What a superb film. Great story and casting. I always thought Patrick Wymark was a good actor. He had a most distinctive voice. I remember him from the Power Game with the beautiful Barbara Murray. Quality British film and television industry back in the day. Thank you for sharing.

The good old BBC was the best in the world at radio and tv for a very long time. It also had a very big part in spawning the first true movie industry in the world, in England. It was Charlie Chaplin and Alfred Hitchcock who taught Hollywood how to do it.
I last saw this movie about 58 years ago in a Freddie Francis double bill with his other psycho horror-thriller, "The Skull" with Peter Cushing. Good stuff.
THANK YOU very much for uploading the entire film. Very good print. Had never even heard of this British thriller til it was recommended to me by RUclips. Good script and cast, I must say.
One guesses that this is bound to be an excellent film, when It has Patrick Wymark in a lead role, plus the storyline from Robert Bloch. Films featuring dolls are always sinister, this one being particularly spooky.
Great colors in this movie. Creepy at every turn: bizarre woman with German accent ("meine Lieblings"), scary dolls, weird incel, restaurant with gold reproductions of great naked woman statues, strange murder vehicles, sexy girls in danger.
@@glenncox9128 I can think of many films with a mild similarity, or even a great one, like Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte, with Olivia DeHavilland. And the movie that was a lot like it, with Bette Davis and the other old lady who played her crippled sister. Bette Davis was the ugly old lady who in the movie had been a child star, and was mentally stuck there, so she was crazy, and she tortured her crippled sister. The famous actress who played the crippled sister was always feuding with Davis, and she was the subject of her real life daughter's tell-all book called Mommy Dearest. She was in Rain, and in Freaks, and Queen Bee, among MANY others. Her name, and the name of the movie with Davis are both super well known, but I'm very forgetful of names.
loved this! and if I may suggested this idea: Peter Falk must have watched this a few times. Even the line: One more thing... can be found herein. The trench coat! which can be traced to Tati and Pink Panther but i believe the inspector Holloway left his mark on Columbo! I am probably wrong...
Millions of men wore trench coats, including many detectives. Imho, I don't see any connection between this and the Columbo character, but that's just my opinion.
Do not remove your comment. Your impression is valid whether anyone else thinks so or not. The rudeness of being told your impression is wrong should not deter you from speaking out. My 3 very stupid sisters think I'm not any more valid than my opinions. My brain runs circles around theirs. I think outside the box and they"re still thinking like they've been told to think. Which means they do not think at all. But baby sister surely doesn't havecanything worth saying. Then a week later a sister comes to me with this groundbreaking new theory--- and simply repeats what I had said the week before, word for word. So they do listen. Their friends are impressed by their insight. My insight. I'm 67. They are 76, 77 and 80. One has a Master's degree. She did not know what a Sherpa is. (I'm still stunned at that 3 decades later.) I graduated high school. My four year old comes out with words like dissipating. She tried to twist it to say he didn't use it properly. Hey, the kid was playing the floor is magma under the kitchen table and he'd just fallen in. He was, indeed, dissipating into steam in the molten rock. Eventually that sister accused him of things he did not do, could not do, nor would have ever done. It exacerbated the illness that was slowly killing him. He'd be 44 now. He let pneumonia take him He saw no reason to continue the torture of betrayal from cousins (who know he didn't do what he was accused of) that grew up as brothers to him. This is the sister who follows the teachings of the Dalai Lama. I wish I grew up with brothers.
I've been trying to identify this one for decades (the dumb title didn't help)! Not my usual fare (though the premise is more intelligent than the usual "slasher gotta slash" drivel), but the payoff is exceptionally memorable. Another mystery solved - and I'd never have figured it was Amicus.

Fantastic lurid colour ! It's definitely a british take on mid 60s Italian giallo movies....reminded me of Blood and Black Lace
Best of British. Superb script. Superb acting. Great cinematography so evocative of the period.
