Dark has many artifacts that travel through time with the characters. In season 3 we learned the origin of the silver pendant inscribed with the patron saint of travelers, St. Christopher. The pendant has been the sign of the connection between Jonas and Martha in the Netflix original series. This connection crosses time, alternated worlds, and different versions of the characters. This Dark video follows the St. Christopher medallion’s path through the story chronologically from when it was first introduced into the timeline, until the story comes to an end.
The pendant changes hands many times, but it always holds special meaning for Jonas Kahnwald (Louis Hofmann) and Martha Nielsen (Lisa Vicari). The Martha he fell in love is killed in his world, but he learns there is another world that is entangled with it. The alternate world Martha plays a role similar to Jonas’s and there she falls in love with him, but he’s also killed. In both cases the St. Christopher pendant becomes a memento of their time together.
Dark season 3 introduced the idea of quantum entanglement, and split realities that can exist simultaneously. This means the path of the pendant is very complicated, and that there is more than one at the end of the story. After tracking the path of each of these we found that writers had done something completely remarkable, and fitting for the story. This is one the coolest easter eggs that exists in the show.

This Dark “St. Christopher pendant’s path through time” video covers all 3 seasons of the show, and all 8 episodes of the final season. We explain what happened to Jonas and Martha’s silver pendant, and explain the mysteries that surround this medallion. The origin world is the only one left at the end, and we discuss what that means about characters we knew for the old world.
Dark season 3 is one of the best for this Netflix series. The showrunners gave the series the ending that they had envisioned, and we think that Dark fans will enjoy it.
In the third and final season, DARK reaches its mind-bending conclusion, moving beyond the concept of space and time. One super interesting thing about the St Christopher pendant in relation to Martha and Jonas - St Christopher is known for saving baby Jesus from drowning in the river as he takes him across it, and Martha and Jonas save Marek , Sonja, and baby Charlotte from going off the bridge and drowning in the river!!! so the story of the pendant literally mirrors their storyline! everything is connected!!!

Dark is a subject rather than a series
I couldn't put it better. After S3 (hell even S2) I had a hard time reconciling, and explaining it as 'science fiction' to people (even though it's probably one the most 'true to science' shows out there in terms of it's logic) -- the TONE of the series is very much NOT typical sci-fi. You are correct, it sits in a space of it's own.

Thats kinda cool though. Adam and Eve have a pendant when they disappear, Martha and Jonas have one when they travel to Origin world and even Stranger Jonas is holding it in his fingers when he disappears. Kind of amazing how they made sure everyone has one!

@@PetePeppers1 there are other items that had an interesting timeline as well. Like the suitcase time travel device that tannhaus builds from Claudias blueprints she got from Eve that gets damaged etc.
Btw did you see that the Unknown pigs up a piece of paper from Adam's lair when he burns down the place that look like the drawings explaining the apple device?

@@AlexJones-ue1ll it's the drawings from the Tannhaus box device that Unknown takes. Middle Eva later gives them to Claudia to take to Tannhaus.
One thing to add, I recall Hannah giving an alias at the abortionist and calling herself Katharina and introducing herself to Helene with that name. So Helene then names her child after who she assumed was the nice lady who left the medal for her. Ironic then that Katharina was inadvertently named by someone who is her swore enemy.
WAIT A SECOND! So if Jonas and Martha went to the original universe and destroyed the whole loop and everything, then Hannah never would've travelled to the past and called herself Katharina. So Helene wouldn't have named her daughter Katharina? So in the final scene, should Katharina not be named Katharina???
@@jiemin253 She can still be names katharina, same as hannah's son in the origin world will be named jonas. it's a way of saying that things from the alternate worlds remained even after those worlds were destroyed
@@jiemin253 Thats an interesting fact! I think the things meant to happen will happen eventually.. So there might be some other reasons for Helene to keep her daughter's name as Catherina just as Hannah find Johnas a nice name to keep for her unborn baby!
Jem I strongly believe that most people get this wrong... the other worlds were created from the origin one. That means ofcourse Hanah son is named Jonas id she thinks that´s good name for a son in the origin world. Of course Jonas has that raincoat because his mother in origin world has one. People should stop thinking that Origin world is influenced by the other worlds when actually it is the other way around.
@@michaljanco3240 i think they made it ambiguous but i think you're probably correct. it's a bit confusing because the splinter worlds did influence the origin world by saving tannhaus's family, so it's hard to say that there couldn't have been other influences, tho i think it's unlikely.
The path of Tannhaus's time machine is also pretty crazy.

Is it safe to assume that Tannahus also invented the pocket sized time machine in Eve's world?
@@disguyI would say so, considering he is the technical father of time travel in the season 1 and origin world. Most likely it was the offscreen duty of one of Eve's followers to give the plans or broken machine to Tannhaus to create/fix.
@@isaiahthompson2134 I believe it is even complex than that. The first machine was this huge contraption that actually didnt work for traveling instead split the reality, so now we have two blueprints of the same device and as we saw on first season the origin of the time machine became a paradox. In each cycle the machine was modified by tannhauss himself several times until it becomes the briefcase and ball version.
Isaiah Thompson we saw Eva was the one with the blueprints so she might have given them to “her” Tannhaus as well.
It is so damn crazy when you think about how martha and jonas never share a first kiss together. For Martha it is at the lake, for Jonas it is at the party. From their own perspectives that first time is at different times. It is so ridiculous to think about but absolutely possible in the world of dark.
They should have realized their relationship was impossible, because neither of them made the first move.

In the first season, the kids were also talking about the lady of the lake who was killed and submerged there long ago--and the seemingly innocuous legend and the drowned woman who reaches up to grab the swimmers in the lake is actually their mother, not yet dead and dead already!

I heard somewhere that Game Of Thrones was a subject studied at University somewhere, don't remember where exactly. I would not at all be surprised if the same happened with Dark.
If any show should be studied, i think its Dark. There are so many jewels and life lessons scattered throughout this entire masterpiece of a show.

I kinda disagree because first of all GOT ain't studied coz it's a show but rather because it's a book. And as of DARK... it's a heavily THEORETICAL sci-fi show... theoretical part ofcourse weakening dark's candidacy to be studied as a subject.....and finally.... I don't really see any school or University having such a complicated sci-fi for their LITERATURE classes!

I kinda agree that it is not literature, but I could see it in a Philosophy course or maybe discussed in the physics department. I don't live in the U.S., but in my country it could be very plausible.

Bernd Doppler - To get master key of power plant so that they can go through the files and trigger the apocalypse later. Kills Claudia's Secretary as she saw them.
Blind Tannhaus - Killed him because he will tell the world that there are people who are trying to travel through time. Time travel is required to keep both loop enact.
They originated in Eva's world never existed in Adam's world because in his world he kills pregnant Martha and in Eva's world they kill Adam so she can have the baby. So Eva instructs them to cross over to Adam's world to trigger the apocalypse and continue the cycle so they had to kill any witnesses or people connected to Adam's plan.

The scene where Mikkel goes missing.. Jonas sees his dad covered in black paint or whatever that was. In the alt world also we see Martha like that.. where did they come from?? Or what does it signify??
The black goo is the cesium God Particle that makes time travel possible, “accidentally” created during the nuclear power accident revealed to have been started by The Unknown AKA The Origin AKA creepy time assassins

Great video! Tracking the objects is just one more thing about this series that has me mildly obsessed. While rewatching today, I think I found a very subtle thing about the time traveling gun that actually seems pretty important. At some point in the loop, the gun comes into Alexander's possession (aka Boris), somehow he ended killing someone with it and this is how he ends up in Winden and meeting Regina. My guess is this is the reason why, in the origin world, at the end we see that Regina is not with him since the gun not traveling prevented they from happening. I'm not sure about this though since I haven't tracked the whole path of the gun yet, if it's even possible that is.

Pretty crazy how they planned it out.
Once I finished the series like the day after it got released I wanted to learn to history of St.Christopher so bad I was going through articles and videos. I'm glad the video is out.
I'm really glad you made this video, because it's a very important pillar. I've explained it to several of my friends who've been bewildered by Season 3 (especially regarding Jonas dying, and then still existing). As part of my own guide for Season 3 -- if you're confused (can't blame you, and it's fun) -- Follow the pendant, and follow the archetypes. Not so much the characters playing those archetypes (ie How part of Charlotte's actions mirroring Hannah's -- that took me a while to 'figure out' in context). On my second watch through, I just followed what I believe the archetypes 'represent', and like the Pendant, the logic in the show made a whole lot more sense.
I found it kind of sweet that the old and young versions of Jonas and Marta have the pendant... their vanishing out of reality, into some sort of netherworld, but they all have Saint Christopher guiding them and protecting them, wherever they go. It’s sweet.
Yeah, it's interesting how they use a physical object to illustrate the connection that transcends their own physical reality.

What I find interesting is that the name "Katharina" is a bootstrap in itself. Hannah takes the name in 1953 because it's Katharina's, and Ulrich would agree to meet Katharina more readily, not knowing in what state Ulrich really is. She then tells young Helene that her name is Katharina and leaves her the pendant, which somehow endears her to Helene. Helene later names her own daughter Katharina after the lady who left her the pendant, which she wears diligently, not knowing that her daughter will later influence Hannah to take the name in the first place. So is her name different in the origin world?
No, the origin world came first, so her name was already Katharina Albers before Adam and Eva's worlds were created.

How did Adam knew about Martha's pregnancy? Because Adam didn't knew about the second reality untill Claudia revealed it to him. So how did Adam manages to understand that Martha from other world was carrying the baby from Jonas (himself) and Martha?
Adam didn't know about the Origin world until Claudia told him. But He knew about Eva's world. Cause Alt Martha revealed it to Stranger Jonas.
@@radiatunzidnee1387 yes Adam did know about Eva' s world. But he didn't knew about the dual reality which occured just before the Apocalypse in Adam's world.
Since it was shown that Martha's pregnancy was a result of the sex she had with Jonas in Eva's world(Reality 1). Adam was not aware of this Reality, until Claudia told him. We have also seen older Jonas (reality 2) in 1888 saying he doesn't remember of visiting Eva's world. So considering Adam doesn't know about reality 1, how come he knew about the pregnancy.

This post is the newest so I’ll post it here. While reading a book I came upon a part which hooked me and reminded of Dark. Considering that Dark plot is like a modern Greek tragedy I thought it could be planted there on purpose. Or maybe it’s a coincidence that fits and looks meaningful. Here it is:

Guys, please rewatch Michael's suicide note in the start of the first episode(season 2)(jonas has it in 2053) and then later in episode 6(S2) when jonas shows it to michael on 20th june 2019.

Yeah, you can find one that looks exactly the same online pretty easily.
As a consequence of the paths they take some of them are quite old by the end. I didn't do the math but just think it was 66 years old when Jonas and Martha find it on the beach. Eva and Adam grew old with them.

Loving these videos, it's great to follow the paths in such a complex series. I have a few questions that I would love to see an answer to:
- Is Katharina also named Katharina in the original world? Her mother never encountered Hannah there.
- Who is Regina's father? I saw sites mention Bernd Doppler, but never noticed anything between them in the series, except for the moment where she takes his money and the says 'if you want something, take it'.
- What is Egon's path/role in Eva's world? He goes to Hannah as she miscarriages, but then what?

Hi Pete, great videos there. Season 3, Episode 3 (Adam and Eva) holds a little surprise at minute 24:52. Helge's left scared eye shows us an image of St. Christopherus (his legs and him holding that staff). It's just a blur, but would make sense: Helge being the "Saint" that transported these children over the river of time. The scene in which you see that reflection in his scar also links to the other medallion that is relevant in the story: the "Pfennig" coin Helge is keeping. Hope many readers at least check the scene. The scar-Christopherus is there and it's not there. See for yourselves. Greetings.

Don't know if it's too obvious to mention but all of the intro is made from different scenes in the series put through the keliedascope effect.
Katarina dragging the pendant in the sand as she's killed is one of the scenes you see in the intro.

Yellow coat is the another object. First jonas wear it.second Martha wears it in the alternative world (and she is living in the home which jonas lives in the Adam's World). At the end,Climax, In Regina's house Hannah stares at the yellow coat(Regina's house in origin world is the house of jonas in Adams world and the martha's house in Alternative world. )

Like Claudia telling Adam about Origin World first time in many cycles , Jonas and Martha entering lightspace happened this time only . As future can change past , this is only time they saw each other through closet. As soon as they saved clockmaker's son , both worlds ceased to exist.
