Some slower burning powders don't get a full burn until they get to near max pressure for some reason, or sometimes just a shorter barrel will have less time for the powder to burn. You get the extra muzzle flash because of the unburnt powder finally igniting once it leaves the barrel. Some people recommend a magnum primer. Some suggest a new powder. I didn't have very good luck with CFE Pistol, personally. I know lots of people that do enjoy it, however.
CFE pistol is good shit. 5.2gr ANYTHING 115gr gives me 1 inch group or less at 10 yards. Not using a rest either. 1100 FPS, low SD. This is the same result out of 4 diff 9mm guns with varying barrel lengths. I’ve also set everything to OAL of 1.100. Doesn’t matter if it’s RN, FP, HP. It’s well within standard load data from diff bullet manufacturers. People worry so much about seating depth. And + or - .1gr. Don’t. 5.2gr is a safe load and set everything to 1.100 OAL and go have fun.
Thanks for the feedback. I definitely encourage everyone to sort out their load data for themselves. That being said, I definitely have seen better results with heavier bullets recently. I think the CFE Pistol requires higher pressures to get the really good performance it's known for. There will be more range reports soon.
Interesting! Im playing around with 9mm, 100gr, win 244 4.1 load, and seating depths. 1.07, 1.10, and 1.14. Working on the crimping. Toughts are to final crimp, useing the depriming/resizing die (backed off and pin removed) to get a tapered bullet. The tapered cartridge with a bulge at the end. I think would be cleaner. Wi out buying Lees die.
That is an interesting idea. I wonder if there will be enough room to clear the projectile while still applying the needed pressure to undo the bell. Please let us know if you're successful and which die you do it with.
So far, I've tried five different projectiles from xtreme and they've been great. The only way to get better performance for my dollar is casting and powder coating for myself. I'm still looking for that perfect use for my CFE Pistol powder. I know it won't go to waste.
Just loaded up some 147 xtp's with CFE pistol powder in my 9mm. Worked excellent. Avg velocity of 970 fps and excellent accuracy.
That's a great result. Thanks for sharing knowledge.

Had the same issue before and I put less crimp and it works perfectly
Was that with a lightweight projectile?

Thanks for the information. I just got a chronograph, so I should be able to eliminate some guesswork.

I will let you know what happens. Lol!
who uses vihtavuori n350 slow handgun powder ? 9mm reloading .
If you're looking for general advice, you might want to check with the guys on one of the forums. I've never used it.
gittin er figured out, good vid my friend
I appreciate the good advice I'm getting from all of you.
I loaded 357 mag with xtreme 158 FP and 7.6 grns of CFE. Could not believe how accurate they are. Data came from xtreme . GP 100 loves it.

First to comment yay! Nice video even if it is on a phone , I use a tablet for mine so I can't complain!
Thanks for the encouragement. I think I need to start setting up the phone to get a steady shot, at least.
Good testing 👍🏻🇺🇸
I enjoy the process. I should've started this years ago.
Test, test, test. Fun, fun, fun.
That just about sums it up.
video quality is fine for a range review.
Thanks. I agree with you for my short videos, for sure.
good shootin
Thanks, man.
