There was just something special about 90s NBA. Transitioning out of Magic and Bird, peak MJ, all of the major market teams were good, culture of the sport became mainstream, first wave of video games. A little bit of all that.

The presentation and production value of NBA on NBC, to this day, is unrivaled by any other major sports television presentation.
I really can't believe that there's been no attempt by any other network to even try and replicate it either for NBA or any other major sport.

I hope NBC gets the contract back in 2025 and doesn’t half-ass it. Though Marv and most other commentators of this era are retired, there’s plenty of talent to put in place. The big problem is the quality of play in the NBA is dog shit now. Rule changes have destroyed the league.

I'm pretty sure that is both Pat and Shaq were playing in the NBA today, they would destroy the league entirely. Also, note how powerful Shaq was compared to Ewing, seems that Ewing looked shorter and leaner compared to Shaq.

Those kids talking about how they are "done" with the era that Shaq and Ewing played don't know what good basketball is. Kids of today unfortunately have grown up in a SOFT era of Tik Tokers and Twitter personalities that happen to shoot 3s for a living.
You had everything in 90s NBA. Battles in the paint, 3 point shots, mid ranges, ball movement, DEFENSE, iso moves, post up moves, DUNKS, fadeaways, clutch shots, etc. 90s NBA was the perfect balance.

One of just 22 regular season games New York lost that season. They were the top seeded team in the Eastern Conference in the playoffs that year, had the series in the ECF against the Bulls won, but couldn't finish it. Pat Riley got the coach of the year award that year.

Ewing was more skilled their entire career. He had post moves and a midrange game. If Shaq couldn’t outmuscle the league he’d be useless.

Such a clutch rookie game by Shaq. Going from playing absolutely terrible against Ewing for most of the game, he holds on, makes the plays that count even against Ewing, and completely dominates once Ewing fouls out. Plus his defense was incredible. Again it just shows how clutch of a player he was, people tend to fixate on his free throw shooting and forget that he was a great player in those high intensity moments.

Players played actual defense and didn't take that many 3 point shots. Without defense and having a team full of perimeter shooters, of course it's a lot easier to score close to 200 points when players only shoot uncontested 3s.

it was a 90s knicks game. Against the Knicks first to 100 usually won, they were brutal on the defensive and brutal (not in a good way) on the offensive end. Their scores (even with the Bulls) would be like 91-85.. They led the league in fg percentage against and points allowed for a few years straight.

Shaq wasn't better than Ewing, Olajuwon or Robinson. In 1992-1997 era, he was not better or super only hero. No. They were more or less equal. When Shaq started to dominate and sat on the lonely throne? When those three got old and badly injured. ..Who was to challenge Shaq?? Alonzo got sick, Dikembe old and weak on his legs, Sabonis old and disabled...who could challenge him in 1999-2003. Nobody. But in 1992-1997 it wasn't that way at all
