I have followed the Orioles ever since the 1964 season. I am a poor loser! It anguishes my soul whenever they lose! 82 was a tough one, but they came back and won it all in 83. Now we have the 2024 team. Lots of talent with the same passions the teams had in 82/83. It’s going to be a dog fight, but something magic is going to happen! Somewhere up in heaven, Earl, Frank, and Brooksie are going to be proud of this wonderful collection of Birds!
I had the good fortune to attend the Friday evening doubleheader the last weekend against the Brewers at 13:50. My college buddies and I drove up from DC and it was a very memorable evening. The crowd was raucous and that stadium shook from the rafters all night long!
I was at the Saturday afternoon game as a 10 year old behind the plate. We tied the Brewers for first that day and I believe except for the opening day win, that was the only day all season the O's held a share of first place. O's came very close to a dynasty from '79-'83. Blowing a 3-1 lead to the pirates in '79, winning 100 games in '80 but finishing 2 games behind the yankees and losing the division on the last day in '82 before finally winning it all in '83.
Even though we lost, that final series was still one of my favorite weekends of baseball as an Os fan. The stadium...you could FEEL the electricity. I remember that last game, it seemed like everyone in attendance brought a broom with them, we really thought we were going to pull it off because it's the kind of thing we had come to expect since '79...but I digress. It still astounds me that from '75-'80 I had season tickets to both the Os and Colt. It was affordable back then. From '81-'89 then again in '91 I had Os season tickets, then it just became too expensive. Plus I haven't warmed to Camden. Sure it's a gorgeous park...but Memorial Stadium felt like home. Anyone who experienced that Oriole Magic era team from '79-'83 I suspect would concur.
Whenever I hear You Can Do Magic by America, I immediately think of the Orioles. I have the 1983 highlights video. Remember buying it from the Orioles. Came in a nice hard case. And hearing Chuck Thompson do the narrative is sublime. What a heartbreaking end to the season but it was one I’ll never forget.
As painful as Game 162 was, just like the 2011 AFC Championship Game did for the Ravens it set the stage for the Orioles to win it all in 1983. And they wouldn't be denied.
Home plate umpire George Maloney wearing a coat and tie. 3:02. MLB umpires should go back to dressing like this for games. Much nicer than the black shirts and pullover jackets with the FTX ads they wear now.

Awesome! You have a great library of vintage baseball. Love these old Orioles videos. Thank you

I still can't make it through Howard's description of the "Goodbye Earl" portion of the day without getting choked up after 41 years

That's my reaction whenever I hear "We Have Magic To Do (Just For You)" - you're not related to the songwriter Mort Shuman, are you?
Goosebumps!

Wow thanks.
Awesome
The orioles nearly made it in 1982 if they had not a Seven game losing streak!
And they won 100 games in 1980 and didn’t make the playoffs. No wild card in those days

This why I hate the brewers!..Don Sutton cheated them to the series
Let’s go birds! O’s Magic 🧡🖤🥹 #wewontstop
