I don't understand anyone thinking that downhill racers don't have to be fit. The shear amount of energy that you have to absorb in your legs and arms is huge and you have to be able to move your body around with split second moves while under this load. I'm taking tomorrow off to recover from watching your runs. Great video Rich - you still have it.
Loving it! Rich is usch a great presenter/entertainer keeping the vibes up and Charlie was a solid pro, great stuff from the whole crew. 1800 Watts is insane, impressive indeed. My top Watts are basically half of Richs 1200-ish. Good job!
Yea I have to say Rich is very good indeed for the channel. He seems a natural in front of the cam, relaxed but find his content awesome. My fav so far was the EWS return camp, would love to see more content like that from him where he has a multi-part series.
Cracking video Rich and Charlie 🤘 The pros certainly are on a different level of fitness and for Charlie to say on race day you give it a little bit more amazing. Great one with the push up challenge Charlie ,Rich was not expecting that 🤣 Great stuff #GMBM 👊🤘
I just love it when people who don't ride tell me going downhill is easy. Tell that to my core, my shoulders, and my thighs. Also, I didn't hit a tree so there is that
Yeah, that's such an annoying miss conception that people that don't mountain bike have. Downhill is extremely physical. It's not quite rolling downhill in your own time. 😂
From personal experience, the top guys are indeed VERY FIT, to endure a 3-4 minute descent full speed with all the impacts and compressions, it's brutal. I'd also add that a well done bike setup both ergonomically and suspension wise, also helps a lot to be able to endure it. Have a nice day!
Mint that! What a great lad hope he does great this year very stylish rider and super quick! When you consider all the riding you've been doing recently Richard just shows its done ye good if ye can even nearly keep up with a pro downhiller your doing incredibly well There RAPID.
We're stoked you enjoyed this one! Rich did a great job at giving Charlie a run for his money. It really does show how fit and experienced an elite downhill racer has to be!
I must say I love the music in your videos, top class for the video. One thing I'd add is a bit of terrain tackling sound going through the music now and then. Those tires hitting roots, suspension work. Some blend of that would be awesome.
How much road work do the top downhillers do? What would their FTP be? Not an important number for them, I know, as downhill is a different type of fitness.
Out of all the different bike disciplines wonder who are the fittest I’d obviously go Tour de France riders. But out of the others like enduro, XC,cross,DH.
@@Finnspin_unicycles there all so different I suppose probably a silly question each has there power and skill. Loads go past me on trails but I’ll maintain my speed overtake them later 😂
I have an insane amount of output capacity, but my cardio sucks so i give out early. This means that i am very fast for a short period of time. This is mostly because i'm a fat bastard
Mountain biking is fine going downhill fast is not fine for everyone. But mountain biking is beautiful lemme tell you, the scenery and the nature man it looks amazing especially early in the morning.
The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.
Somehow, mountainbikers or hikers in general, look much older :D Would have guessed he was well at his 30s and not 25 years of age :D But at the same time, people out in the mountains usually look so much happier.
You get a few DH racers who defy the expected logic. Prime example is Vali Holl, she doesn't look like she should be fit enough to be a pro racer (she's a little on the thicc side) but clearly is among the best in the world as her rainbow jersey proves.
Actually a constant high HR means he's not as fit! He might be able to produce more anaerobic power but his aerobic fitness is lacking and anything over around 90 seconds is aerobic.
body weight plays a big part in downhill, heavier rider will have a lower heart rate whilst a lighter rider will be peddling more to maintain speeds, the laws of physics determine this,
Actually the laws of physics don't determine that at all. Gravity accelerates riders of all weights equally. Air resistance is dominant in slowing them down and that doesn't depend on mass.
Light is right, and even in the mountain aero makes a difference. An agile rider will keep momentum through corners, but he will also have to fight the bike harder since the bike to rider ratio is higher. I'd say that a midpoint where bike control is easy but riders don't weigh too much is the ideal point overall for racers, as it gives a balance of power and control
My heart rate would be around 200 too but because I'm scared af
Yeah, you're not the only one! 😰

Cheers guys, stoked your liking the content and keep your eyes peeled for loads of cool projects lined up. happy shredding 👊
Thanks for the support! We really appreciate it. Gotta love, Rich! It was sick to catch-up with Charlie.
The riding portions of this edit are sick!
Rich: "it's bloody cold here", Rich riding his bike 10min later: "a great day not to wear gloves"🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 I’ve no argument for that 🤦♂️
I hold well with the cold, but on the bike i need gloves below 10°C or the air against my fists just freezes my hands
We try to tell him! 😂😂
The diference from a GMBN video and "others" MTB pages videos are from wine to water. Your videos are so well done and the music is so perfect. 🤙🤙🤙
Thank you so much! We're stoked to hear you love our content! 👊
Top 10 for Charlie this year, top bloke.

Cheers, Ross! It was so sick to meet up with Charlie! He's an incredible racer. 👍
I just love it when people who don't ride tell me going downhill is easy. Tell that to my core, my shoulders, and my thighs. Also, I didn't hit a tree so there is that
Also, you gotta get up with a downhill bike first, wich is real pain XD.
Riding downhill gnar on a rigid requires top fitness.
Yeah, that's such an annoying miss conception that people that don't mountain bike have. Downhill is extremely physical. It's not quite rolling downhill in your own time. 😂
Super smooth riding from both of you. Total class, well dodged the press ups.
I love your work guys
Thanks for the support! 👊
Great video helps us regular guys know we need to step up our game 💪🏼👏👍
Great video, and good luck Charlie!
Thanks, Neil! Charlie is a beast! 🔥
I'm curious what DH racers do in terms of bench press, deadlift, etc.
That last 70 seconds dudes... you got away with it, nice one!!
The edit is v nice 🙏
Thanks! We've got such a great team behind the camera! 👊

Just remembering to breath while flying down hill is hard enough Lol these humans are Fit af ✊
Super nice video love it 👍🤘
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Charlie was crowned the 2023 UCI Downhill World Champion just a few days ago. Congrats to Charlie and great pick GMBN! 🍾🏆🥇
Great video 😃
Cheers, Anita!
Saying DH riders aren't fit is like saying downhill ski racers aren't fit. Absolute idiocy from folks who have no idea. Great vid, btw! 😎👍
They say the same thing about guys who ride ebikes and they shuttle themselves lol.
@@_Jake.From.Statefarm_ that's because e-bikers are cheaters XD
@@Ferrari255GTO as opposed to a shuttle?... And cheating? How is it cheating? It's not a competition..

i am loving it

What cassette is Hatten o
Easy, just close your eye, hold on and pray you don't die
Pretty much! 😂😂
That no hands tug looks insane. Is that a thing in DH or is Charlie just on another level? 😳
Cliffs go brrrrrrrr
How much road work do the top downhillers do? What would their FTP be? Not an important number for them, I know, as downhill is a different type of fitness.
The best downhill advice I ever heard was always trust a hard fart.
Sure
Uphill might be more energy intensive
But downhill is scary enough to make ur heart beat at 3000bpm
Best riders
I think you have to be fit to compete at pro level in any discipline
Out of all the different bike disciplines wonder who are the fittest I’d obviously go Tour de France riders. But out of the others like enduro, XC,cross,DH.
Depends a lot on your definition of "fitness", that term covers, aerobic capacity, strength, max power output and much more..

Nice bike there
Yeah, the frame looked very plain but very beefy.
For sure! 🔥
Great video as always Rich👍
You could have at least tried to see how many press ups you could do compared to Charlie though😉
Can't do mountain biking. Too scared.

When the presenters are always at Dyfi, why don’t give the a proper downhill bike, at least when they do something with downhillers
Comparing HR is not a useful measure of relative fitness

As I fairly decent mountain biker il be honest and say it isn’t that hard

No, it shows he can go balls out for over 4 minutes and still maintain incredible focus and fine motor control.
