He was not Brazilian. Not in the way we currently understand what it means to be Brazilian, that is.
He was a Portuguese from Santos. We were all Portuguese back then (at least those of us lucky enough not to be enslaved). The Portuguese Empire, unlike, say, Spain, didn't discriminate subjects based on geographic origin (it did on many other grounds, but that's another story).
Plus, the term Brazil, back then, was used mostly as a general denomination for a poorly defined geographical area, much in the way we say The Guyanas, the Caribbean or the Southern Cone nowadays.
In all likelihood, de Gusmão never thought of himself as being anything other than a Portuguese from São Vicente/São Paulo.

It has the name, the economy (oil, hidroelectric, mining), the population, everything. Hey there Portuguese guy, you wouldn't mind if we took one island your country owns, and then we forced the people there to flee, Then we installed a local population and a military base there, the people that arrived don't speak 1 word of Portuguese, they have children and then we ask them to vote if they want to stay in that country.
It's like this, "we asked the roman people in Londinium if they wanted to be ruled by their Celtic people up north, they said they didn't wanted so that means this land we took is for ourselves.

"we asked the roman people in Londinium if they wanted to be ruled by their Celtic people up north, they said they didn't wanted so that means this land we took is for ourselves."
Yeah no shit, this is EXACTLY how it is and always has worked. The Romans BUILT Londinium and wanted to be Roman, so they were. The Celts tried to take it, and failed (sound familiar?) and so it REMAINED Roman. Then the Saxons took it an the Romans didn't try to take it back, so it became Saxon. Argentina tried to take The Falklands by conquest and failed, so they remain British.
It's like this, "We asked the descendants of European people in The Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata if they wanted to be ruled by the Spanish, they said they didn't want to so that means this land we took is for ourselves."

    Honestly, not bad.
The only thing i would trutly complain about is in the Amazon rainforest. A country like that would be extremly diverse and weak, so i think it would be better for it to have more autonomy in Brazil (Yes, even if it ruins the federal spirit). The guianan state however, would actually be Venezuelan majority, which would probably mean that it has a really short lifespan.
Out of that, not really much to complain about.
Yes, the borders within Argentina and Chile could have been more detailed, but argentinian losses aren't really dramatic, while Chile's losses are crippling, but very survivabe (There is a huge legal problem with giving Colesuyo to Bolivia, but Peru isn't really able to do anything about it. South Peru may complain, but just that. I would have given Bolivia sea somewhere else, but nothing too dramatic).
    Overall, the map is alr.

Brazilian here, from Rio Grande do Sul. The “south is my country” is a joke. Rio Grande do Sul is the only state in the south, the other two are NOT southerner. I would prefer to stay with Brasil but for the fun of it you should unite Rio Grande do Sul with Uruguay. We are the same people, we just speak a different language because Europe decided

Quick thing on the amazonia country and the guyanas countries. The amazonia one would likely have problems with either rule/governance or not actually respecting the natives as there have been conflicts there. In the combined Guyanas country would likely be heavily influenced by other countries sonce they would be a new country eoth lots of oil.

Panhandles shouldn't be removed just for aesthetics on a map, Amazon should be an autonomous area in brazil, not a new country, and the Guyanas merger is cursed and nonsensical. the rest was interesting

Hooray for Riograndense! I am an American who now lives in Rio Grande do Sul. The three southern states also have a distinctly different culture than the rest of the country. We have our unique words, phrases and customs. Although I have permanent residency in Brasil I feel more Gaucho than Brasileiro.

of course some people are getting mad about fictional content. but these videos are great just the way they are and have to stay - unchanged. even if i´m not on board with every idea, his videos gave me new ideas and things to consider. there are probably millions of ideas out there on how to change and redraw borders. and who knows how the world´s borders might lokk in 10, 20, 50 or 100 years from now?

Btw, it would be interesting, for me, to have a video about every flag of a territory, claimed or existing that you can find and explaining the historical context behind it, much like you do here with some of the flags. That and of course changes in actual flags in use today

i would be completely on board to split Brazil into a dozen smaller countries, and to turn everything west of the Tocantins river into an Amazonian Protectorate... a huge national reserve, where only indigenous people would be able to live in (without modern technology). Keep everything united with an union similar to the Europeuan Union, with the other LATAM countries as well.

Hello, not sure if you are aware, the automatic dubbing is activated by default on your channel so if your international viewers do not want to hear some AI voice over your original audio track, they have to change the setting every time manually since YT doesn’t allow viewers to deactivate it and only content creators can do it, it is extremely frustrating to hear the AI dub and am forced to change back the language every single time, more accessibility is not bad per se obviously but it should be not by default and should be the other way around
