I would like to thank Jo Nakashima for showcasing some of my origami designs. For anybody who may be interested, I have now started my own RUclips channel (Robin Glynn Origami) showing new models I have been working on. Most are a lot simpler than my treasure chest.
@HanEnkhtur it is a little faster I changed the speed when editing because the original is realy slow due to the thick paper (hard to fold). Maybe I should have made a little slower than this
@zem800 I keep some of my old origami, not many. I think this omega star is the same shown in the beginning of my video over a year ago! But usually I don't keep easy origami because I can fold again anytime
Guys this is intermediate origami, not some A4 paper plane... If you don't have experience, start from the basics of types of folds and stuff like valley, mountain, sink, reverse, swivel, crimp, accordion, petal, collapse etc and then try this, the video is very clear in instruction. Try the diagrams from the description for help maybe
how do you manage to design such cool origami models and making them with even more simplicity? what is the secret to your creativity to imagine and create such complex structures! u r truly an artist!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Emux33 i had same problem. i figured out my mistake though. at 6:02 it looks like a fold one way (infront) then the other(behind). but the tag really goes inside the two halves. i hope this helped. mine no longer tore after i changed this fold. see if that's your mistake too.
His diagrams still exist, Search on Google "Devorigami". Click on the first link, There should be a whole list of origami diagrams ranging from simple, to complex models, In the search box, type "Treasure Chest", Click on the link, It should bring you to a PDF format diagram. And there it is.
@HanEnkhtur Yeah the problem was is wasn't folding the curves right, I would end the curve one fold beofre the last line, making the lid not big enough. I did it right the second time I attempted it though.
I have to make the square by cutting from computer paper, but that makes a diagonal fold across the middle, will i still be able to do this? (I did it with all your other origami videos you made )
After completing the chest (somewhat dodgily) my problems specifically are the folds on the lip of the lid, and the folds on the inside of the box that are meant to hold the lid down. Since this is a gift for tomorrow I'll just suck it up.
You work amazingly at this, I however could not follow. I got lost when you started swivel folding. Thanks for trying to help us all. This is so hard to follow though.
I think mine came out pretty well for a first try. I probably should have looked at the curved fold video because that's where my problems look like they came from.
i am using a tissue foil paper of 20 cm x 20 cm i want my whit side to be inside and the golden side to be outside so can you please tell me with what side shall i begin
You were right, it was goddamn hard but I fixed it with a few paper clips. Looks like that all these more complex origami artpieces need heavier and harder paper. Btw cool vid, ty. I made it for my friend's birthday with an origami diamond.
I am up for this challenge. The only thick paper I have is cardstock so I'll see how it works out. Otherwise I'll have to go to the hobby store to see about getting cardboard paper. Wish me luck!
@megantiet101 ermm it clearly states, at the start of the video you need a piece of paper 20cm x 20cm..I'll let you work out the rest. foil paper looks nice, but is not sturdy enough.
Im guessing it's harder than the tarantula (Robert J. Lang). The tarantula video says "WARNING: This model is VERY HARD!" Harder than high intermediate/complex? Or is it High complex?
WOW! thx so much for making this tutorial! I just finnished making an awesome black chest and next I'm going to make another one from gold colored paper! Haha arrr!
Awesome job! No pencils, rulers, scissors, or razors! Best Origami Treasure chest video on RUclips by far! #Bravo EDIT: Its really hard to follow along on regular paper or even card stock. Looks amazing tho!
I know you're probably going to ignore this comment, but could you please elaborate a little on making the sides of the box? I can't seem to fold the sides correctly, and you work too fast for me to keep up on that fold..,
That poor piece of paper.lol just kidding. U are amazing. Everythng u make is soo cool. And u make it soo easy. I never thought to be a craftsy person but u have showed the way dude. This is soo cool. Thanks a trillion times.
Stop being so ungrateful! He had also gone through a lot of trouble remembering the steps for you. I think he did a good job. At least he put subtitles every noe and then
*Watch the new tutorial with better quality!*

wow... haters these days. he is trying his best to show us and all u do is complain. well here is something... YOU DO BETTER.
you betya
I am going to start with this to fall in love with origami again!!!
Wow! That would be quite a workout for your hands. Beautifully executed...I think I'll need a little more experience before I try this one!
@1998andyman
no, other paper like copy paper also works
But I prefer thick paper
@HanEnkhtur
it is a little faster
I changed the speed when editing because the original is realy slow due to the thick paper (hard to fold). Maybe I should have made a little slower than this
Ha!ha!ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@mrsquizy it is an Omega Star
@zem800 I keep some of my old origami, not many. I think this omega star is the same shown in the beginning of my video over a year ago!
But usually I don't keep easy origami because I can fold again anytime
@jonakashima correcting: cardboard :)
@musicmixer112 oh, I'm not sure about the name of this paper in english, I know it in portuguese only... I think you're right
드레곤 집기
@musicmixer112 yes! I have to press it really hard to fold this kind of paper
@TDAfanTerry any square will work
You sir, are THE master of origami!!
@megantiet101 it is square
I haven't tried foil paper, thick paper is better for this model
@Ravanaboy I don't know the grammature
I'm using cardboard

Thanks to you, Jo Nakashima, I'm always prepared for any kind of event. >:3 Great ideas!! & great work. Love it.
how do you manage to design such cool origami models and making them with even more simplicity? what is the secret to your creativity to imagine and create such complex structures! u r truly an artist!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yet some haters say he sucks(not me, of course, I'm not a piece of crap).
@1234EVERYTHING yes, I think so
@cheeseisgood230 yes, you can use any square
Oh, wow!!!! How is this HUMANELY possible?! It's so cool.
:D
jonkashima you should consider making a book on all of your models they are easy to make and they are very creative.
@MaksimA2001 I would like to make this one, but I don't know how to contact the author to get his permission to make the instructions on youtube
I like how there's an Omega Star right next to the Treasure Chest when this tutorial is about making the treasure chest.
Some parts weren't shown well. Do you think you could help show the latch part? I'm having difficulty with doing it well without tearing my paper.
i designed something like this before with a lock, although mine wasnt curved, this is awesome
@Emux33 i had same problem. i figured out my mistake though. at 6:02 it looks like a fold one way (infront) then the other(behind). but the tag really goes inside the two halves. i hope this helped. mine no longer tore after i changed this fold. see if that's your mistake too.

I'm not exactly sure which paper he used but I presume it was home-made tissue foil or some kind of duo paper.
After completing the chest (somewhat dodgily) my problems specifically are the folds on the lip of the lid, and the folds on the inside of the box that are meant to hold the lid down.
Since this is a gift for tomorrow I'll just suck it up.

very cute, very pretty and bery easy to make. Thank you!
What kind of paper did you use, and where did you get it? Thanks :) have a great day.
nice vid, btw do you still have all your really old origami like the throwing star and kawasaki frog and lizard?
Where can you get the brown-and-black thick paper?
Hey jo how do u do it at 7:44
People stop complaining he is doing the best he can if you can't do start with something easier
@trungvuongk2 it wasnt sand paper it was just brownish coloured card xx
How thick does the paper need to be for the model to look good and be sturdy??
Joseph Lucero Thnxs :)
I used the shiny origami paper and it worked fine too :)
I think mine came out pretty well for a first try. I probably should have looked at the curved fold video because that's where my problems look like they came from.
Awesome even though I did not make it yet but the video makes it look easy
8:13 do i need to change the color? or can i just skip this part
I'm not clear in 7:49 how can u make that little triangle?
Will a square peice of paper do and what type of paper is that that ur using
@PowerTowerE then what did you do in 7:40
Thanks!!! I'm going to create a treasure chest for my history project :)
i am using a tissue foil paper of 20 cm x 20 cm i want my whit side to be inside and the golden side to be outside so can you please tell me with what side shall i begin
What kind of paper do you utilize? I want to find the same kind. Thanks
@jonakashima Please Reply Why Does This Happen When I Make The Chest I Try To Lock It But It Always Un Locks Automattically
iz an eny square shape good for this plz reply im doing thiz for our play and we really need a treasure chest
Amazing instructions, What was the gold thing in the box at the beginning? That was pretty cool looking.
You were right, it was goddamn hard but I fixed it with a few paper clips. Looks like that all these more complex origami artpieces need heavier and harder paper. Btw cool vid, ty. I made it for my friend's birthday with an origami diamond.
is there any other diagram for this model,if not can u please do it
I am up for this challenge. The only thick paper I have is cardstock so I'll see how it works out. Otherwise I'll have to go to the hobby store to see about getting cardboard paper. Wish me luck!
there is a remake of this tutorial: ruclips.net/video/ntybnSjCAkQ/видео.html
@megantiet101
ermm it clearly states, at the start of the video you need a piece of paper 20cm x 20cm..I'll let you work out the rest. foil paper looks nice, but is not sturdy enough.
Im guessing it's harder than the tarantula (Robert J. Lang). The tarantula video says "WARNING: This model is VERY HARD!" Harder than high intermediate/complex? Or is it High complex?
i think it's actually card-stock or something. seems thicker.
does thick paper work best?
that´s soo complicted, but, it´s a great idea for a experimented origami-maker, cool
do you mean experienced?? haha
I can't get the part where the point tucks in.
The paper size is on the screen at the start of the video and it is obviously firm brown paper.
WOW! thx so much for making this tutorial! I just finnished making an awesome black chest and next I'm going to make another one from gold colored paper! Haha arrr!
what are you doing with your fingers at 12:21!??? I don't get it!!!!!
He made a remake video today.
Did u use a square or a rectangle?
Awesome job! No pencils, rulers, scissors, or razors! Best Origami Treasure chest video on RUclips by far! #Bravo EDIT: Its really hard to follow along on regular paper or even card stock. Looks amazing tho!
Jo sir,can I use colored copy paper for this?
is that paper thick a little
Where did you get that paper in the vid?
Cool color. I like the omega star, too.
wat's the paper u were using
please please please reply very soon because i want to make it today!!!
the fold along the first line was very confusing! Did you ripped some parts?
What kind of material did you use?
dose it have to be 20*20 or can it be 10 by 10
ummm can u use a 25x25 paper instead of a 20 x 20 ?
does it matter what size paper you use? please reply
Never mind, I figured it out, but thxs to ur curve 2nd video , it was easy thxs
I know you're probably going to ignore this comment, but could you please elaborate a little on making the sides of the box? I can't seem to fold the sides correctly, and you work too fast for me to keep up on that fold..,
Does it work with printing paper too ?
What are the dementions?
what kind of paper are you using in that video
what's the final dimension of the box?
what kind of paper are you using please
That poor piece of paper.lol just kidding. U are amazing. Everythng u make is soo cool. And u make it soo easy. I never thought to be a craftsy person but u have showed the way dude. This is soo cool. Thanks a trillion times.
My lid is always bigger than the actual chest. Any ideas on why this is happening?
i actually did it, not make a ball of paper but what i was meant to make :) it took me an hour but never mind!
How would I know whether it's hard or not??
hey how did you make that other thing...thats like star¿¿ you should make a tutorial about it...
Here's a link to a pdf with the static instructions.
www.origami.cz/Pdf/treasure.pdf
Sniffy sniffy smelled a hate comment in a jiffy
🙏😘
What paper r u using? I tried Normal paper but its too thin!!
Does it have to be 20x20 or equivalent size? nvm im already doing it :DD
Stop being so ungrateful! He had also gone through a lot of trouble remembering the steps for you. I think he did a good job. At least he put subtitles every noe and then
is that paper thick
When he said "unfold" at 14:42 I died a little inside.
Is it okay if I use 21x21 paper or 22x22 paper? :/
How thick is that paper?
nice vids thanks
I wonder why I'm watching this so intensely even though I can't do it xD
Wich kind of paper do you use?
