In discussing our country’s history, it's essential to promote love and pride instead of constant criticism. Simplified textbooks play a vital role in helping young people understand their history and develop a sense of national pride. Celebrating figures like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah doesn’t mean we ignore other important leaders; it simply helps create a shared identity that can inspire unity. Every nation, including United States, the United Kingdom, India etc., presents its history in a way that aligns with its values and goals. This is a common practice aimed at building a strong national identity. Scholars like AyeshaJalal and Yasmin Khan have noted that the stories we tell about our past shape our future and community. Instead of seeing this as a flaw, we should view it as a chance to foster pride and belonging among our youth. Ultimately, love for one’s country comes not only from accurate history but also from shared values and aspirations that bring us together.
Aziz argues that Pakistan’s history textbooks are heavily distorted and do not accurately represent historical events. However, critics like Ali Usman Qasmi suggest that Aziz's interpretation may be selective and lacks engagement with recent curricular reforms aimed at inclusivity. Qasmi points out that while textbooks may have flaws, there are efforts to incorporate a more balanced view of history, including the roles of various figures beyond Jinnah . Besides, Aziz emphasizes censorship as a critical barrier to accurate historical education. However, historian Ayesha Jalal contends that while censorship exists, it is not as pervasive as Aziz suggests. Jalal argues that many educators actively seek to present a more nuanced understanding of history despite challenges . This counters Aziz’s assertion that all educational materials are uniformly propagandistic. Also, K.K Aziz claims that historical events, particularly the partition, are oversimplified in textbooks. Scholars like Yasmin Khan argue that while there may be simplifications, these narratives often serve educational purposes for younger audiences. Khan asserts that the complex reality of the partition is difficult to convey in elementary texts, and educators often supplement textbooks with discussions that provide necessary context . In addition to that, K.K Aziz’s critique of the glorification of national figures often overlooks the historical context in which these figures operated. Scholar S. Akbar Zaidi argues that many textbooks aim to inspire national pride, and the elevation of leaders like Jinnah serves as a means to foster unity in a diverse nation. Zaidi suggests that a complete dismissal of this approach fails to recognize the positive impact of national narratives on social cohesion .
It's not just Pakistan. It's all over the world, India,Usa, IsnotReal, England etc. History in schools and to a large extent ,the competitive civil service exams is taught as per the ruling class's narrative.
This book is more of a frustration of a person due to personal reasons against state of Pakistan. If it is agreed upon by majority in politics that a sense of nationalism is essential to keep unity in diversity then what difference does it create whether Pakistan was created on 14th Of August or 15th? However,it can be argued that why a false sense of nationalism is generated amongst masses to maintain unity instead of criticizing why Pakistan instilled such version of history coz it is not only in Pakistan but also in all nation states in international system that states tend to spread such narratives to keep masses united against any external threats.

Absolutely right 👍. Sir no doubt knowledge is power but in our country power is knowledge. The elite class print those material in the books which they want to teach. In our books always tells that India our enemy from this mindset very boys wants to become soldier 🪖 and police 🚓 officer to save the country from enemy. How child know that India is our enemy ? Children's do not use their minds in research new things because they don't read in books technology is the power.

Murder of history a wonderful book. But wait wait. Sach ka yeh safar itna asan bhi nhi. Ishtiaq Ahmad is not credible. In fact, he is not a historian at all; he is a political scientist and a biased writer. He distorts many facts to justify his assumptions. Instead, I would suggest reading Ian Talbot. He is authentic, highly credible, and a well-reputed historian of South Asian history, particularly of the subcontinent.
If history taught in Pakistan is manipulated, then K.K. Aziz can also be wrong. some of events written in his book can also be a manipulation. Just like date of independence and Pakistan resolution and many other things, so that he can get popularity or something. Therefore, we can't trust anyone.
