  • ‘Dead Men Don’t Rape’ is a song I wrote about women's rights after the overturning of Roe Vs Wade in the USA. I put so much of my rage into this song, channeling the helplessness and anger most of us are feeling watching the world get harder for women, trans, non binary and LGBTQ+ people. There’s so much left to fight for all over the world. With rise in rape cases and lowest ever recorded convictions, rise if femicide (mass killings of women particularly black, POC and Indigenous women) and worldwide bans on safe abortions regardless of the situation. We must raise our voices and scream for those that cannot. I hope you’ll scream along with me to this song and know In all this madness around us, we have each other through it all. People that are genuinely offended by this song have completely missed the message behind it. As a woman who lives in the U.S., we are so angry. My country’s propaganda shoves down our throats that we are defenders of freedom, but in the last 20 years we have lost so many rights. The US is not free. It never was.

The fact you're able to comment this message to whoever on the planet it may cross paths with is proof that the United States has been and still is a relatively free country. You see rights you cherish being treaded on, or taken away? You can fight for it, and that's because it's the United States Of America LOL. This country has always been free, and still is , has it been completely free? No it hasn't, and it will always be that way as it honestly should be because society would destroy itself with absolute freedom. I don't agree with criminalizing abortion, but I also cannot stand ignorance.

"how can I smile? Put on a face? When all my sisters are dying?" I feel that way too much. Not only that, but also the kids being born into poverty and unstable families, considering that 70% of people who get abortions are poor and can't even financially stabilize themselves, much less a baby. Sex education isn't prioritized, just education in general isn't, so these teenagers are out not knowing what they're doing or what they're getting themselves into. And half of people who get abortions used protection.

You're a survivor, NEVER a victim! I gave birth to my rapist's baby bc I couldn't physically get to the clinic to terminate (I was bedridden during the pregnancy and unable to even crawl to my bathroom.) I would've offed myself but I didn't have anything near the bed to do it with... He'd yell into my bedroom window every day and tell me I should kill myself bc I was a "waste of flesh." My son was born 5 weeks early bc I was almost dead from dehydration... I couldn't hold him for days. I felt like a horrible person bc I felt absolutely nothing for my son; to me, he was a horrible reminder of my SA. I finally started bonding with him when he was almost a year old but that was after seeing a therapist twice a week and dealing with the trauma I'd experienced from my SA. Thankfully, my parents had us stay with them after his birth so he was taken care of while I was battling my trauma and engaging in serious therapy... It breaks my heart that our govt is trying to force other women to go through what I know is a soul-crushing experience. Every single day of my pregnancy brought a vivid flashback of my assault with it and every time the baby kicked, I was immediately caught up in a vivid recollection of his conception... It was the most difficult thing I've ever experienced. I was fortunate to have my parents there to support my son while I worked to strengthen myself mentally; I honestly don't think my son or I would still be here if it wasn't for that support system and that thought chills me to the bone. How many women and children must die before the govt realizes that they shouldn't dictate what we can do with OUR bodies?!?

Every time I hear on the news about a woman disappearing or being raped and hidden in bushes somewhere, so often it's a woman who just wanted to enjoy a walk along a canal towpath in broad daylight, or take a stroll through woodlands, or take a shortcut home through a park. Women have a right to enjoy nature just as men do, without some stranger molesting and killing them. I remember from years ago Suzy Lamplugh, an estate agent who was killed while showing a man around an empty house - she was just doing her job. Your song gives all of those silent victims a voice.

    tw: sa, incest
two days after i turned fifteen years old, my eighteen year old cousin physically overpowered and assaulted me. i told my grandmother first (this was at a family reunion), and she told me to ignore it and to just keep away from him for the evening. i then told my mom, and she didn’t believe me. i tried to press charges, but my family forced me to keep quiet. a few months later i discovered i was pregnant, and without a word to my family, i took a handful of different pills in hopes to avoid having to deal with it in any other way. it worked, i watched it go down the drain.
i cannot even begin to explain how traumatic that experience was for me, i’m still recovering mentally from it. after that i was practically forced into women’s activism, and as a trans nonbinary person i was more than ready to join the fight. but its one i didn’t deserve that kind of upbringing, and only a few close friends know the truth about that summer. this song is dope btw, i hope we can get to a point in the world where no other people, especially children, have to go through what i did.

Idk if you caught it or not. But there's a line written specifically to people just like you. In fact it's repeated a few times. So it's obviously a key point she's trying to make, the line is:
"you get so offended when I say dead men don't rape, but where is your anger when I say women are dying?"
Now, that line alone, would not work well if the song and chorus were changed to "dead rapists don't rape" (which by the way, doesn't flow off the tongue very well, and kinda sucks as a chant).
Besides, why should we continue to have your kind of mindset, where we're working so hard not to offend the "good guys", while simultaneously begging for their help dealing with the bad ones? Obviously it hasn't worked thus far. So fuck that nonsense, time to try something new. Maybe if we lump ALL men in together, the "good guys" will get angry enough about being lumped in together with the bad, that they actually do something to help out.
