The lifelessness is perfect for the grim dark of Warhammer. The hymn is a great song because the humans or imperium of man are religious towards the emperor. There are gothic cathedrals turned into spaceships. There are trillions of humans but no humanity left.

Holy Terra is our Earth. The date was below it 0.560.970.m41, which translates to ~9:36 am on July 24th of 40970... and specifically on Earth
M41 means the 41st millennia, or 40,000. 970 is the year in that Millennia, so 40,970. The 560 is more complicated, basically it's a year divided by 1,000 (0 to 999), or 2.739 per day. So 560/2.739... or 204.49 days into the year (so morning of July 24th).
The first digit is approximately how accurate it is to Terra's date, as accuracy in 40k is very subjective because time doesn't flow the same in the 'warp'. Space ships travel in the Warp, Occasionally ships will leave a star system on a 1 year journey but appear at the other end 1,000 years later... or sometimes 50 years before they left. Think of it like this, imagine a universe where even atomically accurate clocks can't figure out the time due to wacky space magic.
So 0 or 1 means it's nearly perfectly accurate and the event happen on Terra (0) or the Solar system (1) think like on Mars, Jupiter or Saturn.
A 2 means it happened outside the solar system but a direct and live psychic link happened. A 3 is the same thing but it's an indirect link, so basically a linking of multiple Psychics between the location and Earth (or psychic A on Earth talked to Psychic B on a different planet, who then told psychic C on an even different planet the time on Earth). 5 is a psychic link, but not to Earth but another trusted world (think the Capital of a sector or subsector of the galaxy)
6-8 are not confirmed via psychic links and just best guesses. 6 means ~1 year off at most. A 7 means ~ 10 years off at most. An 8 means it's probably off by more than 10 years.
When 9 is basically saying it's not Terra's date, just the local date. This is often used when a Warp storm isolates part of the galaxy for a long period.

"The Death of Hope" would be a good (longer) Warhammer fanimation to do next. It's certainly darker and more disturbing than than this one but focuses on Astartes characters with very beautifully designed armor. It's set 10k years before 40k during the Horus Heresy. A galaxy wide Imperial Civil War and a conflict that largely created the grimdark setting we get in 40k.

  • @masterblaster5186
    @masterblaster5186 Год назад +8

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries The Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.
Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants - and worse.
To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

So the parade we are watching is an Ovation for the guy in red armor. He is Lord Inquisitor Torquemada Cortez, he is receiving this ovation for the cleansing of the hive cites on Opridia from the chaos taint (IE cultists) of Nurgle, the chaos god of plagues and rot. Lord Inquistors (or High Inquistors it depends on the ordos) are basically the overseers of their inquisition ordos. Cortez is Ordos Malleus and a renowned daemon hunter, he's also of the 'Puritan' faction. Puritans believe in STRICT adherence to Imperial political and religious doctrine. The construction Yellow space marines are Imperial Fists, they build and man fortifications. The Fists maintain the planetary defenses part of their duty to the Emperor. It looks religious because it is, the Imperium is always at war, just not always in the same places.

All your lore questions answered, in the order you asked them (or implied)
    1) Holy Terra is earth, the heart of the imperium even after being drained of all water, plants, etc
    2) Skulls are everywhere because it's basically their version of the holy cross. The empire is highly religious, and it's emblematic of their god-emperor who at this point is just a corpse
    3) The floating skulls are servo-skulls! Made from actual human skulls, they carry out various tasks like delivering messages, scanning/recording stuff, etc
    4) The music sounding like a religious hymn is because it is. Again, the imperial cult is ubiquitous. It's a bit less that war is part of their culture and more that it's their sacred duty to rid the galaxy of aliens and heretics
    5) The statue is of Rogal Dorn, one of the primarchs (Primarchs being the emperor's hand-crafted generals, basically. Rogal Dorn was the one specialized in fortifications/defense)
    6) The yellow marines are The Imperial Fists, who belonged to Rogal Dorn back when he was alive
    7) The man in red is the Lord Inquisitor himself, Torquemada Coteaz. The inquisition being those who find and remove heretics within the imperium, as well as dealing with the occasional demonic threats outside. That man has killed more demons than you can count with a hammer roughly the same size as him

the establishing shots of the city *really* remind me of Ghost in the Shell, particularly the 2nd movie, Innocence. if you would put the music from it over the scenes, it would basically be the same.
those shots were amazing, but the actions and interactions of the characters felt a bit weird, guess the maker is not that experienced with it yet.
if you want to get more into W40k, i recommend the cutscenes from Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2 and the Horus Heresy Cinematic trailer. they are nothing short of epic and give neat glimpses into two pivotal moments of the universe.

Oh my goodness, you absolutely need to check out some of Bricky's videos where he explains the factions and how they fit into the grimdark universe of the 41st Millennium. I'd LOVE to see reactions to those videos.
Holy Terra is Earth. Our Earth, about 39,000 years from now. The seas have boiled away, and the planet is covered in hive-cities where the citizens of the Imperium toil away endlessly for the survival of humanity in a hostile galaxy. The Emperor's Palace is the most highly defended structure in the entire Imperium, guarded by the stoic and near godlike Adeptus Custodes, just one of which is worth an entire army. The Sons of Dorn, the Imperial Fists Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, also guard Terra, as it was Rogal Dorn himself who designed and constructed the Palace, and defended it from his traitor brothers during the Horus Heresy 10,000 years earlier. The Ecclesiarchy and the Administratum are housed here as well, overseeing the spiritual and material needs of the far flung worlds of humanity.
You are correct in that it is the homeworld of the Space Marines, or at least, where their precursors were created by the Emperor. During his wars of consolidation, the Emperor created the first iteration of the Space Marines, calling them Thunder Warriors, wearing the prototypes of what would become the standard power armour and wielding the first boltguns. It wasn't until he had fully conquered the planet and travelled to Mars to win the allegiance of the Tech-Priests that he was able to outfit them appropriately, and use the technological knowledge there to create the even more powerful Astartes.
Mars is now the home of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the greatest of all the Forge-Worlds, where continent sized manufactories smoke and grind tirelessly to produce the wargear and ammunition that both the Astartes and the Astra Militarum - The Imperial Guard need to maintain order and to defend against the alien, the mutant, and the heretic.
There is so much lore and info in this universe that it's just too much for anyone to lay down in one sitting. It's so fascinating and so huge, and I hope you dive even deeper in.

  • @azez6799
    @azez6799 Год назад +1

The lack of continuation for Lord Inquisitor is so sad. I don't think they would have been able to meet their own standards for what the prologue was, but then again, it's really just an introduction to both the world and the main course of the show. When they got to the actual meat, maybe it would have been easier to produce..
Anyways, for the lore aspect, Holy Terra is earth in 40k. It is the seat of the imperium, it is where the most important decisions across the universe are made. The emperor sits on his throne in the imperial palace (which spans an entire mountain range, iirc). It is ALSO an industrial hellscape described as having frequent acid rains and extreme overpopulation, even for a planet-spanning hive city.
You would be right in assuming just about everything is religious. In the setting, faith is not just present, it's a requirement. The faithless are rarely protected by meta powers, whilst those who devote themselves to worship will often receive boons or aid in their time of need. Many of the faithless are often executed by their peers for their sins. Many of the skulls used in machinery contain real human brains, and iirc, it is often considered a reward to have your brain turned into a servoskull... though like everything in warhammer, it really depends on who you ask and who's writing.
(sorry for lore nerding I love warhammer a lot :( )

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. 40k is about as far from ideal as you can get but that's why we love it, the Imperium is cold and lifeless, but it's not because it's evil its because that's what's required for humanity's survival as it is beset by foes on all sides as it desperately clings to the last vestiges of its former glory, perfectly encapsulated in the God Emperor of Mankind, a half corpse who sits upon a golden throne requiring a thousand souls a day lest he perish forever along with his Imperium.

These are not, in fact, the marines you saw in Astartes. There are over a thousand different Chapters of marines, and the one depicted here, the Imperial Fists, is one of the oldest, and furthermore, formed one of the original Astartes Legions before they were reformed into the smaller chapters.

I do not like this description of lifelessness. There is humanity and we see it permeate this entire video. It is toxic to define life and humanity as something exclusively good. Humanity is the dark as well as the light.
This is not lifelessness, it is life without descrimination. The worst and the best share the spotlight.
The march of the soldiers, the beat and chorus of the soundtrack, the gothic architecture breathes reverence for something greater than any mortal man; it all screams, "Despite the suffering, we persevere, despite the endless war, we march with courage and fearlessness in our veins. We are the heroes of humanity, and despite our flaws, it is worth dying for!"
Sacrifice is the highest virtue in which giving life for something greater is central to society, and it is especially important for the Imperium for its survival.
