  • The head must be removed to replace the glide bearings for horizontal movement on the swinging 3ft arm of this 9" column 1940s Morris radial drill from the Manhattan Project that was producing plutonium at the Hanford WA nuclear site, this high precision machine tool was there. The radial drill, horizontal milling machine and tool & cutter grinder were also from there. This Morris Radial drill press is the same as used on the New Jersey and other battle ships on board machine shops. At the time this machine was made the Morris Machine Tool Company was owned by Pratt & Whitney/ Niles. These drills have ball bearings in a quill type spindle. I rescued this drill from a recovery yard at a heavy towing/recovery that hauled it off from a collapsed building. The machine was left outside for at least 3 years. Using non abrasive rust removal methods the machine emerged in very good condition except for the ball bearings the head glides on.
Also much more coming up on the best toolmaking lathes and my experience using the Monarch 10ee lathe for decades and poke fun at the fake aristocrat machinist that stink up the American internet that like to fib about things and be bullies all while hiding under dynamic names like Milliscum known as Stink Finger, a despicable racist individual that uses others to harass and intimidate anyone he wants, But I will fearlessly continue on RUclips and confront these hiding fake named racist cyber bully haters, and unicycle riding clowns that have never held, or could hold a regular machinist job!
