James, your tutorial on the rose stitch has been a great help to me. I had been relying on another tutorial on that stitch, one that had added slipped stitches along the edge. Those slipped stitches created unnecessary confusion and made the work a drag, because they made the pattern hard to keep in one's head. Your way of keeping to the essentials of the pattern is a much better approach.
    Small change = huge difference.

@@jamescoxknits I had pretty much decided that my first Rose Stitch project would be my last because the pattern had become such drudgery for me. Your tutorial has changed my mind, so now it's back to my original plan to make a set of Rose Stitch dishtowels in two shades of blue cotton yarn (dark navy and watery blue). Thanks again, James.

    Hi James,
I finished my first Rose Stitch dishcloth and gave it to a friend. I've now started my second one, in Cascade Yarns Sarasota, a cotton blend DK weight yarn. Your pattern is helping so much.
As you know, your pattern on the right side leans diagonally to the left. If you were to start your pattern at Row 3 instead of Row 1, would the pattern lean diagonally to the right instead of to the left? In other words, you'd be working your pattern in this sequence:
    Rows *3,4,1,2, repeat from *.
    Thanks, James.

@@jamescoxknits My second Rose Stitch dishtowel is looking very nice in a khaki shade of Cascade Sarasota. The stitching shows more confidence than my first Rose Stitch project. I'm keeping this one.

James, I just noticed something in the video and transcript. On the two rows where you are knitting one, then knitting one through the back loop (Rows 2 and 4), I believe you did not reverse the sequence on Row 4. In other words, in the video your sequence on both Row 2 and Row 4 begins with k1, followed by k1 through the back loop. Is that what you meant to do? Or did you mean for Row 2 to be k1, then k1 through the back loop, then k1, and so forth until the end of the row? Then Row 4 would be the reverse, k1 through the back loop, then k1, then k1 through the back loop, and so forth until the end of the row? Thanks for taking a second look at those rows.

Vivian, I checked the pattern for the Rose stitch. You have a keen eye. Yes, the 4th row should be a reversed sequence.
      Row 1: P1, * K1, P1; rep from *.
      Row 2: K1, * K1tbl, K1; rep from *.
      Row 3: K1, * P1, K1; rep from *.
      Row 4: K1tbl, * K1, K1tbl; rep from *.
      Rep rows 1-4.
Thanks for sharing your discovery. James

I'm glad to hear that you like the Rose stitch. I don't have a written version of the pattern and will not be back in the office for a few weeks. When I am I'll send you a copy. Till then, enjoy your knitting.
