    Thanks Chuck! You helped me so much with the clarity of your description of these fine pianos. I'm going for the PX 5s cause I already lug so much gear to my shows. Maybe someday the Nord cause I do love the real sound of a piano. peace brother

    Thanks so much for your videos! I have been watching them from Townsville, Queensland, Australia :) I've been wanting something like the Yamaha S90XS but you've given me the confidence to get a Casio PX-350 :) Cheers! Much better for the bank account and back!

    Hi Chuck - thanks for sharing. I did look up the Nord Stage 2 - and see most places list it with a list price in excess of $4K. I'm glad I got the PX-350 for $700. It's been a great deal for me and I'm happy with it.

    Chuck: Please comment on the pedals available for all four models. I saw a three-pedal plug-in for the Nord, and I know the PX350 can use the SP33. What about the other two models?

    Hey Chuck, so would you say that the Privia PX-5S is the best bang-for-your-buck digital piano?? Is it a good one for a beginner?
    I'm looking for something that sounds good and gives me flexibility to play other sounds such as organs, synths, strings, etc.
    Great videos by the way! Best reviewer on youtube for sure!

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  10 лет назад

      The PX-5S and the PX-350 are both great value for their price. All depends on what you want to do. If you don't need a music sheet holder or built-in amp/speakers, the PX-5S is excellent! Otherwise the PX-350 is one of the best for a beginner.

    Great review.. id like to mirror your point as part of my live setup i had a privia px3 which was fantastic the feel and sound albeit i just used the main piano.. i recently sold my rig to downsize and as i am a live musician that gigs a lot i needed something light so i bought a krome 88 which is great but does not respond and play like the casio.. i think what im trying to say is for people to not dismiss the privia as its a casio they are very good instruments for live gigging musicians.. and like you say really light. I used to get a bit of flack from musicians about the privia and then they heard it and soon changed their views.. thanks and again great review

    The question is, Nord Stage2 Keyboard is the weak point that has that workstation? It's hard to get used to this keyboard as a pianist?

      Nord Stage 2 keyboard is not hard to get used to as a pianist. For some its very easy. You need to try it out for yourself.

    Hey Chuck. You said that you did not like the nord´s keyboard because its was to soft but I wonder. Isint it soft so you can play organ easier. for example glide with the hand.

    Apples or pears...I would include the Yamaha CP4 as a strong contender (even though I'm quite satisfied with my Kawai ES7, as it has built in speakers)

  • @missakhaladjian
    @missakhaladjian 6 лет назад

    i had the kronos and now i got the stage 3, both are great instruments, kronos has more capabilities (more sounds layering, direct sampling, sequencer) but its sounds are inferior compared to nord stage 3's sounds, Nord makes you want to use it more, the synth part has all the knobs in front of you, no sub menus like the korg, everything is right there just tweak the knob and you have the result...

  • @ArthurOBoy

    Chuck this is an amazing Video. Really this Video helps me a lot. Actually, I'm looking for a good workstation who helps to record on a computer, but I'm also studying piano lessons, which means I need a realistic piano sound. And I'm between the Nord 2 and Korg Kronos. In your opinion which one it would be more useful to me. By the way, for recording. Do you recommend use the Reason presets?

    • @ArthurOBoy

      @PianoManChuck  8 лет назад

      +rtrortgortz94 Both the Nord 2 and Korg Kronos have some of the best sounding pianos available! But since you're looking for a workstation, that would be the Korg Kronos (Nord has no workstation capabilites).
      Sorry, not familiar with Reason (I tried it many years ago but not recently).

    • @ArthurOBoy
      @ArthurOBoy 8 лет назад

      Thank you very much, it really helps me a lot! About the Kronos; what did you think about the capability of his use in a live presentation? I mean in a bar, coffeehouses, etc. You should try Reason, this software have a lot of presets, and for the experience of know through your videos, I think you gonna love it, if you learn to used it. What about doing videos about the keyboards of the populars pianist? I mean, Manzarek, Billy Preston, Spike Edney of Queen, Elton John, Richard Wright, Tame Impale. I asked you the same question about Reason, I wish I had not bothered, jaja. Again thank you Chuck. Hope you make more videos. :)

      +rtrortgortz94 Chuck! Help me out here! I was confusing the "workstation word" whit "Midi word". In fact I'm not. strictly looking for a workstation, but it'll not bother me to have one. I just wanna get a good keyboard with a midi to aloud me to record his sound at diferent programs ( reason, cubase, protools) while I'm using and interface. What about the capabilities of the Nord to do this? Please! Help me!

    Hello Chuck - I'm a professional Jazz saxophonist who also plays piano. I'm considering the Kawai MP7, the Roland RD-800 and the Yamaha CP4. Which of those do you like best (and why), and, the obvious price difference aside, where do you place the Casio PX-5S in this group? Thanks.

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  9 лет назад

      Jeffrey Newton That's one of the most common questions I get... what do I like best between a, b & c. To that, I can only answer with this: ruclips.net/video/CVSsmYCgMi4/видео.html

    • @JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton
      @JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton 9 лет назад

      PianoManChuck
      Hey, good answer! :) I've only been able to try the Yamaha CP4 and the Roland RD-800. Nobody stocks the Kawai MP7 or the Casio PX5S. I have tried a Kawai that has the same action and sound as the MP7 (ES7) and the Casio 350. For me, the Kawai has a better action and sound than the subject Yamaha and Roland, but those are excellent as well. I could dig the price and portability features of the Casio PX-5S, though; literally roughly half the weight and cost. The Kronos and Korg are too much $$$ for me.
      How do you rate the Casio PX-5S to the Casio 350? What do you get for your extra $400, except no speakers and more sounds? (again, there is no PX-5S to try...).
      Thanks...

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  9 лет назад

      Jeffrey Newton PX-5S and PX-350 are the same keybed and same piano sound engine, but you can shape the sound more with the 5s. Here's another link: ruclips.net/video/XEjkEg_Yirw/видео.html

    Hey Chuck- Looking for a piano to use as a Piano(midi) controller with USB but one that has action closest to a real piano? Thinking of the Casio PX5S....Any thoughts?

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  10 лет назад

      The PX-5s is a good start.... But, there's no such thing as a single action that's close to a "real piano" because a "real piano" to one person is not that same as it is to another... action on a "real piano" is as varied as personalities... so I'm afraid I have to tell you the exact same answer I tell everyone else... get over to your local retailer and find one that you like.

    Hi Chuck I always appreciate your very helpful videos However I think that the equivalent sound to the Privia PX-5S is the Casio PX 850 and according to my ears the PX 350 is a lesser beast Incidentally, although I like very much the Faziola pianos and haven't heard that on the Nord, my preferred piano of the lot (possibly Faziola aside) is the Casio 5S unless you go software plug-in where to me the standard in general is higher and in my view the Pro Pianoteq 5 is the best probably followed by the full strength Faziola and one or two Steinways We are spoiled for the richness of our choice nowadays without having to fork out for a Steinway concert grand

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  10 лет назад

      Thanks for your comment, grahamcmusic. However, the Privia x50 series (including PX-350 and PX-850) all use the same sound engines. I believe the PX-5s also uses the same sound engine, however on the PX-5s, all sounds are tailorable/tweakable to your own liking, so any particular sound can be made unrecognizable from its x50 counterpart.. Fazioli is one of the finest pianos in the world and Nord has an excellent implementation of the Fazioli!

    • @grahamcmusic
      @grahamcmusic 10 лет назад

      Thanks Chuck I hear such a difference between the 350 and 850 (with earphones) . . .perhaps there is a string resonance or other difference?

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  10 лет назад

      No difference between the two except perhaps the built-in amplifiers (including headphones)... that's probably where you're hearing the difference come from.

  • @geoffk777
    @geoffk777 6 лет назад

    On Korg's latest stage piano, the Grandstage, they have an "Italian Grand", which is probably a Fazioli. Both the Grandstage and the Kronos now have string resonance also. Unfortunately, the "Italian Grand" isn't available on the Kronos as far as I know, although they do have a new "Berlin Grand" (supposedly a Bechstein). The Korg RH3 action is Ok, although I think it's a little light. It's also only double-sensor, not triple sensor.
    The high cost, limited polyphony (30 notes or fewer), limited sample memory and poor action of the Nord rule it out for me. It sounds great--until you start stealing notes.
    I have the same division of duties that you have, but choose some different tools. For a workstation, I use the Kronos also. For a realistic and nice-to-play stage piano, I use the Roland RD-2000. And for a light gigging board, I use the Yamaha MOXF8, which is more versatile than the Casios and just as light and compact.

    • @geoffk777
      @geoffk777 6 лет назад

      Sorry, just an addenda. You *can* get the Italian Grand for the Kronos. KAPro sells it (on the Korg Kronos shop) as the ESx75 expansion pack for $149. So if you really want this sound for your Kronos, you can get it. There are some demos on RUclips.

  • @PianoManChuck
    @PianoManChuck  11 лет назад

    Real pianos have weighted keys that have more resistance in the lower register and lighter in the upper. The CP1 and CP5 have balanced or equal resistance in all keys - I didn't like that at all. The CP50 action is not to my taste, nor is the nearly 50 lbs of weight.

    is Kronos a "piano"?

  • @martinj.a6602
    @martinj.a6602 9 лет назад

    BTW this comparison seems inappropriate ,,, Korg kronos is not a digital piano.. Nord and casio px 5S are stage pianos and only the casio PX 350 is a digital piano. Each one are good in their own categories of electronic musical instruments... !!
