    Check out the CEO Linkedin page, he is pretty much a "product designer", which is mainly about designing the visual shape of a product, not the function. He studiet at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (no engineering involved) and his stated skills are Photoshop, Indesigen and Solidworks. All programs to *show* a product, but not *create* one.

      What could possibly go wrong...

    • @mrkiky
      @mrkiky 6 лет назад +20

      Well to be fair Solidworks is used in engineering. Probably not at the University of Applied Arts though. We knew they were industrial designers from the start. If I'm not mistaken they stated that in their first trailer. Too bad "industrial designer" sounds so fancy to most people who don't realize it refers to people who design the shape of a consumer product's outer case.

    • @ambiva
      @ambiva 6 лет назад +4

      A good Industrial Designer do care about function and engineering (ideally working with Aesthetics), look at top university such as Royal College of Art in RCA and ACCD in US. If you don't present a working prototype in graduation you fail. (I graduated in 2008 from RCA and Industrial design department is most critical). Dyson gots load of Industrial design background people.

      @badoli1074 6 лет назад +5

      "working prototype" - Well, i guess he failed right there then...

    • @mrkiky
      @mrkiky 6 лет назад +5

      ambiva
      How can they ask you to present a working prototype as an industrial designer when most of the work into the product goes into the insides(function) and industrial design deals mainly with the outsides(aesthetics and ergonomics)? Do they ask you to do 10x extra work that is beside your specialization? Can't imagine what they would want with a working prototype from a college graduate though.. How impressive can that be? The best thing I can imagine is the insides of an existing product on the market with a 3d printed case. I don't doubt Dyson has industrial designers in their employment, as do all companies that deal with consumer products.

    "Oh wow, I misled people on purpose with full knowledge of my wrong doing and true goals and only now that you have called me out do I understand the error of my ways. Here is all your money back, because yes, I have been saving it quietly under my mattress and not spending it on food, shelter, and travel. Thank you so much for your valuable insight."

    My daughter, with her high school math and science, understood the feasibility of this kind of project. We made the old fashioned plastic wrap in a square shape pulled taut then a few rocks lay on the surface with the sun condensing groundwater into vapor then back into more clean water dripped into a cup. And there are "engineers" and "professors" trying to make wine from water (subtle jab). I think the credibility of some of our institutions of higher learning should be put on notice. What culture is present to inspire support from those wide-ranging list of science publications who supported this idea???

      This is how water was made during the Korean war by some, it only made a few drops, but by God would you appreciate a few drops.
      Kids today are pressured into thinking they are discovering things that were in fact already done before and dropped for a reason.
      Could you imagine creating a VHS player in today's society, or how about the first black and white television.
      In the old days, you would have to build it before selling it, today, ideas of prototypes are the finished products.
      It won't end well.

    All of these kickstarters remind me of a device I "invented" as a kid. I drew a handheld laser cutter that had a starter battery, but had a photocell on the other end to absorb the laser energy, and recycle it forever. Basically a laser perpetual motion machine. It was not any less feasible than other kickstarters I've seen such as this one, maybe I should start a campaign? Making the CG rendering would be a piece of cake, that's all you need to get rich, right?
