The one lesson I learned from this tale is that it doesn’t matter who you are, how much money you have, what type of family you come from, the education you have, the future you have planned, once you encounter evil your odds of surviving are very small. We all know Urine killed her (and yes I know that’s not his name but that is my name for him) and unfortunately, we will never know what happened because he is incapable of telling the truth. He might as well say she was abducted by aliens at this point because that is as easy to believe as any one of the dozens of other stories he has told. I am sad for her parents.
Happy Easter from the west Coast of Canada. I have subscribed but absolutely no alerts. This is my favourite podcast to listen to. Love it. Thank you , and to the whole crew for your hard work.
Merry Christmas from Southeast Alaska! Juneau is the capital city. I've been to Prince Rupert many times before 9/11/2001. I miss you all so very much!
This is such a sad and disturbing case. I doubt we will ever know the truth of what happened to her body. it's chilling to hear her mom say she had a bad feeling and didn't want her to go on the trip, almost as if she had mom's intuition. So sad.
Subscribed and thumbs up from me! The best pod I've heard on this case. Very interesting and well researched. Gives you enough information to be able to get a feeling of the Island and the characters involved. Thank you! Very sad for Natalee and her family and friends. Cant imagine how they deal with the loss. I wish them well 🙏😞
I'm guessing this Yuran guy killed more than 2 women. Killing on an anniversary is just pure psychopath. He probably killed Natalie and his father helped to dispose of her body. Just glad he was caught and he's suffering in a Peruvian jail
I feel like a big mistake the mom made was painting her daughter as cartoonishly nice. Like if someone tells you "this person would never drink, they have a smile that lights up a room and everyone loves them" everyone else knows that's just code for "this person has some nasty vices but i wouldn't ever tell you that and i don't actually know anything good about them" If you're in a criminal case you have to tell the public what your loved one might do, even if its embarrassing. You need to tell them "hey she might try to drink especially with peer pressure since she's fallen for it before" or "she may try to hook up", not doing that tells people that theres no place they could look out for her at
Seems like a really bad idea to have such young kids unsupervised other than someone doing a headcount each day. Were these mostly fairly rich kids? I couldn't imagine letting my kids go unless there were other parents going.
It was a high school graduation trip and they had 7 chaperones. Natalee was 18 years old about to enter college in september. It was very sad what happened to her but you can't shelter your kids forever...
Excellent coverage of this case. How Joran Van der Sloot managed to slip through the fingers of the law on this one was so frustrating. There's no doubt about his guilt in my mind and I suspect the authorities eventually felt the same. In any case, hope he enjoyed his time in Challapalca! I understand he was extradited last year to US and is now serving time there. I hope if he's released that they keep an eye on him. He's a dangerous and unhinged individual.

Learning about this case, I thought back to the class trip we took to several theme parks as part of the music program (we'd perform marches in exchange for getting multipark passes). We'd gripe every day about how curfew/lights out was always within half an hour of us being driven back to the hotel (no chance to go to the hotel's pool!) since we'd have to be up and ready by 7 am. But thinking about the way this class trip was 'chaperoned' (I don't agree that the school should have allowed them to just hit up all the bars even if it was legal to drink there at 18), I'm glad we were given such a strict set of rules and itinerary to check in hourly with our assigned chaperone and never be in any park alone at any given time. I think our director coordinated it specifically so we'd all be too tired to do anything other than go straight to bed (one or two nights, we'd get back past curfew so there was no chance for anyone to sneak about or order pizzas), and ensured we'd come home safe.
I was down in Aruba while the class came in I was there with them for one day and saw that tall asshole at Carlos and Charlie’s literally two nights before she disappeared I left with my class the day before she went missing this case Really hits home for me I’m so happy that they caught him it sucks somebody else had to die but at least he’s getting “sausage in the can”every night in the Peru prison
In 2023 Youran Van Der Sloot finally confessed to the grisly murder of Natalee Holloway and provided law enforcement with details of what he did with her body. He also tried to extort $250k from her family in exchange for ‘information’ pertaining to her whereabouts.
Whos idea was it to go to Aruba? What person thought it was a good idea to let teens go drink? I’m not a parent, but I would never let my kid go, no matter how “responsible” they were. Even myself, I wouldn’t go. (I also wouldn’t drink if I did) - In the 90s my uncles senoir trip was a cruise. They all got drunk and after that the local school (which has 40 grads a year) wasn’t allowed to go on senior trips for 4 years. And now its full if actual good supervisors
As a teacher myself who has taken college student (16-24) abroad for trips I am flabbergasted at the poor safeguard of the students. This trip just wouldn’t be signed off in the first place here in the UK.
the trips I've been on in highschool definitely felt like a school trip, the chaperones were extremely professional and almost paranoid about something happened so they kept a close watch on all of us. this was just absolutely embarrassing and p*ss poor management by the chaperones. wth where they even there for if they weren't even gonna watch the students and on top of that let them consume insane amounts of alcohol and party all night. ridiculous. it was only a matter of time before something like this happened if it wasn't natalee it would've been someone else.
I also got angered by the lack of supervision and support for the students from the chaperones. Even if this was not a school sanctioned event the chaperones had duty of care. It seemed to me that the parents would have expected more from them. As one person here pointed out, why were they there? Such a terrible tragedy for everyone involved. I hope the friend who waited up for her on that fateful night has felt peace knowing she was a good friend. ❤
If this would have happened in the U.S. Joran and the others would have been arrested/detained for a very long time just due to the amount of lying to authorities over a series matter and consistently changing thwir stories. Unbelievable.
I cannot imagine the pain the parents went through, to raise a child and loose it in such a poor way to some evil idiot with a fcked up mindset. And that poor girl. She was so young..full life ahead of her. She went there to have the time of her life with friends and classmates, and she never got home. I... this story brings out too much emotion of me to be able to write it down properly. But i really hope that murdering piece of shit suffers a lot. And Natalie... rest in peace.
It's hard to fathom just how dangerous life can be. Here in the US, most are harmed by people they know; this case proves you're not necessarily safe with ones you "don't" know either! It takes character to say and do the right things after, for instance, witnessing a crime, to say nothing of avoiding participation in one! It's too bad it's in such short supply, everywhere!
@@mattwayne9128 youtube's ALWAYS been like this dude. One of the joys of social media is that intellectually disabled people have a voice and or a victimhood mentality. It's a shame the girl made the decision to go with the guy(s). Not her fault, better choices could have been made. The sad thing is you SHOULD be able to do x, y, z and be safe. Reality is though you can't. Everyone else can get on their high horse bit there's always going to be people like the monsters in this tale. Hope my kids never get lured in to something like this and go by themselves though that's for sure.
@@dfgiuy22 Yes, it was irresponsible , but she was also very drunk at the time she got in the car with Joran. Many people make poor decisions when they're drunk and are often lucky that nothing bad happens. One can also ask where her friends and classmates were to stop her from doing something like that, because she obviously wasnt able to think straight at that moment.
His name is Joran van der Sloot, not Juran. He was convicted later in Peru for, ofcourse, another murder. He's rotting away in a Peruvian jail. Good riddance.
Alexis Norry Valkyren RUclips is intentionally blocking channels that they deem controversial from showing up in your subscriptions. This is absolutely BS.
It’s because he went on holiday during the Xmas and new year period and has only posted 3-4 video since returning.. maybe because he is posting infrequently
Joran proved, that he's capable to kill.. case closed. The how, we'll likely never find out. Also a small mistake in this podcast: Joran never said to Patrick that he and Natalee had sex.. only foreplay.
This is an extremely sad case. I can’t help but feel the School was partially responsible for Natalee’s disappearance. Sending a bunch of high school graduates to Aruba where the drinking law is relaxed and is a hotspot for drug activities is a recipe for disaster. Should’ve been better supervision.
The interesting part about this case is that the bars like Señor Frogs that are always in tourist areas in popular cruise ports like Aruba, there are quite a few similar cases where women were targeted at the bar, roofied, and effectively kidnapped to be taken to a location to be sexually assaulted and then killed to avoid arrest (which never makes sense, far more resources and manpower are devoted to homicides and suspicious missing persons cases than rape cases. Half the time they don’t even bother to DNA test rape kits unless there was serious physical assault as well.) And in a lot of cases the perpetrators are other tourists, often Americans. Some cases are by actual locals but even then, they are often from a family like this. Wealthy local western colonial family.
When I went out partying I would always have my drink in my hand and keep an eye on it. If I went to the bathroom I wouldn’t take another sip from that glass. After a few drinks I switched to water so I would be able to keep my mind clear.
Of course this shouldn’t happen but it does. We need to be able to drink all we want and not get drunk. That DOESN’T happen. So what do we do? Stay in groups and don’t get smashed. Oh, don’t take off with strangers.
I can't help but believe that everything that happened to Natalie, whatever it was, could have been avoided had she not tried to consume every drop of alcohol available on the island. What's the point of so-called chaperones if they do absolutely nothing to help make sure things like this don't happen?
I hate when parents say they were not a big drinker and wouldnt touch drugs -_- clearly she was as she drank everyday while there and most teens dont let there parents know what they are doing and cocaine is easy to hide doing from people who dont know what your like on it and most do it when drinking to sober up and or drink more
There is an easy fix for these types of things with school leavers. Schools and parents either attend as well and watch them closely or they ban them completely. As for this particular case…wasn’t there enough information to fill the time that you had to add in all the irrelevant things. Those minor details turn what is a tragedy into entertainment. I am not listening anymore to them. The narration shits me to tears.
I believe he killed her but some things don't make any sense. If he bashed her face in wouldn’t there be a heavy trail of blood left in the sand leading to the ocean? Wouldn't people notice it early the next morning? He says nothing about covering up blood or anything only that he quickly leaves, and wouldn’t her body float if not weighted down?
I'm from Alabama and I remember this well...what I never realized is that Nat was chewish...that explains a lot of the actions of her mom n dad.. threats, boycotts, excessive news coverage...it all makes sence now... of course the lawsuit was dismissed against them...
I've always thought that she was actually sold into sex slavery myself. I know that dude said he did all kinds of things, but he could have been threatened by the person who bought her. Maybe i just have an overthinking mind
I know that I’m going to be highly criticised for this, but Natalie was the one who gave these boys the opportunity by drinking heavily and being incapable of differentiating right from wrong and went with the boys.😞 I’m not saying that it’s okay for what happened next, but there are tons of evil mongrels out there just waiting for someone like her There were lots of other kids with her but none of them were taken or ended up missing I really thought that she was a sensible and a smart girl but I guess once you are under the influence of drugs and alcohol, you are not in control A very sad story indeed and a lot of suffering for the parents of such kids
She was young & naive.. I did some sketchy shit when I was her age. I’m 24 now & luckily married with a kid… So I wont be putting myself in situations. But if you’re gonna blame anyone, don’t blame her. Obviously she didn’t expect to get killed. The blame falls on her friends for not watching her in a foreign country
The blame really falls on the "chaperoning." Why would you bring 18 year olds who have never legally consumed alcohol on a foreign island where the drinking age is lowered? That is asking for trouble. Why even bring chaperones when they don't do anything anyway?
I love your podcast, and I realize you need to make money, but I've been listening since your early days, and your ads are simply out of control in not only the amount and length of them, but the tone of your voice, and the volume. They destroy the flow of your work so vitally, that I no longer enjoy listening like I used to. It's really a shame.
@@korokseed1037 Did you even bother to read my entire comment? Not that it's any of your goddamn business, but the commercials don't bother me. Never once did I say I wanted him to stop doing commercials, as that would be a completely ridiculous request. Like I already stated in my first comment, what bothers me about the commercials are his extremely harsh voice changes when he does them. His voice transforms from very calm and relaxing to extremely loud, and full of stress and anxiety. I also listen to the show at night, and I usually end up drifting off while I'm listening, as his voice is very soothing and helps me sleep. Now when that happens I am always startled awake by the volume and harshness of the commercials. Basically I'm not able to enjoy the show or listen to it straight through because of the ads, and I know for a fact that there are other people who feel the same way as I do. Maybe next time before you decide to be a defensive prick to a stranger you don't agree with on RUclips, you should take the time to actually read the comment they shared and try to and understand where they might be coming from. It takes character to say and do the right things after, for instance, witnessing a crime, to say nothing of avoiding participation in one! It's too bad it's in such short supply, everywhere!
Young girl on the booze leaving with 3 strangers in a foreign land? What could possibly go wrong?
So your saying she deserved it? People like you should be locked up with the rest of the psychos
@Car Lea Yeah its crazy. It doesn't mean she 'deserved it' but it was irresponsible in the extreme.
@@jessicas3207 Where did you get "She deserved it" from the comment?
Idk what's with the recent uptick of Illiterate dumb-knots here recently.
Imagine boycotting the USA because a murder happened...
Juran looks like a tall, weird elf. He ended up being the “Real Aruba Shark”. Juran definitely drugged, drowned poor Natalie.
who is juran
His name is Joran van der Sloot, not Juran. He was convicted later in Peru for, ofcourse, another murder. He's rotting away in a Peruvian jail. Good riddance.
And Natalee jumped straight on it.
Gross.
I don´t know what is happening, but for the past 1-2 months, Casefile does not show in my subscription tab :-(
Same here!
Alexis Norry Valkyren RUclips is intentionally blocking channels that they deem controversial from showing up in your subscriptions. This is absolutely BS.
@@lostsailor2284 omg really? I was wondering why casefile wasn't showing up in my sub feed. This channel definitely needs more subscriptions.
It’s because he went on holiday during the Xmas and new year period and has only posted 3-4 video since returning.. maybe because he is posting infrequently
French blue8 yeah he has a production team, they probably go on holiday altogether, plus one of his staff members is on maternity leave.

🙏🏼
Joran proved, that he's capable to kill.. case closed. The how, we'll likely never find out. Also a small mistake in this podcast: Joran never said to Patrick that he and Natalee had sex.. only foreplay.
I always think of Patrice O’Neal stand up when I hear Natalee Holloway name lol great video tho!
No blame to the kids who were completely smashed on alcohol and drugs? On the parents for allowing the kids to go?
Travelers need to stay aware of their surroundings. Don’t go off with strangers.
I hate when parents say they were not a big drinker and wouldnt touch drugs -_- clearly she was as she drank everyday while there and most teens dont let there parents know what they are doing and cocaine is easy to hide doing from people who dont know what your like on it and most do it when drinking to sober up and or drink more
Americans have a fair legal system?
17:38 yeah, EVERY parent says that. My mom would be shocked if she knew the stupid things i did in HS
This guy is the definition of a pathological liar. You can’t trust a word he says because he’s always lying. And he’s a psychopath.

A ridiculous amount of advertising.

I'm from Alabama and I remember this well...what I never realized is that Nat was chewish...that explains a lot of the actions of her mom n dad.. threats, boycotts, excessive news coverage...it all makes sence now...
of course the lawsuit was dismissed against them...
That's really funny & true to point
@@IrishMountainGoat47 just last week they had vanderdude in court in Birmingham admitting to it....they probably give him the chair...
I hope not human trafficking this is
I've always thought that she was actually sold into sex slavery myself. I know that dude said he did all kinds of things, but he could have been threatened by the person who bought her. Maybe i just have an overthinking mind
There should have been a lot more chaperones. Sadly the school probably wanted to save money so they didn’t bother bringing more adults on the trip.
I know that I’m going to be highly criticised for this, but Natalie was the one who gave these boys the opportunity by drinking heavily and being incapable of differentiating right from wrong and went with the boys.😞
I’m not saying that it’s okay for what happened next, but there are tons of evil mongrels out there just waiting for someone like her
There were lots of other kids with her but none of them were taken or ended up missing
I really thought that she was a sensible and a smart girl but I guess once you are under the influence of drugs and alcohol, you are not in control
A very sad story indeed and a lot of suffering for the parents of such kids
She was young & naive.. I did some sketchy shit when I was her age. I’m 24 now & luckily married with a kid… So I wont be putting myself in situations. But if you’re gonna blame anyone, don’t blame her. Obviously she didn’t expect to get killed. The blame falls on her friends for not watching her in a foreign country
The blame really falls on the "chaperoning." Why would you bring 18 year olds who have never legally consumed alcohol on a foreign island where the drinking age is lowered? That is asking for trouble. Why even bring chaperones when they don't do anything anyway?
@@belladonna5904 The chaperones were probably drunk too unfortunately
Her friends should have been looking out for her. Golden rule, don't let one of your friends get isolated.
Stinkende nollanders....
Ugh, Dr Phil, always has to get filthy his claws into everything.
Too many lenghthy advertisments interupting the story. Good podcast though.
Playong sweet home alabama seems a racist like oh you american then you must love your sister and sweet home alabama
@Car Lea Really? I'm expressing an opinion. Fuck off.
You realize you can just skip through them right? This is quality FREE entertainment for you. Show some more gratitude.
Taking this basic step could really help you to not get your ass beat in the future. 😘

@@korokseed1037 Yea, uh...you're not really my type, and the whole "daddy" thing is really not my cup of tea either. But hey, there's gotta be someone out there who's willing to help you with that. Good luck!
1. Dr. Phil = BARF! Glad that the brothers were able to sue. Ridiculous it was dismissed. 2. White Privilege 3. Mom was incredibly over-the-top in regards to the Aruban Country.
Yeah ok dude, whatever. Points two and three you make demonstrate the type of personality you have. Especially the last one, It was her child... what else was she meant to do? The question was rhetorical, before you try to spin some BS.
You proclaim white privilege in point two, indicating a certain victim mindset. You then go on to bash and actual family member who has become a victim to losing a child in unknown, horrible circumstances...
It was time for Thomas to leave the station for now he had seen everything....
White privilege? The government gives all of my tax dollars to welfare recipients and illegals. . If I were privileged, I would be able to keep my whole paycheck!
Being killed in a foreign country is indeed "White privilege"
How can one island have so many lying sons of bachelors?
I’m American & there’s just no way in hell I’d visit Aruba after how the justice system there gave zero fks that this young girl went missing on their territory. Ironically that Joran dude ended up murdering a woman years later. Yup, he definitely murdered Natalie.
The other young woman he killed…her Daddy was a government dude from Chile, I think? Yeah, he didn’t get far after that. The whole Chilean government wanted his head.
Ironic you say this given how fucked the American justice system is
