since you explained them from anotehr perpsective. Proplem remains that I can't fight xD.
I’ve been playing on Standard for as long as I can remember. But then I used Standard FPS 2 for a month straight. It felt incredibly weird at first but I got accustomed to it the longer I played with it. Now I can never go back to the original Standard configuration.
Also, the Expanded radar setting breaks when u enter interiors or certain heist maps like cayo or casino heist etc. So I suggest u turn it off before playing heists.
10:30 Keep in mind, your aim preferences determines what lobbies you get into. Everyone in the lobby (or job, mission) will have the same aim preferences. When you join a game or a mission these preferences will change and you'll get a warning. If you refuse the change in aim preferences it won't let you into that lobby or job/mission. Also Free aim isn't "stupid," as the majority of PC players use free aim since they play with a mouse and keyboard. Aim assist is for controller players since you can't aim for shit on a controller, since you'll always over shoot your target. So which is more stupid?
DANG!!! Wish they had that FPV option on Console! That would be way better than having to PAUSE, go to settings to turn the hood on and off. I have to do that when I call out The Savage.
I played with some guys in free aim and they told me to switch my controller scheme to run with rb it’s the best thing I’ve ever done have been usin it for years
1:27 IIRC my right stick button makes me look behind... I think I've changed the controls though. Will have to check when I get back. Is there a way to instantly change between first and third person views? 3:05 Setting an ultrawide(?) resolution seems to give even more FOV (possibly at the cost of verticals). I currently have mine at borderless 1680x720 (21:9) and I really like the extra peripheral view
Difference between simple and complex reticles is that they both specialize in one specific thing. Dot is for people who use aim assist, Complex would be for free aimers since the dot is too small to keep over other players.
Getting a lot of questions about how to change the aim preference. It can only be changed in story mode or at the main menu and not in an online session. A quick way to change it is to go to the Rockstar Creator and pause to switch it from that menu.

Its great for PVE but, if you PVP it will hurt you since missile lock sounds also will be inaudible.
Reason why a lot of people still have 1st person randoll on is because you used to be able to ewo when knocked down back before that got nerfed
@@Brandon_093 Took me a few second to figure out EQO means easy way out. I cant remember the last time I used that.
That aim preference is precious. I loose more than win. Hopefully this will change that. Thank you bunches.
I worked on my free aim settings in missions, now if I get attacked, I can sometimes fight back well enough to escape. If I can get space enough to get on that drag bike, they ain't catching me 😄 I'm fast af boiiiiiiii
You're truly a unique channel. I love your vids ghillie
Nice man. Been playing for awhile(since launch) taught me some tips. Thanks.
Great advice man. I've only been gaming a couple months. I've watched a couple of your videos and am going to try your tips. Thanks for making helpful content.
This was a very helpful video, evem for a somewhat :"OG" player like myself, Thank you💯👏
I have a custom controller with an extra A button on the back left and an extra B button on the back right. Since I'm always playing in first-person all I have to do is hold the A button to run. Makes it good for ducking while driving too. The be button allows me to reload quick.
what the title should be: "10 Settings You NEED To Change To Be a Bigger SWEAT/TRYHARD in GTA Online! (In Depth Guide)"
I would love more videos like this but focusing on PvE & the solo player.
Also too, I feel that lowering the look/aim acceleration helps a lot in looking & aiming more precisely
Hey great video. I have been online for 10 years and never thought about some of these. So much better now.

This was very nice video bro I really enjoyed it since I'm new to playing GTA online and my friend who I met on first day lvl 400 thought he would help me but turn of to be against and was very toxic so I thought I was done for 😊
Nice videos of ghillie bro ❤im new in gta online this video help me and new players ❤
i will give these settings a try nice video Ghillie
Like you said, it’s personal preference, but I love Standard FPS2. I’ve been playing w/ it for so long, feels better than Standard/ Stan FPS. But this vid was informational and great nonetheless👍
5:42 if u have Hold to sprint default layout lets u sprint still but you will have to stop whenever you click on something
Super underrated setting to keep default imo.
and how do u change aim preference ??
Jesus freaking christ, Ive been in pain playing contracts because of the dept of field trying to find enemies with that absurd curtain of blurrines. THANKS A LOT
Just switched to first person! Completely different experience being able to sim through the sights and use scopes!!!
Big game changer thanks bro
Maximum first-person-view makes flick up headshots harder at longer ranges. Wider FOV means more pixels, means smaller pixels, means smaller heads to place the reticle on.
Gonna try these ASAP!
Keep doing what you do for the people
thanks for the video
Shunt Hopping... sheesh. That's how. NICE1
Thanks for sharing
If you play shooters you know full auto increases spread and you don't need "reticle feedback". At distance the reticle blocks more of your view so simple is better...
Most games that have bullet spread show that by the reticle increasing in size.
If you're at the point where you need to modify settings pull out the fight, let's be honest you can pvp with any settings
Very informative video. Thanks.
Ghillie, you don’t need to turn on expand radar in settings, all you need to do is tap on down d-pad 2-3 times and it will expand, and if you want it gone click d-pad one more time and it will go back to the standard radar
Yo I’m a vet player!!
Thanks
Standard FPS is legitimate and complex reticle also!!
Great tip!!!
The smashing of the A button sucKs when running!!!
Excellent video with some awesome tips.
Very necessary video , thank you 🙏🏻
I had no idea the reticle setting existed definitely running it from now on
The first change that anyone should make when starting the game, at least on the PS5 is performance or performance RT from the default fidelity display mode.
But fidelity looks amaaaaaaazing.
on AIM PREFERENCES - NOTE: If your main activity is SURVIVALS (like mine), consider using PARTIAL assisted aim.
Good stuff been using these settings for the past 10 years
I use most of these settings but it's nice to learn exactly what they do.
this video so well done and informative
As an older player I find sniping very challenging. I prefer higher sensitivity for 3rd person aiming of non scoped weapons, but this translates to sniper sensitivity being too high for me as for some reason R* decided to tie scoped aiming to 3rd person sensitivity.
Have you messed with acceleration?
Free Aim is the best targeting mode B)
These are some good tips one thing i have noticed is some planes when you press down on the d pad to make the mini map bigger it will stay until you press it agian it is mostly older planes but it is interesting to know
I already do most of these and agree with most of them except for the assisted aim full setting. If you are too close to another NPC and you're having a fight with another player you lock onto the NPC first
Then just switch targets by flicking the stick. Assisted aim partial will still do this and you can't flick off the wrong target.
Thanks for the good tips. 🎉
Personally I like having some motion blur on since it makes the 30 fps more bearable and the 60 fps more seamless. I manually lock onto targets too when aiming, it can still be pretty fast. With resetting the aim it kinda helps get headshots better with muscle memory.
Maybe it’s time to up grade your pc I easily get 200 fps with ultra settings
@@ericdraven7185 i play on console, not bum ass pc lol. Gtao way better on console and its gonna be better for gta 6 too because yall are gonna get it like 1-2 years after💀
@@dacian23Well GTA is and always will be a console video game. PC deserves it too, but console is what the game has always been made for. More players on PS and Xbox.
I play on free aim exclusively after playing on assisted aim full since launch. I switched nearly two years ago bc I'm bored of the game and wanted a challenge, and free aim actually takes skill, unlike AAF.
4:28 it's called bullet spread.. not bloom.
Evening Ghillie!!
This video is so helpful
In combination with these settings, it would be awesome to be able to toggle kd on or off depending on preference.
For pvp, im a pc mouse and keyboard guy, full free aim is the best strategy
That was definitely helpful even with settings I was already aware of since you explained them from anotehr perpsective. Proplem remains that I can't fight xD.
Amazing video 10/10

I’ve been playing on Standard for as long as I can remember. But then I used Standard FPS 2 for a month straight. It felt incredibly weird at first but I got accustomed to it the longer I played with it. Now I can never go back to the original Standard configuration.
Complex is also awesome for jets makes dogfights way better
Nice made video! +1
AD:1 on PC you can reach this view by pressing [Insert] by default (as far as I know). but I switched this button to [LCTRL] for easy access
Also, the Expanded radar setting breaks when u enter interiors or certain heist maps like cayo or casino heist etc. So I suggest u turn it off before playing heists.
When I switch the hydraulics, it’s easier to go down from the firemen now and Amy it’s so much easier and much more agile.
He didn't say free aim was stupid, watch that section again.
To me assisted aim makes the gunfights pointless. click auto-lock, click kill... repeat. Assisted aim lobbies are also where the griefers live.
@@samblack5313 you still have to aim for headshots.. assisted aim only targets center mass.
DANG!!! Wish they had that FPV option on Console! That would be way better than having to PAUSE, go to settings to turn the hood on and off. I have to do that when I call out The Savage.
Question how do I turn my aiming to assisted aiming full? I’m on partial aiming but when I try to change it it doesn’t let me?
Just go to story mode or creator in the online tab of the pause menu. Next go to pause menu - controls.
Really hope gta 6 gives us better game settings for controller and pc
Difference between simple and complex reticles is that they both specialize in one specific thing.
Dot is for people who use aim assist,
Complex would be for free aimers since the dot is too small to keep over other players.
What system do you play on?
I also turned every sensitivity setting from movement to shooting all the way up
Can you please do an in-depth guide on which mk2 weapons we should use?
